Hmmmm. Well. So…not sure where to begin a review for this without entering 1000 different tangents so I think it’s best if I begin this entry with a little background. Around last year in 2017 I had a family friend get killed in the Dallas area due to police brutality. If you wanna read about it you can here: http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-nation/wp/2017/05/05/texas-officer-who-killed-black-teenager-leaving-party-is-charged-with-murder/?noredirect=on&utm_term=.3cd9cb09e453. My mom even attended the funeral, although I didn’t because I knew I wouldn’t be able to bring myself to. Just last year a group of my friends were out and about driving around Huntsville (a small town here in Texas) and a cop decided to stop them because my friends tail light was out. She’s a white woman and…

“It’s the same story, just a different name” Freddie Gray Sam Dubose Philando Castile Terence Crutcher Alton Sterling Jamar Clark Breonna Taylor Rayshard Brooks George Floyd Jeremy McDole Tamir Rice Michael Brown Eric Garner… The list goes on… this is why they kneel… I was crying the whole damn movie (no, I’m not over exaggerating… this movie brought me to tears for its entire 2+ hour run time). Strong performances by Amandla Stenberg and Russell Hornsby… THIS IS AMERICA “It is impossible to be unarmed, when our blackness is the weapon that they fear” Lists 2018: Ranked

It’s well-acted, well-made, & well-written, showing that YA novel adaptations can be more than just romance & dystopias. ACAB.

a re-watch definitely makes the flaws in this film much more evident but regardless i really do think this is a mandatory viewing for everyone—absolutely gut-wrenching. amandla is amazing

read this last week and would really recommend the book. this adaptation is a tiny bit worse than Alright but i still think it’s worth the watch. the final pages of the book list some of the names of black people who have been murdered and it’s heartbreaking. with those names and everything going on right now i can’t tell whether this was comforting or just made me feel even more helpless to be honest. the way the story translates onto the screen just mimics the news at the moment. also: ACAB and fuck that hailey girl

um filme mt pesado e é muito triste saber que é uma realidade de muitos. mostra como é necessário se posicionar sobre preconceitos e lutar pelos nossos direitos. assisti na school com minha amiga @kerlylm

Considering how effortlessly she plays self-absorbed entitlement, it’s zero surprise Sabrina carpenter said yes to playing the ultimate out-of-touch mean girl.

    – watched The Hate U Give because I am a #dedicated member of the CCB EDI book club this summer and we have our final meeting on this movie tomorrow (today) – I watched this movie already in the tenth grade and hated it then. it was supposed to compliment To Kill a Mockingbird, which I liked a lot (thank you Mr. Clark) – I’m still not a fan of The Hate U Give but I’m okay with it I…
