my sister who is studying graphic design @ uni told me that apparently the reason the effects in this movie are so fuckgin BAD is because the studio demanded the graphic artists finish the movie in a tiny tiny period of time so they all worked like 20 hour days but eventually they were like “please can you change the release date it won’t be properly finished” and the studio resolutely refused so they were like FINE we are going to STICK DWAYNE THE PEBBLE JOHNSON’S HEAD on this SMOOTH FLESHY SCORPION and WALK AWAY. Like the Indiana Jones films that this franchise follows in the footsteps of, the second movie has more buckwild set pieces and more of the racism/orientalism that the first movie was mostly able to sidestep. The problem is that the rickety CGI here is far more impeachable than Spielberg. On the down side: this time there’s a kid. On the up side: this time there’s The Rock.

I remembered liking this a lot more… I found it rather boring TBH… but Rachel Weisz is a literal goddess here, I mean what an absolutely stunning woman!!!! And I love my boy Oded Fehr (Ardeth Bay), between him & Evelyn they are why I kept it on the whole time. I am not a Jonathan fan… I know he is supposed to be a bumbling idiot…. But he’s just a dumbass. lol. Oh, and The Scorpion King/TheRock mashup at the end is truly something to behold!! lol. The Mummy Returns (2001) 4/10

Aw hell nah the mummy is back. it’s kinda interesting that they made the Scorpion King like a all powerful figure with both sides racing to see who can claim victory and access to the eternal Anubis army. The CG was a bit rough (especially on The Rock at the end omg) but overall another pretty fun movie, although I think I liked the first one a little more.

Once again peak Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz, I just love them so much and so glad we get to see them again in a second movie. I also watched this a million times as a kid and the sequel is almost as good as the original tbh. More of the same fun, adventure, thrill and squad, that Imhotep dude really is back and I lowkey like him LOL. Anck-su-namun kinda being a main character here is pretty cool too.…

When a sequel manages to surpass the original, at least for me, and one of the massive highlights is Silvestri’s godly score which is just beautiful! Having Evelyn be a reincarnated Nefertiri from Anck-Su Namun and Imhotep’s time was a damn good twist. Of course that ugly CCI Dwayne Johnson Scorpion King is horrible but doesn’t ruin the film. Can’t wait to get the gang back next year with the new Mummy film!

They really don’t make movies like this anymore. The main cast has such great chemistry, and it’s only gotten better since the first film. Honestly, I think this is even better than The Mummy. The action is fantastic, the soundtrack is incredible, and the whole movie is just a lot of fun. The only thing keeping it from a five-star rating is the absolutely ridiculous CGI for Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as the Scorpion King. It’s almost impressive how bad it looks.
