I absolutely love this film. It’s quite close to 5/5 for me. Gripping from start to finish, deeply thoughtful, iconic cinematography and editing.

The plot was the most interesting aspect of this entire movie, with amazing camera work, choreography, and scenes with shirtless Keanu Reeves. I believe The Matrix popularized the most intriguing and the most terrifying theory regarding human consciousness, and it showcased it with great storytelling. Alongside shirtless Keanu Reeves, The Matrix is an enjoyable cinematic experience that may leave you in existential dread.

Finally got around to this one and I can see why it’s garnered all of this hype and praise. All of the action sequences are fantastic. Truly some of the most expertly executed action sequences I’ve seen in a long time. The cinematography still holds up, particularly the lighting and deep contrasts. The story as well is something I haven’t seen in a lot of modern action films.

To this day one of the best action movies every made. Tense and well paced as expected with some great fight scenes and mind blowing cgi for its time. So many iconic lines that still give me goose bumps when I hear them. The acting is a little spotty but who cares when they’re wrapped in leather and doing sick cartwheels. Pretty peak in my opinion.

Watching this in cinemas in 1999 was like seeing a revolution in 24FPS. I distinctly remember my Dad, a film buff who worked in the industry for many years, guffawing with glee at several of the best moments in the film. His reaction to it is so burnt into my subconscious that I react similarly when I see anything that is shockingly entertaining and unexpected on screen. Changed action cinema forever, this did.

@VIFF, 90s baby! Another one I haven’t seen in decades. Though when it came out I was living somewhere that didn’t really show American movies in theaters so I had to watch a VCD of it on a modded PlayStation. Finally seeing it in theaters was fantastic, but it definitely doesn’t hold up like I thought it would. Really thought there was more to the plot? Have to assume people laughed at more tonight than they probably did in 1999.

9.2/10 I’m sure most people have seen this movie and know what I mean when I say it is fucking badass! I’ve seen it before when I was a little kid so don’t remember nothing. The acting and action are top notch. Bad ass story that really gets you thinking. Ahead of its time for 1999.
