   Relatively unreconstructed and a brisk 88 minutes. Even if there’s not much to this it’s nice to see a straightforward revenge western with few revisionist tendencies. The doses of grisly violence, South Africa standing in for the Old West, the international cast, the simple narrative, and the vague anti-capitalist threads all place this pretty squarely in the German strain of spaghetti western offshoots. It’s easy to imagine this with, say, Klaus Kinski and Gianni Garko. Although Nieves Navarro (just to pick a name at random) would never have been able to pull off what you get here from the increasingly incomparable Eva Green.

Eva não pronuncia uma unidade de palavra no filme, ela interpreta uma muda que conheceu todas as formas de violência, já o personagem de Mads é alguém que apesar de viver na rudeza e violência do meio oeste americano é apresentado a pior delas na chegada de sua família, assim começa um filme de vingança no faroeste americano.

On the way to his homestead, his family is killed and he puts down the murderers. Unfortunately, the dead man is the brother of a psychotic land Baron (Jeffery Dean Morgan) and all hell breaks loose. This is a very solid Danish western. Though it doesn’t bring anything new to the table, it has a somewhat fresh perspective by not being themed as through the eyes of an American.    A tooth for a tooth, an eye for an eye. As a sucker for both westerns and Mads Mikkelsen, The Salvation didn’t have to try too hard to please me. But regardless, the film presents the long established tropes of revenge, retribution, and the lawful good man versus the sinister evil figure in a fiery shootout. And even with these age old building blocks of story-building — as old as the genre of western itself — The Salvation manages to bring some vigour and new ideas into the now feeble arena of current western films, a genre that once teemed with life and defined the Hollywood scene. Mikkelsen plays the protagonist, Jon: a dane who had fought as a soldier…

    What a Fantastic Revenge Western! I’m always looking for good recently made Westerns, for some reason they are harder to find and are a dime a dozen. Mads Milkensen and Jeffery Dean Morgan are perfectly cast. An Epic frontier tale, beautiful cinematography, Set Direction and Costume Design. The colors really pop in this film.

    Knew this was a little cooked when I saw all the danish national endowment credits at the beginning. They just didn’t have the production juice like that back in 2014 and the CGI oil derricks at the end certainly didn’t prove me wrong. Mads totally innocent as always. Mikael Persbrandt was my lowkey MVP. Eva Green! Now there’s a name I haven’t heard in sometime. I remember she went stupid in 300: Rise of an Empire. I gotta rewatch that.…

    I’m a sucker for Mads Mikkelsen films so this movie was a must-see. Short, about an hour and a half. Not much talking. The acting does the talking. Plenty of epic western shootouts. A “classic” western movie, worth a watch.

    Var að búast við epískum senum með Mads sem kúreka. Sérstaklega miðað við hvað vondu kallarnir gerðu við hann, en mér fannst epíkin ekki koma til skila. Atriðið sem ég var mest hrifinn af var leikið af Mikael sem leikur bróðir Mads. 4/10

I had already gotten that after the first half of the film, but his scene with Madelaine just sold it. “You felt that, didn’t you?
