Gillian Anderson exudes so much Big Dick Energy in this she could take down an army of men.

there’s a scene in this movie where mila kunis is backstage having an extreneous conversation while kate mckinnon is literally fist fighting an assasin on a trapeze and that’s perfect metaphor for her doing all the heavy lifting in every horribly scripted comedy she’s in

It’s hard to laugh in the comedy scenes when they are followed by scenes like the one where a thumb is being severed with a pocket knife. Kate McKinnon was, like character said to her character, a bit much. She’s okay in small doses, but a whole movie of her is painfully annoying. The action in the film is pretty good at times and rather bland at other times.

Gillian Anderson letterboxd project: #8 Yeah this is my other August project, for the build up of ‘Camp Miasma’ I’ll be diving into Gillian’s feature length career. ‘The Spy Who Dumped Me’ is serviceable film in terms of entertainment value but really? I enjoy seeing McKinnon but Kunis just is so dull imo despite her having moments. You know Gillian steals the show here, every scene she’s in she’s stellar in every scene and puts in that bitchy sass into…

Pretty fun, if overlong. Playing the spy stuff relatively straight and letting the humor come from two messy friends dropped into an espionage thriller is the right call. Some good practical action sequences, and McKinnon and Kunis are charming. This could have been a real slog with less likable leads.

this was god awful!! there was no point to this movie, it had nothing special or original to offer to the action genre felt like there was no plot, the big threat wasn’t that serious or dramatic and there were a lot of bad storytelling & editing decisions there is no reason to watch this, there is no reason for it to have even been made! and now i’m losing my mind reading all these old reviews of so many people actually liking it?!?! wtf is going on!

Even with it making back its budget, it’s a shame that the success of The Spy Who Dumped Me didn’t lead to a franchise. There have been worse movies that spawned sequels and franchises (probably Divergent at the top of mind), but the action/comedy blend is actually better than I thought it would be and what the Letterboxd average would indicate. The storyline with a thumb drive pulls Audrey (Mila Kunis) and her friend Morgan Freeman (Kate McKinnon) into a…

     – Pretty fun watch. Nothing extraordinary, but entertaining and enjoyable. – Kate McKinnon shouldn’t be allowed to play straight characters though. – The male ball sack scene was a jumpscare. – Nice chemistry between the cast.

It wasn’t bad, quite funny in places. Not as good as Spy. Surprised to see: Gillian Anderson, Jane Curtin and James Fleet. The name Albright was mentioned as one point, that can’t have been a coincidence.
