ben stiller’s delivery of the line “i’ve had a rough year, dad” gets me teary eyed every damn time i honestly adore this movie and i wanna thank wes anderson’s gentle soul for continuing to fuck me the fuck up with his aesthetically fulfilling, sad ass movies

ok so i read an article about the tenenbaum children and it theorized that when they become adults and grow apart they start to realize that they’re actually not as special as they thought they were when they were kids and everyone adored them, and that this acknowledgment damages each of them in its own way and i think that’s kind of what happens to all of us in life on a certain level??? that’s so fucking beautiful

“Anybody interested in grabbing a couple burgers and hittin’ the cemetery?” Knew I would love this but holy hell I loved this just paced so well and handles it’s tone changes so smoothly. Also funny as piss and just delightful. Richie Tenenbaum prolly top 35 all time

A beautiful story of redemptioon I love watching Wes Anderson’s style develop in his earlier films. It wasn’t too extreme yet while he was still just an amateur on his third major film. I love his style but I personally prefer his earlier films where it was way more toned down. The soundtrack is perfect, his iconic cinematography is always great, and the balance between comedy is drama is done incredibly well. I’m a big fan of the Wilson brothers which makes Wes Anderson’s earlier films so much more fun since it feels like they’re in all of them.

An amazing family drama. It’s full of great acting performances, and has a great set of characters. Character growth is extraordinary. Two things i heavily dislike about this movie are the gypsy taxi and that the assistants are only people of color. It feels like it pushes white supremacy, but maybe it’s just a critique about it? Idk, but if you push that aside it’s a great movie.

Can a few months of “making it right” and repairing relationships mend decades of neglect and abandonment? Thank heavens this movie did not answer that question. •••••••• ꧁ ༺ ⚜ ༻ ꧂ •••••••• JUSTICE FOR BUCKLEY! I have to give it to Wes Anderson, the aesthetics of this movie are amazing, from the set design to the costumes and even the cinematography. It took such dark topics and showed it as unusually bright . I enjoyed how they showed that…

Wes Anderson’s colour palette and visuals are always a stand out. Perfectly centred shots and carefully designed sets make almost every scene feel like a painting. The dry humour and weirdness to his movies are always an easy watch.

Genuinely how do you come up with something like this. Wes Anderson is a genius. Everything is so unique. His character writing is unmatched and then add in his all star casts. This is just good. It’s so different than anything else I’ve seen. For anyone that says Wes Anderson films don’t have any emotion or don’t connect, that is a lie. They are very emotional deep films but they’re just subtle. This one made me crazy. Great soundtrack. I really like this, that’s all I can say. Wes Anderson filmography has been completed.

The colour scheme is gorgeous, if more muted than Anderson’s later films. The dialogue is more hard hitting than other projects (“I’ve had a rough year” punched a hole in my chest). I haven’t seen every Wes Anderson film but I’m confident to say this is one of my favourites by him.

Honestly my family gatherings don’t look too different. in all regards this movie is shot too good. it’s kind of unsettling. there’s not a scene that i didn’t enjoy watching from a visual standpoint, literally NOT ONE. and the coloring is extremely subtle, and Absurdly well done. the writing is genuinely something that made me seethe because it’s Also, in the same vain as the cinematography, so damn fucking good. all these characters are so damn unique and so much…

Royal Tenenbaums Wes’s melancholic, humanistic, cathartic masterpiece. It’s his best written and directed film, every detail about this film feels so authentic, I don’t know how else to describe it, it had all the quirkiness of his typically style but done more delicately. It’s a beautiful exploration of how we as people are depraved for attachment, how we need each other to cope and survive, but done in such a quirky, non overly sentimental but genuine, heartfelt and comedic way,…

Wes Anderson is a genius The character development in this movie is amazing Such a quirky movie as expected from Wes Anderson I do think the first half lets the movie down a tiny bit but that made the second half better High 4 to a low 4.5 Acc lll give it a 4.5
-
C
This was similar to my first Wes Anderson experience (The Life Aquatic) in many ways: humour, aesthetics, quirkiness, and the confusing nature of everyone’s motives. My dream for the target audience (children who experience adult praise for something that loses its meaning in adulthood) is that they eventually let go of their youthful success and live the rest of their lives with a sense of cooperative enjoyment.

damn i didnt wanna like it, but im such a sucker for a dysfunctional family movie. “im gonna kill myself tmrw”

M
I’m not the biggest Wes Anderson fan, but I do tend to enjoy his earlier works more. This kinda proved that for me. His style is clearly evident but it’s not beating you over the head with it like Asteroid City, French Dispatch, or Phoenician Scheme. Feels less pretentious. Each character is very alive, no matter how little screen time they get. I think it’s the perfect amount of characters that they don’t get lost in the mess. Overall it’s a comfort movie that’s riddled with tragedies and a perfect example of Wes Anderson on his A-game.

Final act is superb. It all looks incredible and unlike anything else besides a Wes Anderson movie. Royal calling Margot his daughter and him visiting Chas’s wife’s grave instead of his mother’s are great details. I didn’t really care about the characters until the 3rd act, and the story felt pretty surface level and fake. I would watch it again tho

This is genuinely such a beautifu emotional and surprisingly sad film the stunning colour scheme and cinematography make every frame feel like a carefully constructed painting but underneath all of the visual perfection, there’s so much genuine emotion I felt that the characters were incredibly real and flawed, which makes it so easy to become emotionally attached to them and genuinely care about what happens to them There’s something so bittersweet about the whole film it can be hilarious and…

I do love the song wigwam but the film is a bit long for me. Very funny dialogue which is par for the course for the wilson/Anderson joints I’ve seen

A wonderful festival of dysfunction; Anderson’s family dramedy is immersive melancholy, heartbreaking and yet so uplifting with its beautiful writing, cinematography, music and ensemble, Hackman and Murray being absolute standouts. 10/10

Great film, although tbh I’m not a fan of the whole incest plotline. The dark scene midway through the movie is excellent(dont want to spoil it) and would have been incredibly cool in a more identity focused story, instead of the romance one we see here. The rest of the film is nice and a good vibe tho.

I love Wes Anderson, I would say as much as the next but this film made me think maybe I don’t? Sometimes I think i’m not performative enough to have a letterboxd account and I think my rating of this film proves it. I think it is the worst Wes Anderson film I have watched, I can appreciate the wider meaning of each kid growing up and realising they aren’t special. I can appreciate the cinematography and unique style Anderson has. But this one just didn’t hit for me and I have disappointed myself with that. 3.5/5 ⭐️

Watched @ Hi-Pointe I love this movie. One of my absolute favs. “Is it dark? Of course it’s dark, it’s a suicide note.” “I don’t think you’re an asshole, Royal. I just think you’re kind of a son of a bitch.“ The scene of Bill Murray yelling out “Well, I want to die” also lives rent free in my head.
- 剧情简介
- Royal Tenenbaum and his wife Etheline had three children and then they separated. All three children are extraordinary --- all geniuses. Virtually all memory of the brilliance of the young Tenenbaums was subsequently erased by two decades of betrayal, failure, and disaster. Most of this was generally considered to be their father's fault. "The Royal Tenenbaums" is the story of the family's sudden, unexpected reunion one recent winter.
