A lot has been said about this film here. People criticising the filmmakers for the melodrama and the predicable turns but actually i found this film incredibly surprising and moving. And having read the book – it follows its narrative shifts exactly. The film is not a lifetime movie – its honest and the family dynamics are complicated. Its a film about the way families deal with tragedy in different the ways, and when their little boy and brother is lost; each of the Cappadoras blame themselves. The family are excellently cast – with a realistic dynamic between the two brothers. Call me sentimental but Ive always really loved this film.

CRAZY, this movie is crazy. And I should’ve known better when I seen [Whoopi Goldberg’s character, Det. Candy Bliss]. See what happens when you leave the door unlocked? But I love a ridiculous melodrama and I love Michelle Pfeiffer and sometimes that’s enough Faves: 1990s

This one exceeded my expectations by a lot. I felt very attached to each character, I cried with them, laughed and felt for their every heartbreak. I have never seen a movie quite like this one and I loved it. Would definitely recommend if you are looking for a good cry.

Had potential to be great but was kinda underwhelming and boring. It was kinda sad I guess because it was a true story. I was so ready for the mums reaction.

Bad parenting at its finest. Not only fucking up 1 kids life but both lol Naw but I couldn’t imagine being in their shoes that has to be the toughest shit in life. But I don’t like how she was trying to cook the dad at the end like she hasn’t been an absolute train wreck for 9 years like relax girl. As for the movie just a typical hallmark movie that I’ll forget about.
-
S
This is really not good. Terrible title first of all. It’s like hallmark without love and whimsy, so that just leaves you with a bad script, bad acting, and a plot where you say huh? Will be deleting this from my brain.

I didn’t love every choice the mom made, but I felt the story. I connected with the emotional trauma, the realism, and the child‑centered perspective. I understood the adoptive dad wasn’t the villain. I saw the complexity instead of just the drama.

DEBILIDADES.

I felt like we shouldve focused more on their life after the nine years and that some of the before couldve been cut ! but other than that I really enjoyed this, i was not expecting the plot to go the way it did but it ended up moving me a lot. im a bit sad that we didnt see vincent and his parents getting proper closure with eachother, or more of vincent and kerry’s dynamic, but I also fully…

It was a good premise but I think it would’ve been better as a drama thriller or psychological thriller vibe. The ending is kinda unrealistic imo. Why would he go back to the family he wanted to get away from so bad after like 2 weeks? It would’ve been better if like there was a plot twist where his “dad” (George) was actually in on the abduction and went to jail and stuff.

The older brother kept blaming himself which made him to act out. But nice ending of the family reuniting. I feel like could’ve co-parent because it was unfair to George who had no partaking of his wife’s actions, but good movie

Loved the vibe. Felt all the emotions. Especially, the moment when the mother realises that she had actually and physically lost her son. The raw emotions portrayed by Michelle were immaculate. In the story, when Ben comes back as Sam was actually unrealistic in an otherwise very realistic movie. But the struggle to make him fit in a family that was biologically his, but unknown to him was a true depiction of the loss one suffers, if one’s absent for…

7.5/10 I had a different experience with this movie than most I guess because the bulk of these reviews seem to be along the lines of “it sucked but at least the actor that played Vincent was hot”. I enjoyed the movie a lot with the exception of said actor. I feel mean saying it because I’m sure it’s just the way he’s born, but I find his nasally vocal fry voice distractingly off-putting. And again not his fault, but…

Ulu Grosbard’s “The Deep End of the Ocean” is a painfully stolid movie that lumbers past emotional issues like a wrestler in a cafeteria line, putting a little of everything on his plate. It provides big roles for Michelle Pfeiffer and Treat Williams, but doesn’t provide them with the screenplay support they need; the result is that awkwardness when characters express emotions that the audience doesn’t share. (There’s no way I can discuss the failure of the movie without revealing…
