It took me 3 attempts to finish this movie. I’ve sat through less agonizing chemo treatment (please laugh at this joke, its a coping mechanism). Not a scene went by where I didn’t say “shut the fuck up” to myself. Genuinely just in awe at how atrocious every bit of filmmaking was with this project. His name is Harry Hole… no comment, just funny.

Harry Hole is THE NAME of 2017. Harry Hole telling his ex-son that he has a surprise for him and then the film SMASH CUTTING to a man gutturally screaming into a microphone on a stage in what appears to be the middle of a large hockey arena was probably THE SCENE of 2017, and I had to leave the theatre for a minute because I felt like I was going to throw up from trying to hold in my laughter and tears. Also, arriving into an apartment and then dry-humping Michael Fassbender on the floor while listening to Sigur Rós for about thirty seconds is THE MOOD of 2017. The Snowman is THE FILM of 2017. Do not miss it.

Borderline indecipherable. Like I don’t even know why the killer is so into snowmans. You should see this just so I don’t feel alone.

we got about 43 minutes in before I got this urge to listen to s&m by rihanna because I saw a chain in the movie (and chains and whips excite me, na na na na come on) so we opened YouTube in another window and listened to it and then we clicked on a sadder rihanna song (unfaithful) and then we went on more sad songs and somehow we ended up watching a chicken play the keyboard on america’s got talent and we never continued this film and i’m now going to bed without the intention to ever do so and I think that’s for the best

Looks and sounds like it was the first AI-generated feature, but it’s 10yrs old so that can’t be. Truly baffling how they got this many incredible actors to be a part of this mistake (and Chloë Sevigny in two roles no less!!)

Hiring a detective named Harry Hole….. Mike Meyers almost beat you too it … I went into The Snowman expecting a solid Nordic thriller with Michael Fassbender at the helm. What I got instead was one of the most baffling editing jobs I’ve seen in a mainstream release. From the opening minutes, the film feels like someone took a much longer, more coherent movie and hacked it down with an IKEA pocket knife …. Scenes just cut away before they…

Genuinely absurd this was released. Such a mess it entered lynchian dream sequence territory but it was playing it straight. The editing, pacing, subplots, horrible dubbed Val Kilmer….tragic release of a film for all involved cause it could have been good.

Eh… I haven’t read the book it’s based on but I’m sure it’s better than this. I also guessed who the killer was halfway through. Some parts are incoherent. This was unfortunately a snoozefest, but kudos to the scenery and atmosphere

I remember seeing a trailer for this in theaters and laughing at how bad it looked, only to forget about it for years and start to wonder what all the horrendous reviews were about after hearing that the source material is quite a fun read. I really wanted to like The Snowman, as I’m quite a fan of Michael Fassbender (especially in these troubled loner roles), and the premise of a serial killer striking every snowfall is just fun when…

Hilarious movie. I’ve never seen any film where it seems like the director and crew were under a strict contract saying they could only shoot a quarter of it.

Absolutely horrible. Got EVERYTHING wrong. That was the most dull, agonising, painful watch of my life. The book isn’t much better tbh, but at least it made a little bit of sense?!? But why, whyyyyy, out of 9 existing books in the series, you would pick to film SEVENTH??!??!?. Wouldn’t rewatch it to save a loved one even

Incomprehensible. Baffling. Nothing redeemable at all about this movie. Insane how allergic this very Norwegian movie is to casting Norwegians instead of Americans, Brits, or Americans pretending to be Brits.

I did it. I don’t regret it but it’s one of the worst put together movies I’ve ever watched. Seems like such a waste of potential. The Val Kilmer dubbing is terrible. You can tell some things just needed to be filled in. I don’t even like saying this because I don’t have enough movie making knowledge but you can get just from the first 10 minutes that this movie is gonna be terrible because of the editing that’s being done. What a stinker. How do you forget to shoot huge parts of your own movie?

You tell me there are Charlotte and Rex in it and I never know this one??? That’s my loss. However, the plot is far too cliche and scary for me. The only reason I manged to sit through it was because it featured the women I love Btw I’ve never seen Rex in this style before, she looks absolutely adorable

Having enjoyed a Nesbo book, I found this cinematic adaptation of one of his bestsellers simply excellent. A captivating atmosphere throughout the whole movie, an escalating plot, great cast and the beautiful Scandinavian scenery as the canvas. Imo this is how every crime movie should be made.

Stupid and a waste of time. Nothing egregious like some of the reviews would have you believe and actually a couple really beautiful shots but this was like a bad episode of an already shitty TV show. Not ideal Val Kilmer

the snowman had a good idea and a creepy atmosphere but the execution was a complete disappointment the movie feels so slow and empty like it’s trying too hard to be mysterious without giving u a reason to care the investigation never becomes as exciting as it should be and the characters feel distant the whole time a thriller that had potential but ended up being a boring and forgettable experience unf

What kind of fake foggy filter was put over this? And why does everyone in Scandinavia look morose and worse-for-wear? The actors are average, but the all the rest is just no context, fast-paced lunacy that was supposed to be interesting. Harry Hole deserves better.

Harry Hole strikes again, what a name
-

“Can I keep this?” “No.” “Can I keep this?” “… sure” No idea why they kept going on with filming this incredibly boring Nordic thriller that has ZERO Nordic actors and everybody has Norwegian names but speak with an English accent, most of the times. Some characters are introduced and then forgotten, the plot itself barely goes by and is as uninteresting as a poorly made snowman, the special effects on the seagulls and the killings are terrible, the editing makes the story and character development worse by the minute.

Click here for full review Hello, Mister Police. The long-running series of Nordic Crime Mysteries starring the fictional troubled police detective Harry Hole finally made it to the big screen in 2017. It was given the best foot forward with a who’s who of A-list talent in front and behind the camera. Michael Fassbender as Hole, Rebecca Ferguson, Chloë Sevigny, James D’Arcy, JK Simmons, Charlotte Gainsborough, and Val Kilmer. Directed by Thomas Alfredson. Produced by Martin Scorsese. It should have…

I’m embarrassed to have made my gf watch this with me, it’s so bad we had to do it in two parts because we didn’t want to sit through it all at once. And I’m pissed because the potential was genuinely there.

Every piece was there for a solid thriller, but somehow none of it came together. It feels oddly unfinished, and the mystery lost me long before it was over.

When a genre becomes ‘in vogue’ it’s inevitable that the market will be saturated with copycats. The ‘Scandi-noir’ is now established, both on television and film, as is the recent upswing in serial killer thrillers based on bestselling novels. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train’s box office success and critical praise are to blame for The Snowman, the most recent example, based on Jo Nesbo’s novel which is ten years old now.…
