+1 for Alicia absolutely owning the role +1 for nods to the 2013 game -1 for literally no other interesting characters -2 the exposition/flashbacks killed my soul +6 for each of Alicia Vikander’s glorious abs

I don’t care how many times it’s been said or how many times you’ve had to hear it and I don’t care about the pathetic male “critics” who think lara’s breast size or their personal level of attraction to alicia vikander affects quite literally anything about this movie’s quality I LOVE BADASS WOMEN CHARACTERS and I feel SO blessed to be seeing them become more and more celebrated as I’m growing older and we can reboot everything and anything for all I care if it means we get more sick films like this that just make you feel COOL and on edge and scared and sad and happy and cheerful and fearful and most of all POWERFUL!! Woohooooo!!!!!!!

It was a fragment of the actual games, the cinematography really carried this one on its back because the way that the scenes were designed was absolutely breathtaking, the actress had a ton of potential but she really showed mediocre amounts of emotion most of the time, and what happened to the dad was really the most predictable thing ever. The villain of the story had pretty much zero depth since there were no scenes on his past and what…

Honestly found this more entertaining than I thought I would. I liked this iteration of Lara Croft as a scrappy young woman searching for answers about her missing father. This leaves behind the sexed up female action heroes of the 90’s/2000’s in favor of a badass. Alicia Vikander did a solid job, but I wanted more of the lore related to the central mystery/conflict. It’s a fast-paced action movie that kept my interest and that’s really all I ask for in this genre.

A very lazy attempt to adapt the first entry in the “Survivor Trilogy”. All of the supernatural elements have been completely removed, meaning the Solarii Brotherhood has no reason to exist anymore since Himiko is no longer controlling the storms that keep them on the island. Since there’s no cult, they have been replaced with the bad guys from the second game. None of Lara’s friends are here either and she instead just befriends a complete stranger and reunites with…

Apart from knowing that this was adapted from an adventure video game series and that there was a film starring Angelina Jolie a long time ago, I knew nothing about the lore. The film felt like a wannabe Indiana Jones or National Treasure, but it didn’t quite work. The film begins with Lara Croft, a multimillionaire (or billionaire) heiress with a generic daddy issue, which leads her to grow away from her inheritance and embarks on an adventure after she…

🏹 What works * 🔥 Alicia Vikander is great — She gives Lara a more grounded and vulnerable personality. * 🗺️ Fun adventure — The exploration, puzzles, tombs, and ancient mysteries fit the Tomb Raider spirit. * 💥 Good action — The movie has some exciting chase and survival sequences. * ❤️ Emotional story — Lara’s relationship with her father gives the adventure more personal stakes. * 🎬 Good visuals — The locations and ancient ruins look impressive. * 🏃…

Adventure filmmaking by the numbers, but at least the numbers are all correct. Shipwreck, island, tomb, greedy men with guns — every beat arrives exactly on schedule, and the film hits each one cleanly and moves on. Nothing surprises, but nothing embarrasses either.

Perfect acceptable. Not particularly good but definitely not bad. The two hours I watched it flew by. I’d probably say “inessential”. I had a PlayStation and a PlayStation 2 from 1997 to 2006 or so and never once played Tomb Raider. I mostly played sports games (with the exception of socially playing Goldeneye on N64 in the late 90s in high school and the college dorms). Every time I try to get back into video games (messing around with my son’s switch or PS 5 now, even sports games) I immediately discover it’s just not for me anymore for whatever reason.

The most difficult hurdle for this film was trying to replace Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft since I always thought she played the character so well. Alicia Vikander did a pretty good job here though and the story wasn’t bad either. Walton Goggins as a supporting character always helps though. This was fun and I’d watch a sequel, but it’s not a high priority movie for me overall.
