here is a little bit of fucked up trivia: “when steven is at the school for the parent teacher conference, the principal tells him that kim wrote a paper on iphigenia for which she got an A, and that was read aloud to the class. iphigenia, in greek mythology, is the daughter of agamemnon — she who was to be sacrificed for the sins of her father.” yorgos lanthimos… you fucking GENIUS

I was intrigued for the first 1/3, but i never regained that interest for the remainder of the film. I know the dialogue and characters are written in that specific manner, but I just couldn’t stand it. Felt entirely lifeless, leaving it hard to make a connection to any of the characters (which majority of them I hated). It’s a very creative and unique concept that ended up being a bit of struggle to get through. On a positive note, Barry Keoghan is unreal in this. Yorgos Lanthimos Films Ranked List

I’ve been threatening to watch another Yorgos Lanthimos film for over ten years ever since I watched The Lobster back in 2015, and I’ve thought about it ever since. Whilst this one doesn’t quite reach the same highs as The Lobster did, it’s still a truly excellent film. Lanthimos’ directing style is a pleasure to watch, the cast is brilliant and the sound is excellent. There really should be more absurdism in films 🤷🏻♂️

Reszta to trochę przerost formy nad trescia. Nie mniej lubię se czasem odpalić i nie wiedzieć co obejrzałam bo mimo wszystko coś mają w sobie te filmy. Muzyka piękna gra aktorska mega cool. Wizualnie banger

“The Killing of a Sacred Deer” sees Yorgos Lanthimos strip away all of his dark absurdist humor and deliver just darkness, and it makes for one of his best films as well as one of A24’s finest efforts. A bleak and unsettling story about one man’s karma coming back to haunt him, it sees cardiovascular surgeon Steven Murphy (Colin Farrell) confronted by a mysterious teenager named Martin Lang (Barry Keoghan) who slowly rips the man’s life and family apart as…

Eh? can see why some gave this 1/2 a star. But like The Lobster I enjoyed the weirdness of this. Barry Keoghan is enough to creep me out and this was fitting. Bob was the best of the bunch and didn’t deserve his demise.

Actual Review This movie feels like a fever dream. It takes genuine skill and finesse to act in such a stilted way and read off such unnatural dialogue in a way that works. Not only that, when the acting does go up an octave (for lack of a better term), it just highlights the cruelty of the situation the main characters find themselves in. I’m of two minds about the length. About 2/3rds in, I was like “alright, wrap it…

Funny-bone-chilling movie about the worst choice anyone could ever have to make, but also about accountability and revenge more generally. The dialog is weird and stilted in a way that actually draws you into the world and makes it easier to accept some of the internal logic. I loved the use of wide-angle lenses at particularly high or low angles following people, very unsettling. It intrigues me that nobody even brings up the idea of suicide to Steven – I…

i just feel that if i wanted to talk my son into ratting on himself for malingering, i would use another method. any other method. like, quite literally any other method possible. anyways. i hated this. everything about this concept and execution was wildly uncomfortable and i am repulsed by this film. i will never watch it again and i would not recommend it to anyone i know. thats what i get for using spotify’s about the song feature for ellie goulding’s burn. 3.5/5, very good film in my (albeit uneducated) opinion.

I have absolutely no idea what the fuck I just watched, but I had a great time. The bizarre dialogue, the stiff performances and the almost mechanical behaviors aren’t distractions from the horror. *They are the horror*. Everyone seems to have lost access to the emotional vocabulary we normally use when confronted with death. Horrifying, ridiculous and somehow madly hilarious. Lanthimos, you weird bastard. I’m in.

The acting in this film is so uncanny and in a way, it makes the film so much more interesting. There’s like, this feeling that you’re watching the actors from behind a window like in a zoo. One of the most unique films I have ever watched. I am no stranger to Yorgos Lanthimos’s work, yet I was still completely taken by surprise by how perfect this film is. The dialogue, score, acting, and direction all work together to create an incredibly eerie atmosphere that persists throughout the entire film. There was not a single moment when I felt comfortable while watching this, not that this is a bad thing. In fact, I think that is precisely…

There’s a subtle coalesence between the hospital operating theatre in the opening scene that underpins this reprise of an ancient Greek tragedy, and the stifled clinicality that’s endemic to pretty much every character interaction after that. Every conversation is completely stiff and emotionally detached. While it feels open-ended due to the artificiality of it all, I think this is more a way to embellish the absurdity rather than to conceal hidden meanings. It’s a moral impasse to be taken literally…

There are so many bells and whistles hidden underneath the dialogue, it makes watching this movie almost feel like torture in the best way possible. Very few films are successful at making me feel a certain type of way while I watch them; this one’s definitely one of them. It’s somber and hopeless but very insightful, I almost wish it had gone a little deeper into the mad end. Poor boy.

📝 Previous Review I forgot how unhinged this was. The start and the end feel like different movies, in a good way. Raffey Cassidy is such an intriguing actor. Her performances usually impact me whenever I see her in anything. If I didn’t know any better, I’d say The Killing of a Sacred Deer and Bugonia are more related than we think. 82%

Everyone in this movie was freaked out except my boy, he just wanted to listen to his MP3s. Insane performance by everyone involved and I have never been so unsettled during an eating scene. Lot of symbolism and nuance in the conversations that get repeated. Glad to watch with my GF who pointed out a few discrepancies. I kinda want that watch tbf

Nah this was elite I can’t lie. There are mixed reviews when it comes to this film and I can see why. But if you see the vision this is really really good. I was on the edge of my seat for over half the movie. The camera work and score was great. Colin Farrell is super talented and Barry Keoghan is great at playing a weirdo. But I gotta be honest the wife was OD annoying. Also why did she fondle bros shit to get that info? Now that I’ve seen this I want to watch some of Yorgos other films.

barry keoghan can have my soul, first of all (anything with this goblin will get 5 stars from me). second, 😀 why tho? this entire film feels like being informed that something unspeakably horrible is going to happen to you by the world’s calmest customer service representative. nobody speaks like a human being. nobody reacts like a human being. barry eats spaghetti threateningly. immaculate. greek tragedy said your actions have consequences and yorgos lanthimos said okay but what if everyone involved was also deeply fucking weird)))
