as some of you know, I love me a good batshit right-wing hackjob “documentary” that’s all splash and ideology and no self-awareness. there’s some gems out there — though there’s also complete morons like D’Souza and his pathological ineptitude/fabrications (and fucking horrible editing, christ) are a dime a dozen on YouTube. this one was a bit more depressing, though. not because of the concept; black conservatism is fine, everyone is allowed to believe what they want…but the filter this entire documentary runs through is that same kind of inane, myopic, selective “it was the republicans who freed the slaves! never mind the whole Southern Strategy and demographic split or any recent history!” revisionist quackery that works on fox news boomers…

A documentary about black conservatives. I don’t exactly know what I was expecting to find here. If I was American, I would definitely be a proud democrat, so I think my biases going in caused me to expect more judgement towards the subjects on display. But Uncle Tom essentially paints a portrait of individual beliefs. There is no critique of these beliefs which on one hand creates a purity of message, however it also scrubs a lot of American history of at least 50% of the facts. And even though many of the talking heads here are very intelligent, their viewpoint on an idealized American history creates just another propaganda piece, albeit from a different point of view. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if Donald Trump himself stole large segments of this film to play for his audience at one of his upcoming rallies.

The way every interviewee finds a way to force the word “victim” into at least one sound bite? Masterful. The most this project can hope for is to exemplify relentless propaganda for capitalism. Also, the fact that, despite his death, they included Herman Cain laughing his ass off about having a fat bank account without any sort of nod to his passing should be enough to show 1) the deeply-seated neurosis that is capitalism and 2) the intent of this “documentary.” Oh, and if this is about Black conservatives, then why do they spend the majority of their time talking about liberals? At the very least, learning more about who the interviewees are beyond raging capitalists could have been a…

This couldn’t even make it 11 mins before someone had to mention how they thought party switching was a myth… And then Candace Owens shows up because why wouldn’t she… And then everybody has to have a right wing piece of clothing attire on like a MAGA hat, or a White Privilege shirt… And then it is just ad nauseam having people attempt to create a narrative that modern day racism, discrimination, disenfranchisement, etc. doesn’t exist, you are just being brainwashed into thinking it is… And then how for whatever reason race has to be kept in check and made subservient to the idea of being an American… And then a “great” story about how someone’s career path wasn’t defined…

We’re calling it the 1776 Consortium, to respond to the 1619 piece that was done in the New York Times. I’m not interested in engaging in debate with them. I’m saying we need an accurate portrayal of slavery, but it doesn’t totally define the black condition. We want our people to understand that the future of black America is not defined by slavery but by the kinds of things we did in response to these conditions, similar to what you and your husband have overcome. So, I’m gonna send you if I could, an invitation to formally join us. —Robert L. Woodson, American Civil Rights Activist The sad part of our society is that we live in a world engaged…

deeply insulting and potentially dangerous conservative propaganda: a refusal to acknowledge past events in their full context, blaming victimhood and a lack of guidance/role models on the current inequities of black americans–the boilerplate boot strappy, respectability politics that’s always reserved especially for black people–and not the history of state approved legislation and practices intended to disenfranchise black americans. i wish i could give this fewer stars and leave a flaming bag of shit somewhere for justin malone to step in, but i’ll settle for exerting my will into the universe that the most supple portion of his foot meets the sharpest lego block known to mankind–without socks!–everyday for the rest of his life. in short: justin malone is a fugly slut, do not trust him.

This probably won’t be liked by close-minded, emotional people and anyone who obsesses over identity politics (which is a close-minded and emotion-based ideology). Rather, it’ll likely be blindly criticized and/or dismissed entirely by those types of folks. Ironically, that’s a major theme explored in this documentary. If you value individualism and critical thinking, this is refreshing and well worth your time.

A very curious propaganda film about black conservatism in the United States. Certainly detailed, clearly biased, and curiously quiet about the abuses still piled on marginalised minorities today. I have no problem with anyone who chooses to be conservative (with either a small or large C) as that is their choice, but Uncle Tom screams of smug self-interest and dismissal of what one commentator refers to as ‘negative energy’.

A very politically charged movie. Be prepared. Told directly from the interviews with African-American conservatives, the entire “race debate” is unfolded and explored in this documentary. It’s a deep dive into the history of racial politics and how the two major U.S. political parties have handled this hot-button issue. From back to the root causes all the way through the turbulent 60’s and into our current unstable political flooring, this documentary digs into the “fight” for the African-American vote and loyalty. It’s certainly incendiary and not recommended for watching around the family Thanksgiving table.

The ignorance displayed in this film is staggering! There are a few small points made here that actually does have some validity to them, but it is buried in context that just makes it so fucking absurd and nonsensical… How are they making MLK and JFK into modern day republicans? This would be a lot more compelling if half the people interviewed weren’t hateful bigots or shameless self-promoters. The film falls back on a handful of dishonest talking points—Democrats are the party of the KKK, Planned Parenthood has an anti-Black agenda, welfare destroyed the nuclear family. There are plenty of substantive criticisms of neoliberalism and the Democrats’ failures vis-à-vis their African American base, but you won’t hear them from idiots like Candace Owens or Jessie Lee Peterson.

A doc supporting Black American conservatives (Candace Owens, Larry Elder etc.). The basic idea is that racial injustice no longer exists and now victimisation mindsets/ideologies are what remain. Also the Democratic party never “swaped” from its early racist roots. Also they seem to found most of their ideas (rather blindly) on the American Constitution and Christianity. Also has a conspiracy tone (Democrsts urban designed inner city to create more violence and control media).

I watched this on a whim this evening and I’m bowled over by how brilliantly articulate and empowering this documentary has proven to be, beyond my wildest hopes for it after reading the description of it. True black excellence in America today is found the most in the less than 10% who identify themselves by conservative values, I’ve believed this since coming of age and you will to hopefully after watching this fantastic piece.

“There’s no such thing as racism, sexism, homophobi-ism, Islamophobi-ism, deadbeat dad-ism (?) or white supremacism.” Well-made piece of Republican propaganda, told from the perspective of the individual beliefs of black American conservatives. It does well at balancing the great stories of self-empowered African Americans lifting themselves up, with an assertion that Democrats are weaving a narrative to keep down the black community by giving them a victim mentality. Ends with a call for the GOP to reach out to African Americans, as well as taking expected anti-abortion and anti-illegal immigration “Hispanics are replacing us” stances.

A documentary about black conservatives could be very interesting but no one really makes good faith political documentaries any more (but did they ever, to be fair). They’re so skewed and biased. But in my expedition to expose myself to those with whom I disagree, here I am. This was an insanely hard watch. Even in terms of looney and biased docs, this is especially biased and looney. We reached my favorite argument at minute eleven: “Democrats are the real…

There is no critique of these beliefs which on one hand creates a purity of message, however it also scrubs a lot of American history…

The start was tolerable. I mean, the bias was overbearing but I think there could be some merit in examining the experience of a black conservative in the country. I just think maybe I am just intrigued about that perspective in particular. I mean it was interesting enough for me (someone who is definitely not the target audience) to give the movie a chance. But… this is horrible. Just the shear amount of inaccuracies, generalizations and cringe worthy talking heads…

this is a poorly made platform for people peddling very harmful ideals, not much pushback from the interviews, I cannot tell whether they’re presenting these people to humanize them or to explore their stupidity, either way it’s more harmful than good

A bit of a disappointment. I’m all for highlighting black people that doesn’t let their race define them and all but it was a bit unfocused and sloppily done. I expected it to be more of a complete documentary digging into the roots of the Uncle Tom mythology (if you want to call it that). If you are completely clueless as to what Uncle Tom means, it’s basically a (usually right wing) black person who is considered a race-traitor by…

This film addresses the fundamental problem of African American society. Certainly this is a bit biased but isn’t everything?

If you want to watch a #Blexit movie about how Democrats are the Real Racists that doesn’t challenge the target viewer or the power structures in the Globalist American Empire in a meaningful way, then this was made for you. Somehow watching Uncle Tom managed to make me less enthused about Larry Elder’s gubernatorial run, not more. Jesse Lee Peterson may be on the poster, but unfortunately he gets little screen time despite having the most uncompromising and compelling voice…

At some point the message becomes redundant, with a tendency to isolate facts from context, but the premise is never in doubt. It is what it is. People have the right to believe what they want, without conforming to stereotypes. There’s a chip on their shoulder. They want to address it. Activism is alive and well. Let freedom ring.

Its never a bad idea to explore a counter narrative. Many people will have problems with this movie, but it’s kind of the point. Most media narratives want to reinforce the victimization narrative, it is refreshing to have the other perspective. Even if you don’t agree with it, it’s though provoking.

Listening to both sides of the argument is important and I agree with it wholeheartedly. But what begins as an interesting piece rapidly descends into right wing propaganda and the arguments made I don’t agree with. Not one bit.

“Our blood is on this soil. We own this too.” A breakout film that was all but ignored (it was the second highest-grossing documentary last year), Justin Malone’s Uncle Tom offers a broad, accessible overview of the socioeconomic decline of the black community in America, covering the myriad problems that arose in the wake of the welfare state and the resulting collapse of the nuclear family unit. Judging by the reviews I’ve skimmed thus far, several have been quick to…

as some of you know, I love me a good batshit right-wing hackjob “documentary” that’s all splash and ideology and no self-awareness. there’s some gems out there — though there’s also complete morons like D’Souza and his pathological ineptitude/fabrications (and fucking horrible editing, christ) are a dime a dozen on YouTube. this one was a bit more depressing, though. not because of the concept; black conservatism is fine, everyone is allowed to believe what they want…but the filter this entire…

I thought this was a pretty good documentary about some of the most reviled people in the political space: the black conservative. A lot of good information that many people left of center will certainly just discount and get mad at (evident in many reviews here), although I could’ve done without the documentary turning into an “elect Trump 2020” campaign video because that waters down the overall message and doesn’t come off as the strong documentary that it should. I…

Everyone giving this half a star are the real fascists. They can’t stand other people — especially minorities — having different views than them. And because if that they’re blind to this beautifully done piece how the black community has been hijacked and abused by political leaders.

Perfect timing to release this documentary to combat some of the hysteria at the moment with “RACISM”. However, I completely disagree with some of the framing in this doco. Here are some of the arguments in this film: 1. “Democrats are the real racists!” 2. “Race” doesn’t matter. We are all individuals. 3. If only you worked hard, and chose individual responsibility everything will work out. 4. Vote Republican! I’ve strawmanned the arguments in this doco for expediency’s sake. I…
