   I recently watched THE SUBSTANCE and THE WILD ROBOT. One of them is about how women are forced to subject their bodies to unthinkable horrors in the pursuit of an impossible standard, all while an unforgiving society looks on. The other is THE SUBSTANCE, which has a great performance by Demi Moore.

   Well I absolutely loved this. A sweet, earnest parable about parenthood, purpose and perseverance. I find, as I get older, that I deeply appreciate stories that are kind and uncynical. The world needs more of them, especially now. I’m glad this one exists in the world, and my kids loved it too – though I think they’ll experience an entirely different movie if they revisit this when they’re older. This one got me, and I was fighting tears on more than a few occasions. One of my favorites this year.

    La relación madre-hijo es tierno sobretodo cuando ves como la robot ignora sus protocolos por el, aunque se supone que un robot no tiene sentimientos puedes llegar a ver o sentir como si tiene y el final da la posibilidad a una secuela.

    Watched this serveral times since seeing it at the cinema when it was first released!! I love the contemporary nature of showing the contrast between the tech world of robots, and how the world is advancing to the impact of the environment in the first scene. It’s a really beautiful film of seeing the blending of two opposite and unlikely worlds colliding. Some really strong messages, showing perhaps the benefit of two extremes, meeting in the middle together. 4 stars – the animation feels a bit too much graphically, I have preference for less modern graphics.

    Kind of cute, although a bit syrupy for my tastes. The moral seemed to be that everyone should try a bit harder to get on, but it didn’t really work at the level of carnivorous beasts and their prey! And there seemed to be an idea that technology can be can learn to be caring and loving, and I can’t see that happening!

    Sometimes hearts have their own conversations. No esperaba que me hiciera sentir tanto. Pensé que iba a encontrarme solo con una historia bonita y terminé lloriqueando reiteradas veces, completamente entregada a lo que estaba mirando. Me gustó mucho la forma en que habla de aprender a cuidar a alguien, de encontrar un lugar al que pertenecer y de cómo los vínculos pueden transformarnos incluso cuando no los estábamos buscando.     The combined stories of being an outcast and finding purpose truly is something that some can relate to. The struggles of our protagonists seem unfair to them but that’s the point. Beautifully told with humor that actually hit and having a great village of supporting characters. It does get a bit silly with the overaggression from the other robots but other than that, I would recommend this movie to others

    Well, time to call my mom while sobbing… Doesn’t hold back at all. Might make it less approachable for young kids, akin to films like Ratatouille or Up, but may be appreciated by older kids/preteens looking for something with a little more depth. Also, I can see some people complaining about how logically many things don’t work. And to that I say: emotion triumphs logic in storytelling. In that regard, this film wholly succeeds.

    I do love misplaced technology being claimed by nature, and this is a nice heartwarming story to go alongside it. Multiple characters getting development, beautiful art. It does feel like its acting like its deeper than it actually is, trying to go for a Woodland Wall-e kind of vibe. One of the great things about Wall-e was its simplicity, and this film has just a few too many moving parts to copy that. In the end, it is a kids film so the ‘lack of depth’ criticism isnt too damning. Its a lovely film to stick on if you fancy a nice little nature family watch
