Anyone who has had the good fortune of meeting Jessica Chastain will reiterate what I’m about to inform you: this woman puts Gandhi to shame when it comes to being kind. I’ve been a huge fan of hers since the beginning of my film-obsessed years, so being able to express that to her–as well as shaking her hand–after her Q&A was the high point of my life (events like getting married or children being born will most definitely not eclipse this). Even as security tried to prevent it, she stayed around until everyone got an autograph or a picture. That should tell you all you need to know. As for the film itself, it’s unfortunately not very good. It’s a…

We may never run out of movies to make about World War II, the people who lived through it, and the people who didn’t. It may seem a bit obvious given the global scope of the conflict, but the sheer number of narratives that have emerged from the period is truly mind-boggling, bordering on the infinite, and it often feels as though most of them have made their way in front of a camera. The Holocaust alone offers more stories than we could ever hope to pass along — in Niki Caro’s beautifully realized and occasionally stirring “The Zookeeper’s Wife,” even the animals have their own tales to tell. Adapted from Diane Ackerman’s book of the same name, Caro’s most…

the big question is: is Daniel Bruhl being typecasted as a Nazi (if so, I’m sad for him), or does he specifically request Nazi roles (if so, I’m scared of him)?

This movie is based on the true story of the owners of the Warsaw Zoo- covering the time from when the Germans first invaded Poland in September of 1939 through the wind of the war. The owners, Jan and Antonina Sabrinski saw an opportunity to use their zoo and its facilities to hide and smuggle Jews out of the ghetto and into safe housing. It’s an amazing story and the movie does a good job of retelling it, showing the…

There’s a frame in the movie where Daniel Bruhl’s character is standing next to an Eagle just after killing an Eagle. That sums up his character basically. Jessica Chastain played the role perfectly. Bravo. I also cried like 5 times in the first 20 mins but we don’t talk about that.

Keepers list. In all seriousness, as a zoo keeper I can’t watch this without wondering how some scenes were filmed in those cages and handling of certain animals. The brutality of how these animals were killed on screen wasn’t fun to watch at all. Sometimes I can’t suspend my belief with animal films.

This is such an underrated ww2 movie, really interesting seeing the war from different points of view, in this case while focusing on what happens to the animals at war, it mostly focuses on the recognition of the valor and bravery of the people that helped jews during the war, this being a true story only adds up to the huge range emotions this movie makes you go through. Again a masterpiece of a performance by Jessica Chastain.

An ok film The acting, cinematography and plot are fine. The pace isn’t that good The film is mostly boring but knowing that the main theme of the movie is real is very shocking and entertaining and the film did have some very good traumatizing and disturbing scenes that depict the horrors of WW2. The ending is fine and somewhat boring…but because it’s supposed to be accurate you just can’t change the ending. That’s the problem with accurate films because…

That one was good but there was something missing to get five. Some scenes seems to be just ridiculous, like the one when the boy is shouting something about Hitler in front of one of his officials it’s just like WHY YOU DID THAT??? And the beginning was so sad (most of those cute animals are dying).

I thought it’s going to be full of sweetness overload of wild life in a popular zoom. I DONT EVEN EXPECT IT TO BE CAPTURING AN OTHER SIDE OF ANIMAL. As a both animal lovers and war documentary movies antusiast, it’s confusing my emotion between how is it hurtfull too watch or is it interesting. All I know it’s a good movie to uncovered other perspective of the war effect. Such a complicated momentum.

There is a scene in this movie that encapsulates the transcending horrors of genocide. A blond woman poses for a photo in front of the Warsaw ghetto. Such an image repeats itself in the lives of those lost in makeshift encampments, prisons, and warfronts at this very moment.

“The Zookeper’s Wife” offers what you expect from the average “based on a true story” movie. A bunch of talented performers stuck with characters devoid of any development or characteristic traits beside being saviors of the jews. Not only do they forget about the main characters, but the atmosphere of the film doesn’t bother to construct any slow pacing for the exploration of the situatiom the characters are or to explore in a more objective light the emotional and psychological…

i was so stressed out while watching this movie cause i thought this movie would be a light watch since the poster itself is very bright and it has lion cub too.. 😢 the movie tells about how dark & how difficult it was during ww2. many innocent people became the victims, and the main characters in this movie were trying to help them escape. it was a very horrifying situation cause they have to hide from the soldiers and live in fear :_( thank goodness the war finally ends, i hope the war that has been happening right now in this real world ends too 🙂

This was a beautiful film Jessica Chastain has a wonderful tenderness that bleeds through the screen and almost makes your heart ache. She does such a wonderful job of bringing Antonina to life. look i know i am overthinking this but i genuinely cannot wrap my head around the reason why these people are speaking ENGLISH with a POLISH accent in a movie set warsaw during the ww2. polish people don’t speak polish with polish accents. they just speak polish. by afflicting the actors with what amounts to an affectation, the film may be signaling to the audience that, hey, these are poles, but it’s also betraying the whole nature of language. accents are…

The Zookeeper’s Wife is one of those films where the story is incredible, but the movie itself feels a bit too quiet for its own good. like, you can feel the weight of what’s happening, but it never fully hits you the way it should. jessica chastain was really gentle and warm in this, and i liked how the film focused on kindness instead of just brutality. the whole “hiding people in a zoo” concept is honestly insane (in a…

I like the story line and how it’s based off a true story. I couldn’t hold myself together when the animals were dieing in the beginning. Don’t usually cry during movies but the animals had me tearing up. I learned a lot from this movie. Jan getting shot and being taken as a prisoner sucked because they just had there little girl and I wonder how those people who were hidden lived the rest of their lives after this.happy that they ended up opening the zoo again in real life.
