What’s more difficult: Taking down a set of marauding bandits using only hand-to-hand weapons, or memorizing an entire copy of the King James Bible and being able to dictate it from memory? Fortunately you don’t have to decide.

Starring: King Kong Ain’t Got Sh!t On Denzel The fact that non-Christians made one of the coolest “Christian” films speaks volumes about the lack of effort on the part of Christian filmmakers and artists. Rants aside, though, the film is actually really good. In many ways, this universe is really a more cannibalistic and less fetishistic take on Mad Max, however it does alter and add certain characteristics that set it apart. The production design and cinematography work together to create this really good bleak tone. The score is just as important to the film’s emotional core, contributing a somber but ultimately optimistic and epic tone, especially in the final act. The performances are all great, particularly Oldman and Washington. Denzel…

This is one of those movies I’ll always watch whenever I come across it on TV. Absolutely love the story. Very creative and well executed.

„People had more than they needed. We had no idea what was precious and what wasn’t. We threw away things people kill each other for now.”

J
I found the premise a little unconvincing and the acting less so.
-
Z
it’s got Denzel reciting Bible quotes and acting like a cowboy. It’s not bad! It’s been getting a resurgence online and I totally get it, but I also definitely have a sour taste in my mouth that this would’ve been an angel Studios movie that came out today.
-
K
wait this was so good I was a little bit confused at the beginning BUT God is so good !!!

Gary Oldman plays Gary Oldman, Denzel Washington plays Denzel Washington, the plot twist doesn’t twist the plot, the colorimetry doesn’t colour. Magnificent soundtrack though.

I’ve been walking for thirty years, and I’m still walking. Okay, Eli. Same. Except I’m walking straight to Letterboxd because i need a minute to process that ending. I really enjoyed this. The atmosphere, the whole post apocalyptic vibe, and especially that ending. That twist had me mentally replaying the entire movie like: “WAIT. So THAT’S why… and THAT scene… OH COME ON.”

Denzel is cool as hell in this movie. Equalizing people left and right. Had no idea he was blind that was a cool twist I love all the religious aspects of this movie. So many things that were symbolic and well done in that aspect. Denzel as the soft spoken quiet soldier of God was genuinely very cool and inspiring to be honest. Gary Oldman is great and I love the dynamic of his generation, the generation that know of…

“I walk by faith, not by sight.” Rewatched this with my boyfriend who had never seen it before. We scored this movie real cheap online as a 4k Blu-ray. This was my first time watching this movie as an adult and it was still pretty good! I’m just a fan of Denzel in literally anything tbh. I love the desaturated color scheme of the movie, very bleak and dull which fits the post-apocalyptic setting. The lighting is super harsh too…

His early meal must have been where Nikki got the inspiration for Bear’s lunch. Can someone explain to me why Denzel is always cool in his films no matter what? Also this is a later amendment but I just realised he was blind 🤦🏼♂️.

Exquisitely dumb: Zatoichi with eidetic memory travels Fury Road to recite the Bible on Alcatraz. But there’s some cool action stuff, surprising restraint with the backstory, and Denzel can bench-press this kind of thing with one arm.

“What was it like before? People had more than they needed, people didn’t know what was precious and what wasn’t, people threw away things they kill each other for now.” 52 Week Rewatch Challenge #32 -starring Denzel Washington Rewatching this movie knowing the plot twist is a phenomenal experience. I had the same reaction The Sixth Sense. There are so many clues (especially during the nighttime scenes in this movie), but when the twist is revealed, it’s still fucking incredible…

The Road meets the Equalizer A great post apocalyptic action film with some really fantastic action sequences and scenes that are honestly caddied by Denzel and Gary Oldman. Love the twist, love the grim setting, wish it were a little less yellow.

-
J
Denzel Washington and Gary Oldman are great actors, but Tom Waits quietly steals the movie. Really enjoyed this.

Beyond the great performances of Denzel and Gary Oldman. I didn’t like the subject at all, and even more so that everything was for a Bible. The shots also look ugly and the color of the movie in general

It was somewhat losing the idea that the movie is supposed to tell it got too focused on the significance of a bible than the characters themselves i wanted to watch post apocalyptic movie not some jesus add
-
R
It’s a good movie, but awfully boring It seems like a worse version of Mad Max, tbh But the twist is really good, which is what saves the movie. Denzel Washington carries the movie (as he is supposed to) and Mila Kunis is good at least

Really good movie, I was happy the whole time, I really liked the soundtrack especially in the lower end of the sound it helped create so much tension. The pacing was also really good at the beginning i thought i was not gonna follow on but it all ended up moving pretty perfectly after that. Denzel really is the perfect guy to cast for a role like this. Definitely a good watch with the enhanced visuals, kinda distorted the lighting a little bit and the whole movie gave off cod campaign graphics😭 Overall great flick definitely will cop a rewatch in due time
-
M

Really good. I love post apocalyptic movies/stories and this totally delivered. It reminds me of movies based on comic books like 300 or John Wick in the way it looks. Oldman and Denzel are great, the reveal is great.
3 -
S
For a post apocalyptic story, I was disappointed by how often this took the uninspired and predictable path at every turn. Denzel’s performance does most of the heavy lifting as usual, but it’s not enough to save a mediocre script

Another movie that proves religion is always in the way of harmony and yet the last standing point to hope for humanity, in the right hands, of course. My oh my the final part was simply amazing. I would have never thought this is going to end in such true fashion. Mesmerizing and truly shocking but not for the most part. The type of movie to gradually excell in its purpose. And Denzel and Gary Oldman in the same title? Count me in every day of the week. A timeless classic that would live on forever (hope so). Pun intended.

I want this to be so much more than it was, and in a strange way it is. Or at very least, could be. All of the elements are there, all of the pieces are in play. But ultimately, the way they were used and put together just left a lot to be desired. [Fade To Black] Even still, it’s worth a watch and I enjoyed the message.
-
T

If you’re were ever scrolling through tv channels and you come across this one, you stop. Denzel is going full Denzel and owning the screen. Oldman is going full slimy fuck and he sure is good at.

Absolutely brilliant! Loved the writing and production in this one. Will killed it, as did Mila. The storyline was fresh and done well. This is one of my favorites; a definite watch.

Filme sensacional e o plot do final é genial

The first half was action packed and entertaining . The second half was just blatant christian propaganda . Denzel’s acting was good . Solera was insufferable .

Wow. A Denzel Masterpiece. What can I say? Almost as good as the second movie.

That guy looks like Blade and dresses like Blade, but instead of a half vampire he’s a blind dude that’s so good at being not blind it was a big plot twist.

I genuinely believe this film changed my outlook on spreading the gospel.

this is honestly pretty poorly disguised evangelical nonsense. But I like me a post-apocalyptic film anyway, I guess. Decent acting performances and interesting direction and cinematography choices.

I LOVE THAT SCENE WHEN HE SITS BY THE CAMPFIRE AND LISTENS TO AL GREEN

Denzel is such an underrated action star. Great flick
-
A
Decent flick, interesting premise but it’s underbaked and underwhelming. Character motivation outside of the protagonists seem pretty flimsy. Also, how the hell did everybody get those aviator goggles? There can’t be that many out there.
-
B
Cualquier película de Denzel Washington es una obra de arte y esta no se queda atrás, que buena película diosito, cabe destacar que en esta peli descubrí “How can you mend a broken heart” de Al Green. Te amo Thaís

the shootout scene at the house has wicked camera work lol this movie is so slept on

this is kinda comedic at times which i wasn’t expecting baby she was born this way if this book is the fucking bible i’m gonna scream and it protects him of course💀

This movie looks cool. Lots of cool shots and action in it too. It gets unfairly slept on, give it a watch sometime. I guarantee the ending will stick with you, whatever you think of it. It hasn’t left my mind since 2010.

Caught this while watching AMC the other day. This was probably the best Christian-ish movie I’ve seen in a while. I say ish because i feel it’s more greek fable then biblical tale. visually, it looks good, you can argue that it’s too stylish to be realistic but that’s it’s charm. I’m a huge fan of Denzel Washington and he’s terrific as expected. And to no surprise again Gary Oldman is brilliant. The twist at the end is also great,…
-
K
good for him I guess

E
This movie is so ugly looking. Another hotel movie I got stuck watching.
-
W
Awesome of you don’t think too hard. The key component to the American Mad Max is evangelicalism
-
D
This was honestly a slog to get through since I wasn’t too attached to any of the characters and I was peeved by the muddy visuals. This filter seemed to be so common at this time in video games and movies that I will just call it the bland post-apocalyptic/gritty war filter. The ending twist was interesting enough that I might check this out again, but it was still not worth the slow burn IMO

Short Review: I promise you, I really, really, really wanted to love this film. This film has a lot of issues, along with some clearly very good characteristics, some twists and turns, and some things that, if you watch it a second time, make a lot more sense. So, it’s not a hollow film, it has a lot of good things in it. The characters, specifically, are the strong point of this film. I was super excited by some events…
-
R
The short amount of dialogue and all the shots made it amazing to watch!! I watched this when I was 11 (maybe but close) and actually rewatched more than two times. I kept analyzing the little details or how each actor portrayed their role in this post-apocalyptic world and how survival was only possibility for Eli to maintain on his own with no relationships.
