A very decent TV movie version of the Zodiac killings, obviously this got swallowed up whole shortly after thanks to David Fincher’s masterpiece, then again I only watched it because I’d just seen the Fincher film in cinemas and desperately needed to pass the time until the disc release. It’s a mostly bland film, again probably because this needs to go toe to toe with having identical scenes shot by one of the best directors of all time, as much I want to try and take this movie on it’s own terms it might just have the singularly worst luck in release timing ever. I am now in control of all things…” A pretty decent adaptation of the Zodiac killer that came out a couple years before the more famous Zodiac film (by Fincher) This one lays more into the officer on the case and how tearing trying to solve it can be. It’s a decent depiction with a solid ending, I feel it’s definitely underrated and worth a watch. The based on a true story stuff always gets me. It’s just another adaptation, a different angle, another perspective. DVD Thrift Find Wife’s Rating- 7.0 out of 10 Cheers Up Cinema

Did you know Phillip Baker Hall did 2 films about this killer? And did you also know that this is the first dud I’ve come across going through his filmography lately as well? At the very end, an actual note that was delivered from the guy claiming to be the serial murderer states when a good movie’s gonna be made about him. Thankfully, it only took two years after this lame one for a more than good one to arrive. Even more amusingly, what was completely tackled here was depicted in that better one within its first 30 minutes!

Who will play me?” –letter purporting to be from the Zodiac to the San Francisco Chronicle, April 24, 1978 If the Zodiac was alive in 2006, when this came out in the US, then he still had to wait another year for a good movie about him because this one doesn’t cut it. Sure, it’s not as godawful as Ulli Lommel’s, but that’s not exactly a high bar to clear.

This film took me 5 days to watch, I just couldn’t get through it. The acting is pretty good, especially by Justin Chambers, Philip Baker Hall and Rory Culkin, but that’s about the only good thing I can say about this film. I found it incredibly boring and although it’s only 97 minutes long, it feels like much longer. For a thriller, it wasn’t very thrilling. There was very little tension and it was pretty dark, but that’s the only interesting thing about the tone of the film. As for the plot, the Zodiac killer theme has been done before many times so it isn’t very original. If you want to watch a good film about the Zodiac, skip this one and watch David Fincher’s Zodiac instead.

Oh deary me, thank the movie gods that David Fincher’s Zodiac exists because this is just not up to par, sorry no no nah uh no ma’am. The cast are actually all pretty god, and the aesthetic is great, it’s just the plot that’s so hap-hazard. Yeah, nah.

I would shame Philip Baker Hall for double-dipping in the Zodiac cinematic universe, but the only thing this has going for it is that it came out before David Fincher’s so he actually got a chance to make up for this one unlike Robin Tunney and McNobody from Grey’s Anatomy. Rory Culkin gives his standard excellent performance as a Kid™️.

“I am waiting for a good movie about me.” we have Zodiac at home. thought this might be some kind of Asylum-esque mockbuster made to capitalize on Fincher’s superior film before its release, but nope. I think it’s just another one of those weird early-00s serial-killer exploitation flicks (Ed Gein, Ted Bundy, Dahmer, Gacy) made during the booming home-video market. only a curiosity if you want new-found ways to appreciate a masterpiece by seeing the same story butchered in the hands of a director less qualified (and not that it really matters, but who also has more Oscar wins than Fincher lol).

The best part of this movie was when my roommate paused the movie 15 minutes from the end and started playing the Twin Peaks theme song over the audio of the movie. The second best part was when her cousin kept pointing out parts of Vallejo.

This felt so incredibly low budget it was sad. Random cuts, weird transitions. Not a single thing was shot properly. Why did they show the kid being so invested in the zodiacs letters for it to mean nothing at the end. They really shot the same scene like thrice and thought it was acceptable.

At heart a very well done murder mystery, and yet a true story. The open endedness of the crime remains captivating and the telling of these murders is played out very well throughout. Not a blow away experience but well done nonetheless. Need to deep dive the zodiac killer now

Película mala como ella sola, y mira que el reparto y la ambientación acompañan bastante a como quieren contar la trama, pero es que no hay por donde cogerla. Parece que tuvieron prisa por sacar una adaptación al cine de lo ocurrido. Sin duda antes que ver esta os recomiendo ver la adaptación que salió 2 años más tarde.

Tough to not stick your nose up at this one compared to Fincher’s masterpiece from two years later. Despite a decent cast (wild to have Phillip Baker Hall in both films) and believable period production design it just doesn’t really come together, though I did find it fascinating to see a different attempt at tackling the same familiar material.
