Zombie’s ugly, dusty dad-rock western-horror banger that occupies the exact intersection of Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, The Wild Bunch and Bonnie & Clyde. Repurposing the extremely gruesome Manson family and serial killer paranoia of the 70s (that Hooper and Craven were reacting to) into the dirtiest, most apocalyptic version of mythic, outmoded American outlaw iconography. Somehow a sincere and moving work of exploitation because you get the impression Zombie identifies with being a vulgar punk outsider; “Lord help me, I can’t change” feels like it could just as easily be his own mission statement. Full discussion the film and it’s amazing soundtrack on the Soundtracker podcast.

81 The Other Side of the Story. Rob Zombie’s coked-out 9/11 dissection screams from both lands, mushing allegory and exploitation among a 70s Texas hellscape. The American ideal perverted, spat on, and left for dead. The only choice is to kill. And the only response is to kill. Zombie’s most inherently musical, with the indelible moments rising and crashing through mixtape picks. This movie took ‘FreeBird’ off the market back in 2005, and Matthew Vaughn still had the audacity to rehash it for his misogynist spy dump.

rob zombie is one of the ultimate wifeguys, nothing but respect for him putting sheri moon zombie in this trilogy as a totally unrepentant monster of a character.

A southern-fried junkyard carnival of relentless bedlam, blood soaked violence, and wild eyed revenge. The Devil’s Rejects is one sadistic slab of outlaw grindhouse transplanted right into the mid 2000’s—frantic, grimy, and hedging it’s bets that we, the viewer, desire to be entertained by three psychopaths in a nightmare rodeo landscape where morality was lost long ago—if it even existed there in the first place. Definitely isn’t for everyone, and that’s totally understandable, but I bought the ticket, and took the ride—can’t really say I care for his Halloween movies or 31 very much (or at all tbh), but I adore the ridiculousness of Corpses (my fav Zombo movie), the arty side of Salem, and deranged absurdity of this… ultra…

rob zombie knows that the best horror sequels involve a genre shift. alien -> aliens, texas chainsaw massacre -> texas chainsaw massacre 2, evil dead -> evil dead 2. but what changes from house of 1000 corpses to the devils rejects is less the genre of the movie and more the genre of the characters. rob turns slasher monsters and cryptid antagonists into mythic antiheroes and wild west serial killers. the worldbuilding of the movie shifts to accommodate this new take on the firefly family but the structure and overall genre remains mostly the same. its a genius step: where house of 1000 corpses cobbles together spookshow carnival imagery and influences, the devils rejects picks at the bones of westerns…

The needle drops were pretty solid Sure it’s grimy, but less of a horror than I was expecting Fun to see lots of classic horror actors pop up tho

This was basically exactly what I expected it to be. It’s grotesque and nasty, but very well directed. Found it hard to rate because for the most part I thought it was really good, and most of that is because of the extremely talented and underrated Rob Zombie. But some other parts I did find quite stupid and lacklustre. I would recommend it if you don’t mind disturbing and brutal violence.

I absolutely adore the first one and how unconventional it is but this one… its just straight up goreporn, i really have tried to finish it, but the plot was lost and the OG actor for mama firefly wasnt being there made me so sad:[

A grittier aesthetic is perfect as the devil’s rejects are forced on the run while running from someone who can actually match their energy. Love.

Are you saying… that I would cut off a chicken’s head? Stick my dick in it? Fuck it… And go “Aah”? You accuse me of fucking a chicken, motherfucker? I already loved The Devil’s Rejects, and somehow I had still seriously underrated it. Maybe I needed a few more years of garbage rolling around in my head before I realized how fucking good it is. Maybe this really is lightning in a bottle for Zombie — nothing else I’ve seen…

romanticized hate. it’s quite strange how this movie manages to make you root for some of the vilest people to walk the earth. we see the trio rape and kill all across the texan countryside, yet they still somehow maintain this odd charisma that reels you in. you cheer as otis bashes in a man’s skull whilst he prays for his life; and you cheer when tiny saves the trio from their deserved fate at the farmhouse. you feel a…

The Devil Rejects takes everything introduced in House of 1000 Corpses and turns it into something meaner, grittier, and surprisingly more grounded. The shift from colorful nightmare to grimy 70s road movie is perfect, and the soundtrack elevates nearly every scene. The Firefly family somehow becomes even more captivating when they’re unleashed on the open road. And that ending? “Free Bird” blasting as the Rejects make their final stand is genuinely one of the greatest movie endings ever put to film. Brutal, beautiful, and unforgettable.

I think I just love the dynamic between as well as just the characters themselves when it comes to Captain Spaulding, Otis and Baby. House has a little edge but both movies are up my alley. Couple of scenes as well as the final sequence were true standouts for me.
