Kind of disappointing, considering it was just scratching the surface. I’ve been watching the series for three weeks and finished it last night, and in those three weeks I’ve looked at the popular trivias about the series, and this documentary is mostly just that. Even the information about David Chase’s life doesn’t go beyond these trivias. The first part focuses specifically on the first season and gives the most obvious insights. The part two is more interesting and emotionally deeper. The way that they honoring Jim Gandolfoni was great. Also, was pretty cool the praises and still non-explanation about the BEST ENDING than any other series. Honoring the series on its 25th anniversary is a great idea, but I would have liked to see some unrevealed facts, footages, and insights. It’s brilliantly edited, tho, and I wanted to rewatch the series right away, but I’m gonna hold myself back for a few years. Timeless and revolutionary piece of art.

This is pretty good, but it also feels like it only scratches the surface.

Men will literally create a show about going to therapy and turn it into the greatest television series of all time instead of going to actual therapy.

Five minutes in and I thought the editor of this might need to take a long swim with Big Pussy… But once it settles down, man, it’s just great to be in this world again. I don’t think Gibney particularly brings anything special to this documentary, but the subject is all that matters – the greatest TV show of all time, by a long, long way. Don’t stop……

Typically when I watch a documentary of an entertainer it annoys me to no end when the film spends more than half the running time on their personal life’s. Show me behind the scenes. Show me interviews. Show me how the show or movie came to be. But, in this case, the personal stuff works because it’s so much a part of The Sopranos. The show would never have existed if not for Chase’s mom and his upbringing in New Jersey, so the intercuts between his life and certain scenes within the show really do illuminate the connection between artist and life. If you’re like me and think it’s one of the greatest TV shows ever made, chances are you will greatly enjoy this 2 part documentary, as I very much did.

“Estou começando a sentir que cheguei no final. O melhor já passou…”. A memorável frase de Tony Soprano em sua primeira consulta com Dr. Melfi é o sentimento que toma conta de todo espectador que chega ao fim da série. O melhor já passou. The Sopranos é insuperável. David Chase, obrigado.
