83 Yeah, I loved it. Yeah, I almost cried. Yeah, I know it’s an American remake of Les Intouchables. No I haven’t seen it. Yes I’m planning to very soon. Yes, I genuinely loved this and had a blast watching this with my dad. Who are you to judge?

As a big fan of the 2011 French version, I was very happy to see that they were making a new one, especially with the casting of Kevin Hart and Bryan Cranston. Their on screen chemistry is unquestioned. Coming into it, I was looking for every reason for it not to be as good as the 2011 version… but it’s pretty close. I’d have to rewatch it but I loved both films. They both did it their own way and I kinda liked direction The Upside went with… while I liked how more natural The Intouchables felt… it didn’t feel like they were acting. A lot of reviews bashing this saying it wasn’t as good as the original… well… even…

This was better than I thought it would be. I usually find remakes inferior. This was to a certain degree, but at least it was mostly a thoughtful remake (of the French film, Intouchables). What I didn’t like: It followed several erroneous stereotypes regarding African Americans. Kevin Hart’s character was recently released from prison. He’s broke. He’s trying to see his son that he had neglected for many years. He was a former drug dealer. He’s street smart as opposed to book smart. Yadda yadda. What I did like: Several of the situations and one-liners were funny. Most of the acting was good, despite the fact that I do prefer Omar Sy and François Cluzet to Kevin Hart and Bryan Cranston. 6.5/10 Vegan alert: -Burgers are shown sizzling on the grill in a fast food restaurant. -Bryan Cranston’s character orders over 15 hot dogs at a diner. -At a fine dining restaurant, some steak and shrimp were shown.

THE UPSIDE is everything you fear it is…Poorly shot, written & directed. Far too many moments that make you feel uncomfortable due to recent events surrounding the principle actors in the movie…with the exception of Kidman, who’s just wasted which feels like its own crime in it of itself. Utterly predictable & schmaltzy. Stick to the original foreign film if anything.

Some people will never watch a foreign language movie no matter how much you rave about how great it is, which is why there will always be Hollywoodized versions of hit foreign language movies. The Intouchables was a great movie, no doubt, but The Upside manages to hold its own by going in slightly different directions, and adding more humor. Bryan Cranston is solid as the wealthy quadriplegic, bringing both the dignity and determination needed for such a role. However, it’s Kevin Hart’s movie, for the most part. He is the character we follow the closest and the one who leads us into this story. And he’s funny! Really funny. Kevin Hart has never been as loveable on screen before…

Wow bloody good movie. MVP goes to Kevin. Fair play bro. Bludclart goes to the penpal. If you know you know she did him dirty. Baddie goes to the ginger lady. She will do for now. Bloody good movie. I think what didn’t for me was the story it was very entertaining and the characters development very good. The fact that Kevin was able to bring the old guys perspective back despite what he’s went through is amazing. Great chemistry…

You will LOVE it if you haven’t seen Intouchables (what an excellent French film!). For me, this remake is so unncessary and Kevin Hart doesn’t have the charm and sweetness of the great Omar Sy. But, at least it’s not too bad.

Had absolutely no business being as good as it was. Bryan Cranston is so damn good and so charming in his unique way. However, I was most impressed with Kevin Hart. Yes at times you can see the Kevin Hartisms in it but he really held his own with some Hollywood giants. I lowkey want to see more roles like this for him. Nicole Kidman is Nicole Kidman she never disappoints me. She was so good as a complimentary role.…

This is a remake of the 2011 French comedy, The Intouchables, and for the past decade, various different attempts to make an English remake came and went, the most notable one being one with David O’ Russell directing with Robert De Niro and Chris Tucker to star, this was coming shortly after The Silver Linings’ Playbook’s release, but there were also versions with Chris Rock, Jamie Foxx, Idris Elba, Colin Firth, Jessica Chastain and Michelle Williams to star and Paul…

Go watch this movie. Everything about this movie was really good. There wasn’t a single critique that I could think of while watching it. The character development by both Philip and Dell throughout the movie was great, along with the growth of their friendship as the movie progressed. I found the comedy in the movie from Dell played by Kevin Heart rarely ever missed and I was constantly watching the movie with a smile on my face. Each character within the movie had a purpose with none of them being put in without any insignificance. Great movie.
