Sometimes you just want to work at the Home Depot by day and shoot somebody in the head with a nail gun by night. Denzel’s character is complex. It’s a good chance he’s OCD, he has a mysterious past, likes to help hookers, is an avid reader and he’s a weight loss coach. He also has super killer instinct vision. Trust me, you don’t want to make him angry. I like the way Antoine Fuqua makes it appear Denzel is fighting like a Terminator boss. So wonderfully, sturdily stupid, like, what if there was this guy who was really good at murder so let’s set up a few rows of obvious scumbag dominos for him to knock over. Gleefully violent and shot through with moments of grace like a massive explosion that would likely make national news for weeks or an ostentatious crane move covering a henchman being hanged with barbed wire.

This is what is going to happen. This ridiculous, hilarious movie is going to play on cable. You are going to reluctantly watch it. You’re going to end up watching the whole thing even though you have other things to do. Then it’s going to play on cable again, and you’re going to watch it again, particularly the later scenes when it basically becomes HOME ALONE in Home Depot (a.k.a. Home Depot Alone). You are going to repeat this several times. You might feel guilty about it, you probably won’t tell anyone; if a loved one comes in the room while it’s on TV you might even change the channel. But in your heart of hearts, you will have to admit that this movie is kind of awesome. Trust me on this. It’s going to happen.

Took a huge edible before watching. Not entirely convinced this was real. Theres a scene at the end where Denzel confronts the big bad guy: the bad guy is in the shower and Denzel turns off the light and the guy leaves the shower and Denzel is sitting in a chair, like a classic “you didn’t know I was sitting in the dark in a chair with a silenced gun” type scene, but the whole time they’re talking, having, like, a very serious discussion, Denzel’s left hand is on the light switch and he just keeps turning the lights on and off over and over again? Moments like that loop back around from being the dumbest shit ever to being actually amazing and brilliant. Or not. Idk I was super high and that made me laugh really, really hard lmao. One star

Curiosamente é um filme conforto pra mim. Já deve ser a quarta vez que assisto e continua sendo bom de assistir. Tudo bem que não é aquela maravilha do cinema e tem vários dos clichês de filme de ação “dad movie”, mas é um filme que consigo assistir novamente com muita tranquilidade de tempos em tempos por ser divertido. Não estou interessado em ver as sequências ainda.

Great atmosphere, hard action and a main character that you immediately stand behind. Not quite perfect, but this is exactly the kind of action thriller I come for. Denzel was him.

Moyen, j’ai pas d’autre mot pour d’écrire Equalizer. Trop cliché, le scénario qui ponds des éléments de nul part, ce que je trouve un poil insupportable quand TOUT le film avance comme ca. Bref c’est le premier et j’espère que les 2 autres apprendront des erreurs du celui-ci par ce que là il y a vraiment trop de trou, on dirait un copier collé d’un livre… (évidemment tu auras deviner mais il est adapter du roman du même nom…)

In this world, reading 100 books total is the most anyone can imagine. It kind of feels like it would be better as a tv show about a ridiculous super hero who solves the problems of everyone he runs into. It’s neither ridiculous enough nor is the action strong enough to have as weak characterization as it does. Chloe Grace-Moretz is the most compelling (if generically so) part, but she disappears half an hour in. Then you’ve got vignettes of violence interspersed with a boring and confusing Russian mob plot. But Denzel is solid.

Le film d action le plus prévisible du monde. Ce film pioche littéralement toutes les idées qui ont déjà été faites dans d autres films d actions typiques de la période (ville américaine comme lieu, mafieux russes comme méchants, ex agent repartant à zéro). Le film est juste beaucoup trop prévisible et je dois dire que je suis assez déçu car je m attendais a mieux avec Denzel Washington. Bref si vous vous voulez regarder un bon film d action, je vous recommande tous les autres films d actions de la période excepté celui ci.

I love this style of movie. Was there much depth… no. Character development… no. But gosh dang there was some sweet sweet vigilante vengeance that really gets my masculine heart beating. Have decided that in the next handful of years I want to begin boxing, Brazilian Jiu Jitzu and get my conceal and carry to defend my future family. Thank you Denzel for inspiring me.

The kind of movie you’d have to force me to watch and well… let’s say I didn’t win the which movie are we watching discussion that day Yea well what can I say, it works for what it wants to be which is good, it didn’t necessarily need to be any different to work better, but the whole concept is so generic and nearly every element is extremely usual for the genre. But otherwise, yes you all are right, it is very entertaining and all, nice pacing, nice action sequences. Overall pleasant movie.

Great vigilante, one man army action series. First movie was action packed. Loved the setup of Robert’s character, a man with a tough past and heart for protecting and serving others, who everyone underestimates. The creativity of each fight scene was fun to watch, abd the finale in the department store was brilliant. 2nd favorite in the series.
