Nate Bargatze’s long-term plan appears to be becoming Walt Disney for people who treat Applebees like a place of worship. i respect the vision. they stopped making this exact movie in 2006 and i think its existence is some kind of ominous indicator of a recession. every economic indicator is fake except for whether a major studio releases a comedy about a dad learning how groceries work. hollywood only produces movies like this when the nation is about to learn a difficult lesson. this is some kind of serious warning and the film itself is a harbinger of biblical financial plague. but Despite whatever omen this represents, I’m glad it’s out there. For the sake of all the Applebees people. they need movies to watch too

One of the worse films I’ve seen this year. (Dies of cringe) Unfunny, full of advertising (if you play a drinking game of Toyota salesman of the year you’ll be dead by the end), no soul and just boring. Also does that one thing I really hate. All dads in this film end up being weird or straight up dumb. Movie really talks down to father figures in a really gross manner which I found extremely disrespectful. Bad movie but there is one positive thing here. I don’t have to see the trailer to this anymore. I’m free from the breadwinner era. Awful film.

This movie would hit so hard if you were a 40-year-old conservative man that spends more time in your garage than with your children.

This was solid, very sweet and wholesome, essentially modern day take on ‘Mr. Mom’. I have never seen a single Nate Bargatze stand up special but I know of him, and he was pretty funny in this.

Y’all need to chill, cause this is a harmless film. It’s trying to be nothing more than a family-friendly comedy.

Watch the 2017 animated film “The Breadwinner” instead. That film is awesome. This one is awful. Or, if you want something more relevant to this experience, just watch 90 minutes of Nate Bargatze stand-up comedy. He is funny. This movie is both dull and predictable while at the same time being too far-fetched and ridiculous.

the stand-up self promo at the end was insane… how much of this shit actually happened to him in real life?!

Me and Paul Walter Hauser know ball. This is perfectly fine. The right vehicle for Bargatze. And he smartly surrounds himself with very funny people. Will Forte, Colin Jost, Kumail, and Kate Berlant even! No idea when everyone hated on this so much.

Are we gonna talk about how Keegan picked up a lot of that unpaid labor? Lots of corny moments, some actual LOL moments, but enough product placement to fund a new Shark Tank entrepreneur.

If it’s not a perfect five-star movie for people here, I get it. But Letterboxd is being too harsh to this film. It’s a simple, sweet Dad comedy that you can watch with your family. Nate has lightly went the Adam Sandler way, serving what he does best: comedy. Sure, he has rehashed some of his standup jokes, but I haven’t watched his shows so it didn’t seem a problem to me. The bloopers were fun too, rarely do we see them nowadays in the films. Super canon using “Candy” song in a film starring Mandy Moore.

A silly, good-natured family comedy. Not a very good movie but I like Nate so I don’t mind watching it. The softest of soft recommendation (only for Nate fans).

After seeing the preview, I decided that I didn’t like the main character of the Dad. Fortunately for the producers there was nothing else new that week and I thought that my Mom would enjoy a comedy. This wasn’t the greatest comedy, but he actually won me over and felt more genuine than the first impression that I got. The kid actors are great, the situations believable, and off course has the happy endings. The cameo of “Shark Tank” is amusing and sets the tone for this movie from the beginning.

Solid family movie. Didn’t get a lot of laughs out of me, but the messaging was good. Solid performances and character work. I really loke the apology tour scene (when he tries to get people to let him use their house). And good growth from our protagonist. Solid film. Not groundbreaking, but solid.

Movie became way too unrealistic when the horse entered the house.

Beautiful Stella Grace Fitzgerald is in this. Not as prominently as I hoped it would be but what can you do sometimes… I was hoping to see more of Calista Craig too but she was barely in it.

Not offensively bad, but not good. It’s funny but no real laugh out loud moments. Just kinda bland imo. Nate is fine in this, Colin is pretty good, but the whole thing just feels like a 90min SNL skit making fun of dads being incompetent. Maybe the comedy just isn’t my style idk. Also wayyy too much advertising, it’s inescapable.
-
T
I cannot believe i didn’t see the horse thing coming. I’ve watched tennessee kid 50 times. This is just a modern feel good family comedy featuring my fav feel good stand up comedian. Can’t wait to try to convince my family to watch it with me.

This was ok… Nate Bargatze Was definitely the best part of the movie! The three kid actors were… very cringe… The movie was pretty stereotypical as well. But hey! Maybe the real Breadwinner was the friends we made along the way?

42/100 Nate is very funny and has excellent delivery which is present in most sequences here. However the supporting cast are mailing it in and clearly don’t care to be there. Overall a concept that’s made for dads to take their kids to the movie and that’s absolutely it. A fun time but certainly not good.

This movie was not a great movie, but if you like Nate you’ll enjoy it. I love this dude’s face. It’s so deadpan. It’s essentially a compilation of all of his standup comedy that you’ve watched prior.

This sucked. The dude was funny but the plot was awful.

Outdated plot seen a million times and Nate bargatze just isn’t funny to me this is a bad movie I being a little easy on it idk why but it’s just pretty bad on all fronts

Sometimes we just gotta sit back and watch a Cringe ahh family flick, it may have be fun but definitely forgettable at the same time, And the children probably portrayed their roles way better than the adults(i mean if you gonna act atleast make it believable) 5/10 2026 2026 “All”

I’m a big fan of Bargatze’s standup but this wasn’t my favorite, although the Shark Tank part was pretty good. Cheaper by the Dozen vibes with 9 less kids (the 3 sisters also look nothing alike). I had to leave about an hour into it, but probably won’t go back to finish it.

This movie is more stupid than funny. That being said, I appreciate that it is family friendly.

This was a fun movie and I did not expect to like this film at all. I laughed a lot and this type of family comedy is something that I miss. Nate Bargatze I have also liked him on SNL and his standup and this movie was based on his standup. This truly made me laugh and reminded me a lot of 80 for Brady. A comedy that I was supposed to not like, but I did.

This movie did 3 things really well. Unfortunately, it’s 3 things I don’t care for: slapstick comedy, weaponized incompetence, and obvious product placement.

Being a family man/father and Nate fan I actually had unreasonably high hopes for this but unfortunately it is as middling as can be. I don’t even know what else to say, it’s just not that funny and extremely forgettable.

Okay so this movie isn’t good, but hear me out. I enjoyed it. Not like oh this is full of camp but it’s trash and I’m a trash person so I’m obsessed. No. This movie is has jokes. It is obviously written by a comedian, right? And if you enjoy his comedy you will laugh at the jokes. The movie is probably written around the jokes rather than the other way around? The comedy isn’t enough to hold up the…

Just a dumb movie about a dumb dad where his incompetence kind of ruins the family’s life, but is sort of redeemed by giving a dumb little speech about how great stay-at-home moms are.

I prefer his standup…it doesn’t really translate to a story. The movie still has some funny moments, but overall the framing is a little weird. Odd political undertones (seems like focus-grouped to hell?)
-

Barely ok.

Crap, It’s a totally commercial movie, brand names everywhere, and on top of that, it’s not funny at all that a man is useless, it’s reality. Stop making movies that try to make being a useless guy who doesn’t help his wife seem funny. #learnhowtostopbeingidiots

*The Breadwinner* was a pretty easy no for me. It’s not the worst movie I’ve seen, and there are a few charming moments, but overall it just didn’t work. I’m a Nate Bargatze fan, and I genuinely admire him for taking a big swing and making his own feature film. I just wish I liked the end result more. Mandy Moore is charming, the kids are fine, and there are glimpses of a sweeter, funnier movie in here somewhere. Unfortunately, those moments weren’t enough to save it for me. I respect the swing. I would still skip the movie.
