No one has ever said “I… am a librarian!” with more swelling, beatific pride than Rachel Weisz in this movie.

Honestly shocked it’s taken me this long to watch this. Apologies to my ex who insisted I have to see this! The exact type of goofball quest/adventure blockbuster I’ve craved, the type that died with the rise of the superhero movie the very next year. Brendan Fraser is hot, Rachel Weisz is hot, the structure of the “putting the team together” set up is a chef’s kiss, and the man that I confidently asserted to my friend Celia as “definitely Billy Zane” is not at all Billy Zane. My dog wouldn’t stop farting through it all. Movies have the power to change the world!

I like that the Mummy’s #1 superpower is the ability to make his lower jaw like two feet long

A cult classic from 1999 and it’s insane how good it still looks. The effects are genuinely crazy. The scarabs eating ppl, the desert storm, imhotep’s face through the sandstorm and some of these scenes still make me wonder how they pulled them off back then The Arabian style score is another thing I love about this movie. Whether it’s a horror scene or a romantic moment or something thrilling, it just fits the scene so well. The horror, adventure and egyptian mythology all work so well together

Now this is a film i´ve seen a gajillions of times as a child… This is a film that came during that horror-action adventure cycle of films that striked in the 90s and mid 2000s, that initiated with Francis Ford Coppola´s Dracula in 1992 and culminated with Stephen Sommers´s Van Helsing in 2004 The comparisons to Indiana Jones make sense since both films take place in egypt during archeological settings…I never realized, but just like there was a time Both…

I have no memory of watching it the first time so this was a treat. It’s simultaneously fun and serious and goofy and pretty good all at the same time, lots of good moments and unintentionally hilarious dialogue throughout. Peak Brendan Frasier.

Only remake I accept is everything stays exactly the same except the writers like women and Jonathan is played by Alan Cumming or Jimmy Stewart
