A 2-hour exercise in reminding me of not one, but two vastly superior films. The big shootout at the end was pretty cool though.

The Magnificent Seven surprised me. It pays homage to Seven Samurai and the the 1960 version of The Magnificent Seven, but it does it in a way that’s not so obvious. This is a fresh reboot with its own story. This isn’t a Denzel driven story, it’s an ensemble cast, with each of the Seven, having more than one moment to shine. I didn’t want any of them to die. Denzel was born to be a cowboy. Of course Fuqua is going to direct him like a pro. Chris Pratt plays Cowboy Star-Lord. Most of his jokes hit. Ethan Hawke has the most complex story. Surprisingly, probably my least favorite of the Seven. Byung-hun Lee is lights out. This movie…

It would be hard to mess up a remake of “The Magnificent Seven,” but it might be even harder to remake it in a way that allows the premise of John Sturges’ iconic Western — itself a remake of Akira Kurosawa’s “Seven Samurai” — to feel newly relevant. Sturges’ film may be found wanting when compared to its monumental source material, but simply transplanting the action from 16th Century Japan to the Wild West gave it a life of its own. This year’s version doesn’t have the benefit of such an obvious paradigm shift, in part because this year’s Hollywood wouldn’t dare make audiences work that hard. And yet, despite being directed by the singularly bland Antoine Fuqua (whose post-“Training…

Starring: King Kong Ain’t Got Sh!t On Denzel This may sound sacrilegious, but I have to say that after seeing the original a few years ago and this one again, I think I prefer this one. In some ways, I find that this movie is more tightly focused, and the pace is noticeably better. Even though I have a hazy recollection of the original, I vaguely remember disliking how slow the plot moved. The cinematography by Mauro Fiore is equally impressive, with endless beautiful shots like the ones where our heroes ride into town and are silhouetted against the sun The cast of the 1960s film is indisputably excellent, featuring a who’s who of film legends from the era. The…

É um bom remake da adaptação de Sete Samurais, não tem aquela mesma sensação das coisas se desenvolvendo aos poucos e de forma gradual, mas ainda é legal de acompanhar a jornada e te prende bem.

I’m not really one for westerns but this was pretty good. I have to say I was not expecting the majority of the characters to die.

This movie is definitely not bad at all—in fact, I think it is really good. I have always been a fan of cowboy movies, so this one is right up my alley. The action is absolutely crazy, with gunfights, chaos, and plenty of shooting. That is exactly the kind of action I enjoy. I have watched this movie several times and still get the same satisfaction every time. It is one of those movies that I can rewatch without getting…

Synopsis: Chris Pratt and the guardians of the west protect a town against a capitalistic colonizer Review: never watched an old western before but this gives me good vibes. Very enjoyable movie and I’m going to pretend that this is what the Good, the Bad and the Ugly was like

“I believe every man got the right to choose where he dies, if he can.” This movie remains my favorite purely because of the amount of times it has been my only comfort in amidst deep, near hopeless bouts of depression. Long live the western, savior of freaks and misfits.

Good old western. Maybe it’d end better if they were called Ocean’s Seven and they’d probably end up richer too. Why am I watching so many movies with numbers in them

How did they even end up in this situation

Lee Byung-hun plays a character named Billy Rocks. And he fucking rocks. Nonsensical popcorn action-western with bland dialogue and entertaining violence. I liked the scene when Ethan Hawke and Denzel’s characters meet for the first time in the movie, and they are the only two characters with any significant background history. Made me wonder if their reunion was inspired by the actors’ own history with Fuqua on Training Day.

I do love a good old fashioned team up but this was an ok remake at best. It’s well paced but there’s no real build up on its characters to make it memorable.

For obvious reasons, I’ve been avoiding this particular adaptation (and the one from 1960) but now that I think about how not only is this movie star studded, including Denzel and Ethan collaborating with Antoine Fuqua *and Byung Hun Lee who’s obviously here because he starred in another great western adaptation, I have to say that my thoughts about the film are “Hey. That was actually not that bad. I think it was good even” Well done.

Sweet movie. All the cool shooting was dope, and in the climatic showdown there was definitely some cool stuff (don’t wanna spoil). A lot of the riding scenes were super pretty. The one thing I wish they did was add some more backstory for the Mag 7 and flesh out the world a bit more. Talk about other towns and such. Great movie! I really liked the acting and thought it was great. My kinda action movie
-
S
Rewatch – still very good

M
Pas un très bon film de Western en toute honnêteté. Juste un groupe de cowboys qui se battent ensemble pour libérer un village saupoudré de sacrifices bien hollywoodiens. Sans plus.

Gut umgesetzter moderner Western. Star-Besetzung vom aller Feinsten. Guter Score.

Truly a magnificent work; there’s no excuse for not giving it the recognition it deserves. The revenge against the scoundrel who seized the farmers, decided upon with a strong team possessing ferocity until the end to overcome suffering, with some sacrifices and a touch of sadness, but with a fitting ending. I consider it a remarkable work.
-
Z
Character development is so shallow (except for goody) that there might as well have been scarecrows standing in their place Also what happened, they show scenes then contradict them later on. Prime video was calling them out in xray mode 💀

“What we lose in the fire we will find in the ashes.” Honesty, I enjoyed this remake a bit more than the original film. To me, this characters are a little more engaging and to me that is what makes this version worthable; although no one can reach Eli Wallach’s screen presence. A shame that this was the only Western Denzel Washington starred in.
-
A
It’s hard to go wrong with a story as great as Seven Samurai, but this one still does a very good job. Denzel is the absolute standout, really carries things. It gets the extra half star because of how effectively it plays to the emotions, which is not nothing.
-
B
Pretty good and fast paced action movie. All great performances by the main seven actors.
-
A
I like Westerns, so I watched this one. This one was okay. Visually, it definitely won me over—that’s important in a Western, after all, though not everything. Story-wise, it’s pretty mid—nothing special.

Movie lost half a star for Chris Pratt but gained half a star for Billy. Super fun watch but some of the shots just look a bit strange imo.

This is a MAGNIFICENT western film. I don’t think I’ve ever watched a bad western movie, and I think they are mostly all the same. But this is a great movie. Lots of action and a great story of people coming to together to give the town their lives back. Fast paced and Denzel Washington is a tough cowboy. Watched in the living room by myself.
-
M
Just felt like another action movie. Well done but the story didn’t feel too unique. I know this was a remake of the original 1960s version, so maybe the original was better. The western vibes were cool, but the acting / story also felt a little cheesy at times. The action scenes were very entertaining though.

It stars Denzel Washington along with Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke, Vincent D’Onofrio, Lee Byung-hun, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Martin Sensmeier, Haley Bennett, Luke Grimes, and Peter Sarsgaard. “A group of gunslingers are brought together to protect a town from an industrialist.” It…

Not as bad as I thought it was going to be? Better than I thought it was going to be? I’m in sunny disposition mode so I’ll go with the latter. There’s no question that a large part of the enjoyment comes from the fun cast. Everyone does a good job. Some of them are more fun than others but solid all around. If the combination of the people in it mixed with all the expected Western iconography and tropes…

I think it’s a movie that should be watched before you die, it’s very exciting and they are really amazing gunsmiths.

Ok, hear me out, this isn’t a good western movie. But if you don’t consider it one, I think it is good. Like, yes, it’s in the West, and they’re cowboys protecting a town from a big bad industrialist, but when I think about Westerns, I just can’t imagine this. It just feels like Chris Pratt and Denzel and the crew are doing it. And while they’re all serviceable and that final battle is pretty awesome, I think it does…

Entertaining, some solid action, casting was quite good, music and photography on point. An entertaining action movie, even if nothing else.

Love Western movies. They don’t make enough of them, imo. They probably got scared after someone made that train wreck called Cowboys and Aliens with James Bond, lol.
