Kind of can’t stress enough how fucking funny this movie is, as close as I’ve seen to ‘what if Succession was a slasher’ with great kills, booby traps, and atmosphere. All time final girl too. “You never want to do anything interesting anymore.” “I don’t think that’s a fair criticism.” “Fuck me next to your dead mom then.”

This movie was genuinely crazy. I thought it was gonna be some cheap horror movie, but it was actually so much better than I expected. I liked the story even though it made, like, no sense… But the plot twist was genuinely nuts: Felix and Crispian hired killers to murder their own family so they could inherit their parents’ money. Like, can’t you just ask your parents for money?? There were just so many characters introduced at once. Like, I…

For a starting place for horror movies you could do worse this film is a fantastic slasher movie with a family that are all full of themselves and are terrible to each other with one exception of Kelly the new member of the family meeting them all for the first time who kicks ass in the metaphorical and literary sense as she plans and attacks the killers that come after them to protect herself and the family who are inept…

Did I miss something? I guess this is supposed to be a dark comedy and somewhat of a send-up of the home invasion subgenre, but I found this to play itself too straight to be very funny. It’s also too generic to differentiate itself from the movies it’s trying to be self-aware about. I guess I had a little bit of fun with this though.

Finally, a horror movie where we won’t be screaming at the main character to do the most obvious things. Every now and again, I just put this movie on and have a good time. Erin’s competence and the movie’s short run time with its tight pacing makes the movie easy to appreciate and fun to watch whether it’s the first or second time onwards. The effects for the movie’s violence mesh well with the action sequences in the movie to…

Simon Berrett certainly has a great formula down in this and The Guest. The structure of a early 1st act intrigue, 2nd act twist, then morphing into deep genre territory, and multiple set pieces leading up to a punchy end. It works to great effect in both: The Guest going: Drama->Thrilller->B-movie Horror. You’re Next going: Horror->Thriller->B-movie Horror mixed with Home Alone. It risks becoming unbearable early in the greusome and frequent violence, and somewhat lackluster performances in the 1st act.…

Method: Blu-Ray Watch Party: None Genre: Horror Sub-genre(s): Home Invasion, Survival Language(s): English Dysfunctional family reunion interrupted by masked killers. Soundtrack is great. Sharni Vinson gives one of the best performances in a horror film. Barbara Crampton is amazing. The rest of the cast is perfect. The story sets up wonderfully. When I originally saw this upon its theatrical release, I didn’t have high hopes and fell in love with it. Over the years, it has continued to be one of my favorites.

Biggest pussy of an antagonist ever You’re Next… personally? It elevates the horror genre to a fair degree, not a lot but it’s good. I think it changes a few formulaic tactics in horror. for example, those being the fact that our female protagonist is actually really really capable, she’s not the one screaming or panicking(I mean she panics but it’s controlled yk) all the damn time, and it’s really a breath of fresh air. However that may be the…

I hadn’t seen this one since it came out. Rewatch with Onslaught (2026) a sort of spiritual successor to this and The Guest (2014). So this being the first if a loose trilogy it barely connects to the other films (a company is named that is in the other two films I believe). Anyways I found this movie funny before, but I didn’t quite get that vibe this time. Still not quite a horror movie, but more of a thriller…

This is like watching lemmings die. Tasteful combination of cheap jump scares, overly irrational dumbness of characters, goofy gore and unprompted sex-drives/nudity to tickle your inner caveman, as well as a motive you could smell MILES ahead. For example, most of the jump scares consisted of “Huh, there was something. Now let me interrupt you with a LOUD FUCKING NOISE”. One of those scenes literally was the voice of the father being ultra loud for no apparent reason, before returning…

This movie’s fun. It’s like if the screenwriter was really sick of audiences complaining about “dumb decisions” in horror movies, and just created the most overly qualified character and threw her into a home invasion slasher. I like the villains a lot. They’re the perfect blend of actually menacing, and just being a bunch of dudes. They’re clumsy, they get emotional, and they make constant mistakes. I was getting a lot of flashbacks to Ghostface in Scream falling over himself…

🥹Finally watched my first Kill Count. The only reason it misses out on the four stars for me is that I find the dialogue stilted, and the acting subpar before the attack, afterwards I think the main actress shines as Erin, and she walked so that Grace in Ready or Not could run. It fulfils many moments of catharsis if you’re a fan of horror, most especially in her absolute brutalisation of many a masked killer. The kills are great; I enjoy the razor wire outside the door so much, along with the blender through the skull.

(Technikai okok miatt pc n kellett néznem, monitoron.)

Did not feel very promising until it got it’s big twist out of the way and then that seemed to free the movie to have more fun and get creative with the violence. It’s basically a black comedy by the end and that’s much, much better than the mediocre slasher it feels like at first.

they should do this in the next Meet the Fockers movie, I wanna see Ariana set up traps to take out Ben Stiller and then shoot De Niro with a nailgun pluto

I saw this in the cinema and wasn’t mad on it. My then girlfriend was into horror with gore kills. I was not. 13 years later and after watching so many more horror with gore kills with my now wife… I like them alot more and really enjoyed this the second time around. It’s good fun

Not an easy movie to sit with, which is basically the point. What starts as revenge slowly turns into something much more corrosive. You’re Next is messy in places, still hits hard.
