Less cheesy, less funny, more dreary, unnecessarily longer and more inconsistent and utterly stupid with plot details than the original; with an added dash of a horribly unlikeable version of the returning main girl from the first movie, and plenty of continuity errors. I’m convinced that this was made as a tax-deductible intro for Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn’s private Santa Claus roleplay porn.

Chris Columbus has forgotten more about how to make satisfying family movies than most people will ever know, and nothing will ever change the fact that “Home Alone,” “Mrs. Doubtfire,” and “Adventures in Babysitting” did more to shape millennial identity (or at least the BuzzFeed quizzes about it) than historians will ever formally recognize. With the chintzy but foundational first two films in the “Harry Potter” franchise, it could be argued that Columbus exerted a seismic impact on the next generation as well. We’re talking about a guy whose cultural relevance somehow managed to outlast that of the other iconic figure who shares his name, despite the fact that only one of them was responsible for “Bicentennial Man.” And so…

Much like the first one, Kurt Russel is the best part of this movie. But unlike the first one, there are no other redeeming factors. The acting is terrible, the story is terrible, and those stupid ass elves having a huge part in this movie was horrendous. They also tried to play ‘Who Let the Dogs Out’ for comedic value. Not only is that song incredibly overused in movies, but there was not a single dog anywhere. Tons of horrific elves tho. And who’s idea was it to cast the kid from Hunt for the Wilderpeople as the villain. No offense to him but he is the least intimidating person I’ve ever seen. Netflix, for the love of god, don’t make a third one.

Sooo back in the 1940’s did they know elves existed in the Christmas Chronicles universe? Since It’s A Wonderful Life is dubbed I would assume that is the case, or did the elves just dub the film themselves so they can watch it over and over in the elvish dub? And did anyone tell them that dubbing sucks and subtitles are so much better for live-action films? Anyhow, where the first film is actually a really fun journey about family, this one is simply a shit film. Shocked at how bad this was especially when compared to the first.

I love this movie aswell. I just don’t really like the beginning and ending as much and Bell snickles pmo. My absolute favorite part with this movie is when Kate meets her father in Boston in the past literally makes me cry. It’s so special to me. I like her step brother I just wish we would’ve gotten teddy aswell since he was the og yk? And I don’t think mrs clauses acting is good at all😭

J’avais bien aimé le premier mais il aurait fallu s’arrêter là. Ce second volet est nettement moins bon. Non pas par les personnages qui sont toujours aussi sympas, mais simplement par l’histoire qui ne parvient jamais à réellement accrocher le spectateur. On s’ennuie plus qu’on ne suit le film. Dommage

The Christmas Chronicles was a really fun Christmas movie and one I always enjoy coming back to during the holidays. Kurt Russell was perfect as Santa, and the movie had a great mix of comedy, adventure, and Christmas spirit. It’s become one of my favorite Christmas movies.

Same issues as the first. I found the lore more interesting, with Belsnickel and Yule Cat. Didn’t necessarily like the villain being an elf that turned into a fat teenage boy for no reason then back into an elf at the end. Also the whole meeting her dad thing was the most predictable thing ever. Not mad about it though.

Major let down from the second one. Just adds a character that was not mentioned at all in the first one and the summer setting mixed the actual Christmas one threw me off a bit. 🙁

Christmas Chronicles is a movie that I always watch at Christmas, that’s why it has a very different and special vibe for me. I love it because it conveys all that Christmas feeling, warm and exciting that makes seeing it feel like part of the celebration. It is one of those movies that I not only enjoy for the story, but also for the moment I see it and for everything it represents. Every time Christmas comes, seeing it again brings a feeling of joy, nostalgia and beautiful memories. It has a very special essence that makes it one of my favorite movies for that time.

Big on special effects but lacking on warmth, reality and Christmas spirit. It was good to see Darlene Love, who hasn’t changed a bit since the Lethal Weapon films. Wasn’t as good as the first which was more rooted in ordinary people belief in Santa and him, not surprisingly, knowing who they were and everything they’ve ever asked for at Christmas.
