This is a pretty bad coming of age comedy with your typical unknown fraternity versus a big fraternity of wealthy students in an education competition theme. It’s nothing new or unique and actually bored me almost to sleep. Many jokes involve words mistaken for other other words due to one of several different dialects used by characters. The rest are jests involving nudity. So basically your typical juvenile coming of age comedy, except this one was on par with some of the American Pie Presents spinoffs rather than your typical National Lampoons feature. 2006 Ranked 2000’s Ranked Comedies Ranked Comedies in the 2000’s Ranked Romance films Ranked Coming of Age Comedies Ranked Sports & Competitions Ranked

A step down from the original with Ryan Reynolds but it’s still a fun time and Kal Penn does a good job stepping up as the lead man in this one rather than just a side character. I also preferred Lauren Cohan as the love interest over Tara Reid. It’s mostly a retread of the original but with a frat vs frat competition thrown in.

“Violence doesn’t solve anything bitch” This was actually a bit better than I had heard. I laughed a handful of times and there were a couple of close ups of boobs so low bar dutifully cleared! (Nods) I was moderately amused! This was actually fairly sweet in its tone as Kal Penn overcomes the racist attitudes of the other frat guys he has to compete against…(“Let’s settle this the way my ancestors did” “You’re gonna exploit me economically???”) and ends up having a relationship with the rival rich boy frat leader’s girlfriend (played by Lauren Cohan from The Walking Dead) while being a teaching assistant on campus and being all “Everybody throw your books out the window” He also becomes…

Not sure why I do this to myself, watching these completely unheralded sequels to just competent originals. No one in this comes off well, and I’m completely comfortable blaming the writers. Every joke in it is a watered-down version of one in the original, with the exception of the foul-mouthed Scottish lass, a recurring bit I found amusing. Her jokes and a couple references to The Adventures of Robin Hood keep this above the lowest score.

40 (Theatrical Cut) Mort Nathan’s “Boat Trip” is one of the worst aged comedies I’ve ever seen. I gave it a very (deservingly) low score for being entirely cliche, shallow and homophobic. I also don’t have any sort of affinity for the first “Van Wilder” as I find it to be a mediocre narrative filled with worthless comedy. For these reasons, I expected this sequel to be just as bad if not worse than both of the films I’ve previously mentioned. Somehow, although still not great by any means, Mort Nathan’s Rise of Taj is tolerably entertaining. Kal Penn returns for the role of the massively offensive Taj Mahal Badalandabad alongside a very early in her career Lauren Cohen. Seeing…

8.25 out of 10 “It’s not the building that matters, it’s the people inside.” I’ll die on the hill defending this one. I was a junior in high school when this one was released. I’ve easily watched it ten plus times in my life and to this day it never gets old. Yes, it’s low budget, nothing like the first film, but it’s just comical and has some classic lines in it. Kal Penn does amazing in this and to me it’s a must watch. Finally upgraded my dvd to the rare OOP blu ray! “To the cock and bulls” Cheers up

Rotten Tomatoes: 7% Metacritic Metascore: 21 IMDB: 4.9 Release Date: 01 December 2006 Distributor: Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) Budget: $5M Worldwide Gross: $6M Taj: “verticle smile, scrambled eggs between the legs, sunny side up on the way to the butt.” You know things aren’t going well when the title character doesn’t make an appearance in the ‘sequel’. As much as I enjoyed Kal Penn in the first Van Wilder (and Harold and Kumar), he isn’t given much to work with here. TRIVIA: Taj’s last name Badalandabad, in Hindi slang, translates to “land where people have big penises”. The script is awful, just brutal. I think I laughed twice throughout the whole thing. I’m sure nobody is watching this type of movie for…

E do nada aparece a…

Taj Mahal Badalandabad leaves Coolidge College behind for the halls of Camford University in England, where he looks to continue his education, and teach an uptight student how to make the most out of her academic career. It’s a testament to how truly awful things have gotten that an Indian character in a 2000s comedy named “Taj Mahal” is a much less racist character than the shit I’ve seen against Indian people on Instagram today.

Kal Penn is Taj Mahal Badalandabad in National Lampoon’s Van Wilder: The Rise of Taj That’s right, that Van Wilder movie had a sequel. And you really feel Tara Reid missing. She gave the first movie balance it added some light drama to the fratty dumb Deadpool of it all. But this time it’s Kal Penn’s movie to star in and he does what he can. But by this time the gross out teen comedy was already getting tired. This…

Sometimes, things are better left untouched but this National Lampoon’s MO. Ride the train of their intellectual (this is hardly that) property until the wheels fall off. I still cannot believe that Lauren Cohan was in this movie but hey, everyone needs to start somewhere. Long before her time on the Walking Dead, Cohan starred alongside original Van Wilder actor, Kal Penn, in this odd romantic college comedy. Director Mort Nathan doesn’t have the most dazzling film resume and this…

This movie is considerably bad, but it it has this charm for some reason that makes it watchable. Not more than once that’s for sure, but it’s watchable. Kal Penn is still funny and some of the side characters have these crazy personalities that are inevitably funny, even if the jokes are bad. I think the biggest surprise in this movie though is the love interest being a very, very young Lauren Cohen. Who I absolutely could not ever imagine…

I’m sure everyone in 2006 was begging for a Van Wilder sequel without Ryan Reynolds in it. Van Wilder isn’t even in the movie, why is it called Van Wilder 2? Don’t piss me off. Actually, I’m not that mad. I don’t have the energy to be mad about fucking Van Wilder 2 of all things.

It’s July 6, 2009. Kal Penn stands outside the white house as a sea of reporters eagerly await his opening statement. “This is an incredibly historic time,” Penn says as he nervously taps his thumb to his fingers. “I am deeply honoured to be here and I hope to serve my country to the best of my ability,” Penn’s first day with the Obama administration as an associate director in the White House Office of Public Engagement as liaison for…

Absolutely awful on every level. zero funny. a shameless copy of the first movie, it’s absurd how similar the stories are. and on top of all that, this movie is jam packed with dumb stuff, things that make NO SENSE AT ALL. it was so glaring in so many moments. the amount of dumbness was shocking (1 viewing)

This movie feels like a cash grab. It’s about Taj from the first movie National Lampoons Van Wilder. Reminds me of the second Christmas Vacation movie with Cousin Eddie. The humor is east Indian centric in this of course since it’s Taj and I found myself laughing just once or twice. Watch if you are curious like I was or don’t bother wasting your time. 2 1/2 of 5 stars.

Why did I watch this?… Look i saw the first Van Wilder in high school and thought it was funny cause teenage me had a lot of growing up to do yet. This was bad for a sequel to a bad film to begin with. It honestly was painful to get through, nothing landed of its jokes and Kal Penn tried but failed. I was so bored I had to stop myself from scrolling through the reviews until the film…

I count that as a romcom. And the comedy is giggeling about naughty words. The one good joke was at the end about their acestors. Everything about that’s problematic about those movies you know by now. I don’t know if wokeism killed comedy, or we realised slight racism and mysogyny wasn’t really funny in the first place. But i kind of miss those dumb movies. To the Cock and Balls!

How is this actualy good as a film? As a commedy its pretty meh tho, yes some jokes hit really well but there is one big problem: they try to be a rouchy commedy and have a serious meaning at the same time and they’re a classic mid 2000s mid-budget commedy. In my opinion they should’ve focussed on just one of the two, stipp just an okay-enjoyable watch

Van Wilder: The Rise of Taj is a predictable sequel that struggles to capture the raunchy energy of its predecessor. The story follows a formulaic path that becomes obvious within the first few minutes, leaving little room for genuine surprises or excitement. Kal Penn returns as Taj, but his performance often feels grating rather than charming, while the supporting cast sticks to generic archetypes. Despite the National Lampoon branding, the humor frequently misses the mark, hampered by a dull narrative and repetitive clichés. Ultimately, it is a lackluster comedy that feels more like a direct-to-video afterthought than a necessary continuation.
