I was really looking forward to watching this one. But in the end, it just wasn’t for me. I had honestly never even heard of it until recently. I saw it at the library, and picked it up. I’m a huge fan of dinosaurs. You know how some people like me love trains? Yeah, that’s me with dinosaurs 🤣 I’ve spent countless hours readings books, watching movies, and watching hours long documentaries on YouTube about dinosaurs. This sure looks great, but I distracted myself pretty badly trying to figure out just how a bunch of giant lizards with no tools or thumbs developed an agrarian society. This is the kind of practical stuff that cartoon premises ignore all the time (and with good cause, kids don’t care) but that drives my faulty brain totally up the wall with questions. At one point a tyrannosaur is playing a bug like a harmonica (sure, fine) and then when he’s done he just eats it. This made me think of Wilma Flintstone butchering the record player for dinner, and that got me really wound up. Freakish and unpleasant.

If you, like me, when watching an animated movie for kids tend to end up on that annoying crossroads of judging the film on its intrinsic qualities and trying to trying to transport yourself to the mindset of the target audience, you’ll have a tough time with the Good Dinosaur. If you, like me, have a five year old son to watch it with and show you which path to take the Good Dinosaur will feel like a warm bath with a strong moral compass. A simplistic plot with an overbearing message can be really annoying. The Good, the Bad, and the Ain’t Got Nothing on Littlefoot It’s a gorgeous Dino Western that’s straightforward and heartfelt. There’s nothing particularly complicated about it, but sometimes you don’t need complicated. Just dinosaurs, beautiful landscapes, and a surprisingly sweet coming of age story.

The good dinosaur? More like the wuss dinosaur. This is… difficult. They’re dinosaurs, but they’ve crafted tools and run a farm. I can’t suspend my disbelief and think this is stupid. Didn’t think the dinosaur and the kid would get drunk/high together. I dunno, it truly was okay. I can see why it wasn’t a massive success but it was alright. it is missing the spark that Pixar films usually have. The water looked so good and Spot’s hair was good, but it takes more than that to make a great film. 5/10 and a C.

Nada nunca acontece. Acho que esse filme poderia ser bem melhor, é uma formula já antes vista em filmes da Pixar e que tentaram aplicar em um filme de Dinossauros. This was the first movie I ever remember watching. I believe that this film defined my childhood. It taught me lessons of kindness, bravery, and acceptance. The scene with the fireflies, both ones with Poppa and Spot, is one of the first memories of film I remember having. That amazed 6-year-old me. “The Good Dinosaur” is good, don’t get me wrong, but a simply good movie doesn’t really feel up to Pixar standards. The movie is visually stunning – I’d probably have to say the best landscapes Pixar has ever done. But the plot is kinda something that just happens without a ton of strong cause-and-effect. Gotta say though, Sam Elliot as a cattle-herding T-rex cowboy that says “Hya” when he starts running is a real highlight.

No way a Pixar movie made me want to replay Life is Strange 2. Quite simple in its inital premise, but once it hits a moment letting these kids reflect on mourning, it actually becomes more interesting than I was led to believe it could be. Still just a fine movie, and certainly wish I cared more about the focused characters, though it’s one that I somehow respect after the more pitiful excuses for movies aimed at children I’ve watched this year.
