    I like the effort I feel it & I see it but I’d be lying if I said I felt anything, anything at all during this whopping 2 and a half hours. It was on & it was certainly good theres clear talent on display thats undeniable, but never, not once did it genuinely move me. Now saying a Spielberg film doesnt have the feels is saying something and I dont wanna say he’s lost his sauce cause that’d be a reach.…

    I’m not a musical theater person and I’m not particularly familiar with this story other than it being branded as a more “gritty” Romeo and Juliet. I ultimately found this lacking. Not really willing to fully explore its themes, but very willing to use them as songs. Songs that do a good job attempting to obfuscate the fact that the story is boring and ridiculous. Maybe I’m just cynical, but I’m supposed to believe Maria is so in love with…

    Creo que esta versión tiene algunos aciertos, como la relación entre María y Tony, en esta se siente más orgánica y asentada en mi opinión. Hay algunas recontextualizaciones o pequeños cambios que mejoran ciertos aspectos narrativos de la obra original que todavia me parecen ilógicos o sin sentido, pero, aun así y a pesar de estos retoques, creo que la versión original es en líneas generales mejor en todo sentido. La música como siempre, es la protagonista 10/10

    The whole movie blew me. In the span of 2 days… we are forever, my brother was killed and the only reasonable response was to f*ck his murderer. right. Also, Anita girl— “A boy who kills cannot love.” shut the fuck up. so you mean Bernardo too?? But also Maria would’ve been more than slapped. Anita is grieving and she’s singing loud asf in her face. I was waiting on firm right hook. The accents took me out unfortunately. Mayhaps because I know they don’t have one. It feels like blackface for accents.

    Watched directly after the 1961 version. The different sequencing and characterizations of Riff and Chino pace out the structure more evenly here. I know nothing about musical theatre mind you and don’t have much to add that hasn’t been said. Ariana DeBose, Mike Faist, Rachel Zegler, and David Alvarez are all amazing to watch. It’s nice returning to it after Challengers considering Faist was a standout even when I watched it on streaming back then, he carries those white boys…

    I say again, the 2021 Oscars, stripped to studs and rebuilt from scratch. This should have had picture, cinematography, costumes (sorry Curella), AND adapted screenplay (that snub still rankles me!!!) but if we’re going only on what was nominated, CODA can keep it. Power of the Dog gets director, supporting actress, supporting actor for Kodi, score. Dune keeps sound, vfx, and barely eeks out the production design and editing wins over WSS. Garfield should have Actor for Tick Tick Boom and you know what, I’m ok with Chastain’s Actress win SORRY. What a shitshow of a ceremony that was.

    After watching the documentary of the movie I noticed so many details that I missed and the songs all just make me wanna just start preforming. Especially “cool” it makes me wanna start dancing even though I can’t for the life of me. If I could have 5 favorites this would be one of them.
