   Like all Roland Emmerich movies, at once obsessed with American exceptionalism and iconography and disgusted by its government. Sure, its posturing on “the military industrial complex” is facile stuff. It’s fun to see a blockbuster action movie about the White House being attacked where the villains are a coterie of right-wing nuts and scumbag politicians, though. But it’s hilarious how many Emmerich movies are about how the American political infrastructure is rotten to the core, barring a few exceptional souls. Godzilla, Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow, 2012 all spring to mind. Also in all these films, the military is too satisfied with itself, uselessly throwing expensive bombs and tech at problems that are usually solved with know-how and elbow grease. Whatever. Mostly White House Down is just utterly in touch with its own silliness and in Tatum and Foxx has two exceptionally charming leads to hang every scene on. Coulda done with more James Woods, always.

   “did you see my routine!?” that moment IS the cinema. Roland Emmerich for President. seriously, dude should only be allowed to make movies that involve destroying the white house. fun, expensive, beautifully detailed. less “Die Hard in The White House” than it is “Air Force One on the ground.” and i mean that in the best way.

    James Woods ringleading a government coup? Seems a little far fetched. This movie is dumb but it’s also really entertaining. It’s got a helluva stacked cast. I hope everyone got a really nice boat or house for doing it. The last time I watched it is probably when I bought the blu-ray in 2013ish. I unironically really like it. Maybe I should watch the other White House under attack film one day. I love how Hollywood has these double ups…

His movies never end, there’s always 30 more minutes, and there’s always another 10 more movies to watch. It has become the most arduous task in my film-watching journey. Is it to be the last?

    It’s just silly goofy fun. Who cares if it makes total sense, we’re blowing stuff up, running around like characters being chased in Scooby Doo and making so many dumb decisions. The cgi is so crazy bad too. They couldn’t build a small lot for all the outdoor scenes?
