A lot of great cringe comedies can create an uncomfortable situation that is simultaneously funny. This can’t quite capture the funny, so it’s just uncomfortable. For nearly two hours

two things I liked about this bad bad film: 1. They played a Frank Ocean song 2. When the boss’s computer had “they don’t pay taxes in Wakanda, why should you” casually on it

i could’ve done without eddie murphy just being a kenya barris self insert only talking about how much he hates bi-racial people also the ending where jonah hill gets struck by lightning?? ya’ll are you getting this?

Everything about this feels so dated. Cringe. Made for people who say “yasss queen” to Kamala Harris even after she told illegal immigrants not to come to the US. LOL at referring to Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles in Hollywood as part of the hood. FOH.

The most redeeming quality of this film is that it’s already locked up the Oscar for Best Editing by nearly making Jonah Hill look good at basketball. An extremely cringeworthy shot at a topical, edgy comedy that forgets it has to actually be funny instead of solely sanctimonious, You People features Jonah Hill going against type and trying to play the “grounded”, woke, morally upstanding protagonist in what might be his official peak of self-obsession, which is already a high bar. Remember when he used to just draw giant dicks or when he said he’d release his mentally challenged incest children into the wild? Man, those were the days. The funny part is that Hill already made a better version…

This movie is actually so good. The tension between the two families is CRAZY! I truly think they captured both perspectives of White people and Black people. Both of them were prejudice to each other and made the other feel uncomfortable. I think this movie really shows the complications when having an interracial relationship and how we can overcome our struggles. This is a spicy White guy that’s Jewish and that holocaust vs slavery debate was WILD!!!

Hm, it was just boring in my opinion. Didnt laugh very much. And didnt had fun with this

This movie is not believable in anyway shape possible. I don’t get why the couple became a couple, I don’t see the connection because they panned over it so quick. The parents are so goofy trying to be the most stereotypical racist people they can with no filter on either side. Plus the wedding in the end like huhhhhhh. I watched it over eating dinner, it’s not bad but not good either. Give it a watch if you have nothing else to watch that day. Sometimes mediocre movies deserve a watch to know there are great movies out there.

This shit felt so forced and dated. The ironic thing is that it felt like it’s the type of film that would be written by Jonah Hill’s character in this film. And I mean that in the worst possible way. Yes, you can make the case that while they’re a little confused, they mean well. For the actual audience of a film like this… I mean it’s distilled in the right way for them – like baby food. But meaning…

Two really good actors, but the film itself is painfully annoying. It tries to build its comedy around the clash between two different communities, but it just doesn’t work. The result is incredibly frustrating and, for me, simply terrible.

It’s just trashy. Like the plot is whatever, really conventional: they hit it off, parents are terrible, they break up then last sec back together. Besides that it’s not really funny and not a fan of how they presented Jews or the NOI

“ I’m literally Take Care Drake” -Jonah Hill🐐🤎 Nah, but ending the movie with Kanye and Jay Z N****s in Paris is wild. I really liked Eddie Murphy in this movie, and the songs omg Frank Ocean, Drake… I was satisfied.

3/10 – “My Maserati sounds like it got gangbanged by the Toronto raptors”, arguably the only part of the movie that made me laugh. Way too political and it’s a comedy without actually being funny.

i watched this when it originally came out and rewatching it today i’m still cringing the same. they’re making interracial couples seem so fucking weird and racist??

2nd time watching, still need to finish off 40 mins out of 130 odd. After years of watching end of history and netflix own brand films alla Michael & Us podcast, I too have rewired my brain to enjoy the cringe. Yet this film, this is something else. An incredibly rich text on multiple levels. First off, it was obviously very expensive – funny considering how shit it is. Second, it was co-written by Jonah Hill. Seen through this lens the…

This movie did a good job of making me uncomfortable throughout its entirety. I watched this to see what kind of range hill had and i think he was just not really all that into this movie while acting in it. Very predictable and tropey but the cute moments were very cute and the funny moments were super funny

Romantic comedy that revolved around racial dynamics in America. The romantic comedy plot was very formulaic and the actors didn’t have the best chemistry. The jokes and observations could be clever and funny at times but usually only hit the most superficial levels possible. I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone, there are tons of romantic comedies and racially themed movies that do a better job at what this movie was trying to accomplish.

This movies is beyond retarded but the most retarded part was when Jonah thought he could steal Adam Sandlers flow and pretend to slam dunk every shot (as well as pull a random attractive female)

On everything this movie is hot garbage It’s almost like watching a movie made by aliens who have no idea what earth is and the only way they can access information is through Joe Rogans podcast The ending didn’t change my mind. I think there will always be a divide between black and white people. Maybe I’m ignorant but I’m not dumb And btw the holocaust is not comparable to slavery
-
C
Just a hard watch and cringy as can be. Only thing carrying this film to over 2 stars is Eddie Murphy and the music

This might be my favorite of Kenya Barris’s work!! It was funny, made me cry, made me cringe deeply, and highlighted the struggles of an interracial relationship in a meaningful and not corny way. Lauren and jonah had insane chemistry too. I also loved that they included a Nipsey Hussle song 🥹

Funniest part about this movie was Jonah hill playing a 35 year old.

Was not a very good movie at all. But lowkey funny at times. Rip the kufi

Was not expecting Barney Miller to appear in a movie in the Year of Our Lord 2023. A little something for the old heads. Still weird to see Eddie so toned down in these comedies. Anyway, not a great movie in general.

Funny movie, a bit of a drag towards the end. Likely to age poorly in terms of jokes

i’m thinking we go hit up paris for the honey moon. yk it’s provocative. it gets the people going. tons of notes, none of which i care to share. BUT, as a black girl i feel empowered to tell u Amira would not date this man in real life. which sounds in direct contradiction to the point of this movie. but, that’s the way the cookie crumbles. in the movie however, i am all for it!! But like my number…

it was alright tbh, it made me laugh here and there and the sets were pretty. it showed the struggles (external and internal) interracial couples face but the whole thing, especially the ending, was just “superficial” cause like that’s not how it really works in the real world but i’d give the casting of beautiful black women 10/10 cause wdym you got yung maimi and lauren london?

Director: Hey, I wanna cast Jonah Hill and Eddie Murphy in a movie. Producer: Cool, where’s the script? Director: Oh yeah… give me 5 minutes.

There’s a lot of hate towards this movie. I actually kind of like it. It’s very different but I’m also a big Jonah hill fan. Not your average romance but there’s a lot of good scenes worth watching.
