Like with the first film, I am more than willing to step over creative liberties and narrative flaws because Jackson once again allowed me to spend time in Middle Earth. If you didn’t care for the first one, don’t torture yourself and stay home. You won’t like it. If you don’t like drawn out fantasy epics, stay home. You won’t like it. If you like Tolkien, thought the first film was flawed but ok, you’ll probably have a pretty good time as it is a much smoother ride than the first one. If you’re an infantile Tolkien fetishist that loves high fantasy adventure like me, you’ll love the everloving crap out of it. This unintended trilogy is not an adaptation…

I’m glad that the middle section of a nine hour adaption of a 300 page children’s book found time to shoe-horn in a love triangle between a dwarf whose name you don’t remember, a She-Elf whose name you don’t remember, and Orlando Bloom.

Esta película se siente tal que @grok make a film from this book.

Peter Jackson has apparently decided that *The Hobbit* can easily work as a full-fledged fantasy epic featuring dragons, orcs, elves, and about 47 parallel storylines. And damn it: it works surprisingly well. Bilbo and the dwarves reach Mirkwood, clash with giant spiders and elves, and eventually end up in Lake-town before finally reaching Erebor. There, Smaug awaits—and he is undoubtedly one of the highlights of the entire trilogy. Benedict Cumberbatch not only voices the dragon but also provided his motion-capture…

Smaug is literally so pathetic, you are a dragon, you have WINGS for god’s sake and all you choose to do is sleep for 171 years under a mountain

35. J

Shit from a dwarf’s butt! The one star is for Cumberbatch as Smaug, an excellent feat of performance and technical wonder trapped in a busy, boring and most of all charmless film completely unworthy of it. If anything it stands out just because Cumberbatch is so good you realize how boring and frustrating everything else here is by pure contrast.

59/100 Somehow, this managed to be even more disappointing for me than the first was. I guess my expectations were higher because I figured the deeper in to the story we got, the less padding for time we would have. Unfortunately, 75% of this movie drags like you wouldn’t believe, to the point where almost everything outside of the final sequence in the mountain feels like a pointless side quest. Every time Legolas or Gandalf was on screen I instantly…

Screw you, Myles, this one might actually be my favourite. (An Unexpected Journey is still the best though) The WHOLE sequence of them in the Elvenking’s halls is just delightful. Lee Pace is amazing as always, the design of the Woodland Realm is stunning, I didn’t dislike Kili and Tauriel, Bagginshield is thriving – Thorin holding out for Bilbo to save them, Bilbo freeing the Dwarves from their cells, Thorin completely trusting Bilbo to get them out of the palace…

Second fight continued my Hobbit watched. This is probs my favourite film of the trilogy but still shares the same issues as the first film but they throw Legolas at you and you know what it works for me. I am a simple man. Pros- Legolas being Legolas, Smaug is kinda sexy and actually good CGI, less cringe moments. Thranduil is so cunty. Cons- The forced fucking love story, this wasn’t needed. Bards kids calling him Da every time pisses me off so much. Still good amount of CGI slop.

Again an over hated series. I love the integration of Legolas (walk em down) of the Mirkwood Elves. A well done movie that also shows how the ring slowly starts to pull Bilbo into its spell the more he uses it, along with Thorins want to be king starting to show when they get to the mountain. I like these movies a lot and am excited for the rewatch of the battle of the five armies.

Review for the Extended Edition! Honestly, I figured the part of this trilogy where the titular dragon appears would give me more to say, but as it turns out, much of the criticisms I had about An Unexpected Journey carry over here: overproduction, overwhelming amounts of middling digital effects work, and padding writing that stretches its source material thin in order to justify a multi-part adaptation. Though, some of my praise carries over as well, namely in regards to the…

This movie is really fun. I think the dwarf lore that’s added is really interesting and necessary. I really like the design of lake town and the characters there. I think it fits the atmosphere of the book really well. I really liked all of the e dwarf and elf antics in this movie. The dragon looks amazing but some of the other graphics look not great I don’t give 2 shits about what Gandalf is doing with the necromancer and it’s so boring I hate it. Also Legolas looks terrible and old as shit he shouldn’t be in this.

A Tauriel é chatissima.…

While still slightly hamstrung by “middle chapter” narrative problems and its formidable length, The Desolation of Smaug represents a more confident, exciting second chapter for the Hobbit series.
