The cinematography has also vastly improved; it now has a more cinematic, and even stunning, quality. I’ll mark this as spoiler but I genuinely believe that should’ve been used in the marketing to convince people to see it😆. Bigger, better & bloodier, The Expendables 2 is an explosive sequel to its predecessor that improves upon the original in almost every department & is a worthy addition to the newly established franchise. They have taken all that worked positively in the first installment and have rightly amped it up; the actions are much fierce and the violence just got more bloodier. The humor and references are placed rightly. With an already kickass ensemble, Liam Hemsworth gets added to the mercenary while Arnold Schwarzenegger & Bruce Willis get more screen time with Van Damme getting to play the deadly villain. The entire intro sequence of Chuck Norris was just hilarious. It has a pretty decent storyline with solid technical values. If you’re all about high octane action extravaganza and entertainment, just go for it.

This movie doesn’t try to be anything more than it is, a straightforward, wham bam thank you ma’am, action movie. I like that. No preachy bs. No hidden messages or meanings, just big guns and huge explosions. I can really appreciate that. Action movies are usually not my favorites. I like them, but honestly once you’ve seen a few good ones, you’ve kind of seen them all. 🤷 And usually, they only get worse. But this series seems to just give you what you want, and lots of it. Don’t know how much they spent on casting, but it was worth every penny; it’s not the perfect action cast only because it lacks guys like Jackie Chan, Steven Seagal and Tom Cruise. But they came close.

I’m sorry, not even a 4K HDR upgrade can clean up how grainy and blurry some of this movie is. It came out a couple months after Avengers 1 but somehow feels like they’re trying to get OLD GUYS to do Whedonesque quips but also trying to be 80s/90s one-liners? It’s eugh all over. On top of that, you got the shoddy CGI blood and vehicles. The action’s filmed just a smidgen better than the first, but still suffers from the aforementioned shoddy VFX.

To put it simply, this is literally guns blazing the movie. The Expendables 2 is a slight improvement from the first one. The action scenes don’t have any shaky camera apart from the scene where the plane crashes through the tunnel. My biggest criticism is that the whole movie has this grainy effect that makes everything blurry. I wonder if the 4K Blu-ray looks any better.

Finally had a chance to check out the 4K disc and it looked pretty great with HDR. There’s a couple of closeups that look pretty bad, though. But, the Dolby Atmos track is a BEAST.

Dude what the fuck is Liam Hemsworth doing in this? I literally cheered when they killed him off so early, thank God. Think is my first Chuck Norris since the legend passed away. Gonna need to fix that soon. Naturally they make the Chuck Norris cobra joke. Adding JCVD is always a plus and both Willis and Arnold get a good deal more screen time here, and of course we get a few “I’ll be back”s from Arnie. And thankfully…

After watching Barbie & Her Sisters in a Pony Tale, I decided to watch something less interesting and chose The Expendables. As surprising as it may seem, it turned out to be one of the dumbest and most boring movies I’ve ever seen. I don’t understand why people are so enthusiastic about it. However, I liked The Expendables 2 better. Why did I watch the second one after the first? I saw that its ratings were sometimes even worse than the first one’s, so I decided to give it a chance. And, surprisingly, it was worth it. The movie is okay. I’ll definitely watch it again never.
