A Nic Cage a Month Keeps You Drunk 3.0 This one took me by surprise. I was expecting a ho-hum family drama, and it’s not that at all. We listen as a man internally reflects on pieces of his life. I really liked the narration. It’s well written and Nic Cage has a great voice, soothing but emphatic. “If you want your father to think you’re not a silly fuck, don’t slap a guy across the face with a glove. Because if you do that, that’s what he will think, unless you’re a nobleman or something in the 19th century, which I’m not.” Dave Spritz. It’s not a great life he leads. Apart from his job, that is. He’s a…

Film #38 of The December Project The Weather Man is one of the best character studies I’ve ever seen and probably my favorite performance from Nicolas Cage. The description makes it seem like it’s going to be the most boring movie ever: “A Chicago weather man, separated from his wife and children, debates whether professional and personal success are mutually exclusive.” Sure, it’s accurate, but the film itself holds your attention more than that one sentence description does. There is barely any plot, but it’s okay, because the many subplots serve to move the film along and make you feel like lots of things are happening when they are not. That’s usually a weakness and shows that the film isn’t…

I love Nicolas Cage. Tartar sauce. I grew up just outside of Chicago. Tartar sauce. I like films where despair and dark comedy are often confused for one another. I wish I had two dicks. The Weather Man was the film for me all this time and I had no idea.

This is one odd crossroads for Nic Cage. It was really the last time we got “prestige” Cage. The last time he was granted the reputation as a “great actor” by the mainstream. He was coming off his last Oscar nomination (and my personal favorite performance) just three years earlier in Adaptation. Then Matchstick Men was lush with prestige in typical Ridley Scott fashion. And then the following year, National Treasure was his breakthrough “family film” hit. By 2005, Cage was now 40 years old with ten years of commercial and critical success to speak for him. Him winning his Oscar in 1996 all the way through The Weather Man in 2005 can be summarized as the “Cage Golden Age.”…

Vainglorious Tai Chi weather moves. I’m refreshed. I’m refreshing. Life is a confusing maze of misery with a few sun-spackled rays of light bursting through the tall trees. Cage and Caine tackle the impossible, dreadful parental. Camel toes, Canadian trade winds and Wendy’s frostys are explored. Don’t forget the tartar sauce because nothing that has meaning is easy. Bob Seger holds the meaning of life in his hairy, sweaty hands. I’m fast food. My 2nd visit to the Hensarling! Podcast. After one of the the darkest months of my life, we had a much needed laugh. I’m forever grateful. I’m also bumping The Weather Man up to a full five bags o’ corn. We also talk about Kevin Costner even though I still don’t care for Bull Durham. the best part of watching this was discovering that there’s a track in the score called “Visions of SpongeBob”. Thank you Hans Zimmer.

Such a great Nicolas cage performance we got and he’s great here and the midlife crisis his character goes through here is perfectly portrayed by cage. It’s mostly bleak and there’s a lack of hope for cage in this film dealing with a very effective working life but a poor jumbled personal life plagued by his many errors. It’s just overall a great character study and cage instead of being his normal over the top self gives a more subtle deep performance here dare I say a performance of beauty. The way he plays this layered character is applaudable we mostly get to know his character through his narration and through that the loss of hope and his failed attempts…

Nicolas Cage internal monologue movies are in fact a sub-genre … one that I love dearly. “David, I’ve practiced and I’ve gotten good. Like you and the weather business … But I don’t predict it. Nobody does, ’cause i-it’s just wind. It’s wind. It blows all over the place! What the fuck!” It is scary just how relatable I find this story about a TV weatherman undergoing an existential/family/mid-life crisis. Director Gore Verbinski’s The Weather Man is a somber yet amusing look at a guy that is good at what he does but lets his marriage fall apart, and struggles with living in what he sees as the shadow of his father’s success. He is the kinda guy who thinks…

STARRING: NIC FUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKIIIIIIING!!!!! CAGE (THE COPPOLA SAGA) Okay, but what are the odds? Cage was featured in two movies with “Vegas” in the title and then went on to do two movies with “Man” in the title. And in both, the first one was like a cheerful film, whereas the other has Cage playing a depressed character in a pretty downbeat movie?! But yeah, this was a great movie but absolutely not one I would recommend under no condition to watch on a gloomy day where you’re feeling miserable. David Spritz is a man whose life seems to live under Murphy’s Law. A successful man with the worst luck ever; even when things seem to go his way, s**t will…

Watched this w da goats. I enjoyed the change in Cage’s usual character, going from an ecstatic character to one with grounded vulnerability. Caine’s acting really highlighted the emotional weight that was on Spritz’s shoulder for being a successor to a Pulitzer Prize winning father. I was not the biggest fan of David’s decisions in how he decided to tackle things n how had this issue in thinking that he was the only one that had these issues. To put…

The last time I saw this was around 10 years ago with some friends. Naturally out in the numbers, running around the neighborhood going to garage sales is one of the few forms of entertainment for high schoolers without a car. We found this (because Cage= funny) along with Kindergarten Cop and ran back up to my house to watch it together on the floor with my crusty laptop. We all still remember being jumped by the Abraham Lincoln sex…

People don’t throw things at me any more, Maybe because I carry a bow around.

Unintentionally joined my brother on his Nic Cage binge… unexpectedly worth it with this one. At times funny in a very grounded narrative, this movie left me equal parts satisfied and spiraling. Thinking about agency and intentionality even as everything changes around you.

“I’m fast food” relatable But can we talk about Cage’s performance though?? Seriously out of every movie I’ve watched of him it might be one of his best, but has Dave already thought about being checked for adhd btw? Tartar sauce.

Saw this back in 2006 or so. I was staying at a production house in Pickering during the shoot for a film I co wrote called A Life Less Gone. I like to look back and reflect on viewing experiences and never knowing if I’ll remember the room I was in or the couch I was sitting on but for some reason the experience of watching it lasted more than the film itself. I had a few flickers of scenes…

Bro bought coffee from Arby’s. Nicolas Cage (Ghost Rider) was so good in this oddly depressive heartwarming story featuring masterclass camel toe dialogue from Michael Caine (Alfred) Shoutout legendary Northeast Ohio Weatherman Dick Goddard I like to imagine this was about his life if you don’t know him Google him and learn about Woollybear Fest if that’s a rabbit hole you’re willing to go down RIP Big Dick

Not really a fan of movies where everyone absolutely hates the main character. Like, ok yeah, he is a self-sabotazing dildo, but I don’t think it justifies the hate from the people who know him and especially the ones who don’t. There are some fun lines, some cool images (Chicago in snow and Nic Cage with a bow are standouts) and of course Nic is delivering as always. The story doesn’t really deliver tho and feels like it wasn’t begging…

“أنها رياح، تهب في كل مكان” فيلم غريب بس دافي، رغم برودة. صعب أوصف الفيلم، لان زي ماهو واضح، يتكلم عن أزمة منتصف العمر مع فرصة العمر، و كيف رجل لازم تعامل مع الاثنين. التمثيل ممتاز و الموسيقي التصويرية بشكل غريب جداً ممتازه و مميزة. التصوير برضو كان حاد و مع ذالك جميل.

One of the weirdest things I’ve ever seen. The tone ends up being a lot more tolerable than the saccharine dreck I was expecting from Steve Conrad’s other writing credits (Wonder, The Pursuit of Happyness, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty), but have straight up no clue why Paramount, Gore, or really anyone felt compelled to put their chips down on this strangely dour and offbeat drama, let alone sandwiched between two Pirates movies. This sort of felt like if you…

Decided to finish watching all of Gore Verbinski’s filmography, and The Weather Man was the last one on the list. I’m pretty sure this was one of the last movies where Nicolas Cage was still considered a respectable actor all the way back in 2005. I never expected to watch Michael Caine having to explain to NCage what a camel toe is, yet here we are. The score is by Hans Zimmer, and there’s a track called “Something About Bob.” I refuse to believe he didn’t spend at least five minutes considering calling it “Something About SpongeBob” before chickening out.
