It’s the little things that make a movie. It’s the writing, the directing, the performances, the cinematography, the score, the mood, the setting, the sound, the pacing, the story….It’s the little things. It’s the little things that…get you caught with a bad movie.

This is what movies are now: released directly on your TV with all the simulacra of being “good” (Oscar-winning actors, artistic sheen, intimations of psychological depth) but is actually something 30 years past its sell by date that knows just filling two hours is all it needs to do. A serial killer movie with no killer, not a single scare, interesting character, murder, thrill or twist, totally empty, we are watching the ghost of movies as a medium. Not even Denzel can save them. And Rami Malek? Get him out of here! He stinks!! Update: I remembered there was one funny scene where Denzel grabs Jared Leto’s dick.

denzel washington: “your dick is as hard as chinese arithmetic” jared: leto: “oh poop i made a boo-boo” rami malek: “what did you say?” jared leto: “poop” this movie should be included in every screenwriting syllabus. ps. it’s impossible not to bite ur lower lip while looking at rami malek — not in a horny way but because his mouth is permanently pursing like that and you just find yourself mirroring him. at the very end of the movie, you can see denzel doing the same thing with his lips — probably an involuntary reaction to spending so much time with rami.

Denzel shouting, “your dick is as hard as chinese arithmetic, why is that, huh!?” would have caused audiences to go absolutely nuts in 1997, the year I assume this was supposed to be released

This movie answers the question, “What if Se7en but without David Fincher’s stylish direction and Kevin Spacey reveals that he DIDN’T kill the young detective’s family at the end of the movie when he leads them out into the desert?”

If I described this to you you’d think it’s worse than it is, a competent but pretentious bit of hackwork that thinks its pointless ambiguities make it what the kids used to call a “character study” at the expense of both fun and its duty to genre. And as much as it pains me to say so, Denzel is actually bad in it, because he’s been allowed to phone it in, and you can see how bored he is. Discussed on Episode 65 of The Suspense is Killing Us.

Denzel Washington: “Just give me my check” Rami Malek: “This is way harder when I can’t lip sync my way through a performance” Jared Leto: “I didn’t bathe for over six months, murdered three hamsters and developed a hilarious strut in preparation for this role”

Wow I related to this so much! Especially the scene where Rami Malek and Denzel are in a car talking about how bored they are while waiting for something to happen…

I feel like everyone involved was forced into being a part of this. Except Jared Leto.

A slow-burn serial killer saga that leans into genre clichés like they haven’t been bludgeoned to death yet, John Lee Hancock’s “The Little Things” isn’t just set in 1990, it was also written in 1990. And it wasn’t just written in 1990, it still feels like it could’ve been made then, too — an unambiguous positive at a time when most straight-to-streaming fare is so cheap and glossy that it makes 20th century shlock like “Kiss the Girls” and “The Bone Collector” feel like Visconti movies by comparison. But really it’s “Se7en” that comes to feel like the most obvious antecedent of all, even if that epochal hit came out a few years after Hancock first hatched the idea for…

i actually enjoyed this, as much of a Se7en rip-off as it is. Denzel seems checked out but still ratchets up the angry divorced cop stuff to a degree that’s fun, Rami Malek is made of cardboard but looks the part, and unfortunately Jared Leto is actually super engaging considering he’s essentially playing his real life self. the score, lighting, and cinematography are very good for what they are

Mindhunter Staffel 2 in schwächer.

I didn’t really enjoy this, a bit slow and boring in parts, Jared Leto is gross in life and in this, still iffy about the ending!?! Love denzel Washington!

65/100 I enjoyed the slow burn start, but found the ending all a bit ambiguous and anticlimactic. I know that’s what was aimed for, but it fell flat for me. Denzel does seem to be phoning his performance in. Rami seems not quite right for his part. Jared is a credible weirdo though

Even though the whole concept of a cop with, let’s say, a troubled past teaming up with a young, rising detective had already been pretty much perfected by Se7en in the 90s, The Little Things still manages to make it work. What shouldn’t be forgotten is that the script was actually written in the 90s and this I could feel throughout the entire movie. It felt like watching a dark 90s crime thriller (I had a similar feeling and mood…

Jared Leto has the right level of creep in this movie and his character was quite funny at times. Quite the cast! It had a good level of build and suspense to keep you on edge, guessing what might happen next. It’s the little things that will get you caught

“Maybe, just maybe it’s a waste of time.”

Eerie, sinister and unsettling, very well performed, loved the narrative and moral ambiguity. Another Denzel home run.

Mysterious plot-line and deep themes that really resonate with real-life incidents. Was a very low key soundtrack but one that I randomly found enticing and engaging. The acting was extremely good, with interesting character arcs. However, this film felt like it was building and building but that was it. It never really reached a pinnacle and the ending felt rather anticlimactic after all the backstory that had been laid bare.

Great buildup tension and the chemistry between Denzel and Rami was one of the finest I’ve seen in a while. Leto was the icing on the cake. Felt like a few things could’ve been clearer for the audience but overall a great watch.

forgot to rate it yesterday Bit disappointed, criminal gets revealed way too quick so I thought yeah this movie isn’t about the criminal it’s something deeper and crazier, anticlimactic as hell, Hancock tried to seem mysterious and smart with the ending but he failed miserably cuz in my opinion, which is the right opinion, it stopped being a question of who did it half way through the movie, but there was a nice twist in the end, something deacon did, wasted potential this movie

I thought The Little Things was a solid crime thriller. Denzel Washington, Rami Malek, and Jared Leto all gave strong performances, and I liked the dark, unsettling atmosphere throughout the movie. The slow-burn approach worked well for building tension, although the pacing dragged a little in certain areas. I also liked that the ending wasn’t completely straightforward and left you questioning what really happened. Overall, it was an interesting mystery with a strong cast, even if the story didn’t fully deliver on all of its potential.
