when the fucking ents take an entire day to have one short conversation with each other but the SECOND treebeard sees what nonsense saruman has done he just SHOUTS and those ents ZOOPED into isengard SO FAST and just start BUSTING SKULLS….. and the fact that saruman thought he was hot shit and then his entire scheme was destroyed by some SUPER OLD PISSED OFF TREES… ICONIC

and for this letterboxd installment i’d like to only discuss the 10 second clip of legolas SURFING down a full flight of STAIRS on a SHIELD while RAINING down arrows on uruk-hai… that’s real! and it took a lot of self restraint not to write that in all caps because i’m so psyched about it

The middle chapter of Peter Jackson’s adaptation of The Lord of the Rings stands as one of the best sequels ever, with deeper insights into the core characters, spectacular action and emotionally resonant moments, all while setting the pieces into motion for the epic finale. The siege of Helm’s Deep is one of the greatest battle to grace the screen, from the expert staging to the tension to the triumphant cheer worthy instances. Special shoutout to Andy Serkis’ Gollum, which set a new benchmark for computer generated characters that still stands today.

19. D

    Dylan 2026

the cgi holds up really well and andy serkis is so mf good in this so glad they changed the structure from the book and have the two storylines intercut. the osgiliath scene seems unnecessary but it’s cool to see the nazgûl up close. sam and frodo have to be fucking

TLOTR writers room: Writer 1: Looks good! Cool fight scenes; Legolas looking into the distance saying some vague shit. It looks perfect! Wait, something’s missing… Writer 2: Shit we forgot the tree subplot! Writer 1: Oh right, uhhh, just like weave it in between the exciting parts so that the audience keeps getting blue-balled. And make sure that each scene feels like absolutely nothing is progressing. You could argue it was a film technique to get the film ready for…

I don’t know how much of the movie is overall flashbacks (maybe a good amount of them weren’t in the original cut), but as everyone splits up I think they served a very good purpose. I was sorta expecting this part to suffer from the “middle book” syndrome that’s a blight for most trilogies, as the action and just overall progression of the grand story has to be put on the back burner to put all the pieces into place…

and yeahh, for me nonton LOTR 10 jam itu ga bosan sama sekali, ga ke distracts sama sekali, rasanya tuh kayak kita juga ngikutin perjalanan mereka gituu. and i also notice mata frodo udah ga seberbinar di awal film, yeah ga kaget sih ya soalnya pasti berat bebannya :(, n ak suka banget sama sam karna dia setia nemenin frodo sampe akhir ♡♡♡ i loav them a lot. NNN i think filmnya bakal selesai di gunung pas mereka terdampar aj soalnya layar udh item (ak marahq banget lhoya), untung dilanjutin ehehek. aku juga puas banget sama endingnya, POKOKNYA I PERY BERY LOAV LOTR ♡♡♡

Rewatched with my sister because she’s never seen it. Prob the least interesting of the trilogy and that battle at the end just goes on and on and on. Gollum was way more entertaining than I’ve ever found him before. I also love that my sis is going around and quoting from a 20year old film she’s just got around to watching
