This is the meanest horror movie I’ve ever seen. It makes Speak No Evil look like Paw Patrol. There are images I will never be able to pry from my brain. This isn’t popcorn horror. And it isn’t violence so over-the-top that you can make it abstract, make it fun. No, no. If you see this surrounded by loved ones you might be merely shocked. My theater was empty, utterly. I was alone. And I feel like I’ll be alone forever.

This is insane. A revolting concoction of agony, despair and relentlessly violent sequences with some of the best practical effects of the decade so far. Dread from beginning to end. A film that never loses your attention while yet making you want to look away in order to escape. So bleak, so disturbing—it could be the best horror film of the year. What a wonderful time!

Absolutely shocking moments of gore with awesome practical effects. They really show everything too, doesn’t shy away from killing kids and animals in the worst imaginable ways. The story in between these moments are incredibly boring to me though. Annoying dialogue, frustrating decision making and unnatural character interactions—or is it culture shock?! I doubt it cause it’s awful, I hope nobody thinks like these characters. The superstitions and religious beliefs are also overly exagerated to the point of becoming comedy. Too much melodrama and exposition in the third act. A frustrating watch. It’s too bad because I really enjoyed the beginning of the movie and the epic gnarly gore scenes.

This was a semi-fresh demon film in the sense that it did not focus on a singular possessed person in the generic settings, i.e. possessed person lying on the bed with a priest next to them. The film delivered some pretty good shock moments, and the atmosphere was dark. It conveyed the feeling of powerlessness in the face of great evil very well. However, the movie was lacking in memorable characters and was somewhat forgettable overall due to not doing anything outstanding, just doing things well.

Esse filme passa uma vibe tão esquisita, principalmente na parte da escola no final. Não estava com grandes expectativas mas me surpreendi, é bem legalzinho de ver, tem uma atmosfera bem sinistra, não imaginava que seria assim o filme. E a parte do cachorro…. o que foi isso???? Blistering in its approach to throwing the whole kitchen sink at you and then proving to you that the first kitchen sink was half the size of the next three. While I’d normally criticize a movie where the main protagonist makes frankly dumb decisions I can’t say if I was hit with one sink, much less so four, I’d be making sane choices. This one wracked my nervous system in ways I didn’t think a movie could in my adult life.

Some of the most shocking sights ever shown in a horror movie sandwiched between the most boring, idiotic shit I’ve ever seen. Maybe I’m missing something but I have zero connection with these characters so I don’t understand why they do some of the shit they do but I was just frustrated at every choice they made. In the end it’s just not worth it, there’s not enough gore in the world to distract from how dull the whole thing is.

This was a good movie that I somewhat enjoyed but I felt as though it could’ve been better, still an enjoyable watch for what it’s worth. The premise was interesting, the score was great, and the overall plot was decent, but I wasn’t a big fan of the characters throughout the story. I wouldn’t watch again but I have to say, this movie was disgusting and horrifying in a great way.

The gore was so good, the visuals and everything was so aesthetically apathic. It’s sadistic it’s cruel and manipulative. I loved it so much. Pedro was stupid was hell but also in a way the abandonment of society’s more poor class into a true hell, with an Antichrist like creature emerging from there, unknowingly to the burocracy. When Evil Lurks is a disturbing and intense horror movie that doesn’t rely on cheap jump scares. The atmosphere is genuinely unsettling, and the movie’s unpredictable nature keeps you uncomfortable throughout. The violence can be shocking, but it fits the dark and brutal world the film creates. I especially liked how it builds tension and refuses to play by typical horror rules.However, the ending didn’t work for me. It felt a little underwhelming and left me wanting a more satisfying conclusion after everything that came before it.

Movie doesn’t explain itself in any moment and abuses bloody images to cause terror, not achieving more than gruesome reactions. Its universe could be more appreciated if the explanations didn’t came until too late. Turns out a study was done in an town in Argentina where the cancer rate was X5 the national average. The director took the sickness and turned it into a what if it was a demon instead scenario.
