No surprise from the Wachowskis that this is unflinchingly committed to being itself. Few major studio franchise sequels are so unabashedly personal and often frustratingly idiosyncratic. Yet at its very worst it’s merely inelegant, the not-infrequently comic portent offset by sheer ambition and technical craft. Speaking of which, it’s so easy to forget just how much of this is practical. Fine, set aside the dated digital doubling in the Burly Brawl fight; the remainder of the sequence is damn near a miracle, spinning the camera around 5-10 performers at a time, with as few as maybe 15 cuts a minute. I won’t even go into the freeway sequence.

The Matrix is so well paced and lean and The Matrix Reloaded is like “how’s tank and dozer’s sister’s marriage doing?”

when people said to me, “The Matrix Reloaded is the one with the twins,” I didn’t realize those were the twins. has there ever been a bad Wachowskis setpiece? plenty to like here: I laughed out loud at the dominoes (bowling pins?) foley when Neo knocks over all the Smiths. it’s cool that this Matrix movie introduces the concept of “France”

The most telling scene on rewatch is that electronic rave montage; a sea of white, brown, and black bodies moving, sweating, grabbing each other, expressing a sense of kinetic freedom… Wachowski sisters, better than most, understand that a vital element of compelling action (that freeway set piece is still undoubtedly an all-timer) is truly understanding what our heroes are fighting for. okay I… get why this has a mixed reception! it took an extremely unique and groundbreaking piece of science fiction filmmaking and then added some Farscape to the mix. or at least, I think so. I don’t know what actually happens in Farscape. That’s just the name that comes to mind when I think of a random daytime sci-fi show I’d stumble on at a friend’s place in the 2000s because their cable channels aren’t the same as mine. What was going on in the early 2000s that we decided to add political councils to all our greatest sci-fi universes? Left me with a lot of questions, this one. Like: okay, Superman exists in the Matrix? That guy programmed a…

Less of an epoch-defining movie, as its predecessor was, and more of a standard action movie, but with great shots

Siistimpi, kunnianhimoisempi ja fiksumpi kuin edeltäjänsä. Sisältää ehkä parhaan takaa-ajo kohtauksen ikinä. Vähän lame cliffhangeri valitettavasti.

“The problem is choice.” Reloaded takes the first film’s freedom fantasy and quietly detonates it. Neo discovers that even rebellion may have been anticipated. The Architect reveals that the Matrix has failed before, Zion has been destroyed before, and the “One” itself is part of a recurring system designed to control the very people who think they’re escaping it. That makes the Oracle and the Architect fascinating opposites: equation versus intuition, prediction versus possibility, control versus choice. And suddenly the…

not a great sequel, focuses too much on other irrelevant and pointless story arcs such as tribes and meaningless journeys up until the last quarter of the movie, which was absolute cinema

no hay mejor escena que morfeo con una katana cortando una Chevrolet Avalanche y disparandole con una Glock 18 para que termine en una explosión gigante. Hell yeah. Muy filosófica sobre el libre albedrío, causalidad, control, etc etc

This one is still super epic and the amount of power that Neo has in this is so cool to watch. I mean he literally saves Trinitiy. Mr. Smith is just bonkers changing everything in sight into him. But he has power I’ll give him that. The rave sex scene was actually so cool to see. It has such an energy. I love Neo and Trinity’s love for each other. They are incredible.

I know this movie is not perfect, but goddamn that highway scene aged like a fine wine. It’s up there all time. The major complaints are the special effects and use of cgi versus practical. Also the plot is kind of confusing and that rave/sex scene, ok wtf. But still it’s a good enough sequel for me. Seeing Morpheus fight on top of a semi truck wearing his signature dark rich plum pants and suit with gators on is absurdly bad ass. They made Neo a little too overpowered in this one. Otherwise I think it would’ve been talked about more.

Straight up just one of the coolest movies ever made. So stylish. So sexy. Some of the series peak action moments are here.

The keymaker made this movie 🔑 just the way he ran with his cute little legs. But he was just a program and he will always be a program.

I know this movie is a total downgrade from the first in terms of story, but man it kicks ass in terms of action. One of the best car scene chases I’ve ever seen.

The problem is twofold. 1) They increased the usage of CGI which made sense in the context of the time and the sequel needs to amp everything up to 11 with stunts that just aren’t possible for humans to do. Its only distracting during human fight scenes really 2) They amped up the action so much, the issues isn’t the amount of action scenes, but the sheer length of them. You get to the point you zone out after 5 min of uninterrupted action with no dialogue. It just cant possibly live up to the hype of the first movie

Ages way way way way better than you’d expect. You only really remember the bad scenes. The ones you forgot are so good.

WHY IS THIS MOVIE SO FREAKY
-
D
The blank-check scale of this sequel is bonkers in a way you could only get when the first movie became an out-and-out phenomenon, and most of the big action sequences that we got here as a result of that are truly astounding… (although I’ll never forgive the end of the Burly Brawl’s awful cartoonish CGI animation. I still wish that the Wachowskis had focused on just making this movie, instead of working on two sequels at once… and yet, this…

Some really cool moments here! Zion, the highway chase, the campiness all imply a fun, enjoyably dated romp but the long, meadanering psudeo-intellectual scenes all supposedly discussing the concept of “free will” are tiring and stupid. An awful lot of words to say a whole load of nothing. Sometimes this it approaches the “so bad it’s good” territory, like when the information broker food scene (iykyk) but mostly it reads like a 14 year olds report on their philosophy module.…

Scènes de combats bien trop longues (plus longues encore) qui viennent casser un scénario incroyable

Rewatching this as an adult and realizing 15-year-old me understood absolutely none of the Architect scene. I really thought I was following along too.
