My dad showed me this when I was a kid and when it gets to the part where they show the woman with her eyes pecked out he went “whoops,” looked over at me and saw that I’d already seen it, and then went “oh well.”

I could easily defeat these little fuckers by simply not having a bunch of pent-up internal sexual and familial chaos to prey on or be externalized in the first place.

SPOILAS I like how the end of the movie is just the birds back to being stupid birds trying not to get run over by a car, but that’s what makes The Birds scary to begin with. The Birds trick you into a false sense of security and you’re like ah yes these birds, they are so stupid, look at them fly and eat garbage, but then you’ve got fifty of them on top of you and you’re just fucked, and their act of stupidity was all a ploy. I believe this to be true, because geese are already halfway there to revealing their true nature

Only takes an hour and a half to get good! Way more bird facts than I expected- yes I know it is called “The Birds” but I was expecting more birds terrorising humans than a brief education on the number of birds in America.

Had a friend that was terrified of birds because of this movie and now I see why. I enjoyed this a lot! If you knew nothing about this film or Hitchcock it really does come off as a silly rom-com in the beginning. The building suspense of one bird here and there, to birds swarming houses and breaking through windows is so fun. I adored the bit of the lovebirds swaying side to side while on the winding road in the beginning!

on the other side of unjustified, disproportionate violence Perhaps revenge for the passanger pigeons, certainly for the ravage of the natural world and other peoples. The humans forced to moved on, the new residents filling the landscape shot of the final scene. Clearly, inverting the roles of the usual migratory group, which leave scarred and terrified. Still, as humans, they’re taking with them exotic birds, which are as out of place as their owners: A strange new common ground for…

maybe the most convoluted and morally dubious way to get a date ever. next time just open a phone book and call him, melanie. the effects don’t hold up for the most part. i wouldn’t have a problem with that if the bird attack scenes were at least still scary/well done, but some of them aren’t really. the birds largely come across like overwhelming annoyances rather than genuine threats to one’s life. i understand they probably lacked the ability to…

Every blue-eyed person in California descends on the same hamlet, causing psychic interference that turns the community’s birds violent. It’s Hitchcock’s Night of the Living Dead out of wartime, with thick psychoanalytic overtones that never really play out and mind-bending effects that push early ’60s Hollywood action filmmaking to the edges of its capabilities. The scene with Hedren getting mauled in the upstairs room is horrifying.

someone decode how this man did what he did in the 1900s. Alfred Hitchcock isn’t only a master of suspense, his filmmaking was also so much ahead of it’s time. second half was not my cup of tea but this 1963 movie is still unbelievable to me compared to other films in the same year.

despite the wonderful characterizations, the initial pacing being simply fascinating with the two main characters Melanie and Mitch bouncing off of each other with escalating acts of insanity for each other, the birds suddenly falls flat when it decides to give up on its hour long buildup for what feels like a completely different and more disappointing movie, one with occasionally good tension, good shots, and near silence.

If I had a nickel for every horror film about a contemporary woman entering a conservative small town and disrupting its flow via her expressed sexuality, I would have three nickels. Which is a surprising fucking amount. A Greek-mythology-quoting exploration of maternity, femininity, and social dependence. The female role, extended and embodied by nature itself, bubbling to the surface in borderline apocalyptic turmoil. Embodied, here, used in a very much literal sense, as Melanie and the birds share not only…

The real horror here is how Melanie meets Mitch once, buys two lovebirds for his sister, travels sixty miles to deliver the birds to them, leaves the birds in their house (she just walks straight in without knocking!), and then tries to leave without anyone noticing. I honestly didn’t know what to expect going into this. All I knew was that it was about a bird attack, and that was pretty much it. But wow, I loved this so much. This was the very first horror film I watched in my adolescent years and its stuck with me since. A masterclass in build-up. A joy to watch again. Yes, some scenes (the schoolchildren being attacked outside is a key example) haven’t aged well, due to the effects at the time, and hearing that out-of-place mid-transatlantic accent does jar a little today. But the foundations are still rock-solid. The scenes where they’ve boarded up the house and are experiencing the vivid fear of the house being attacked from outside is just flesh-creepingly masterful. Again, here Hitchcock proves another point: That…

Mitch: What do you want? Melanie: I thought you knew! I want to go through life jumping into fountains naked, good night! Phenomenal tension and escalation points and brilliant vibrant scenery that just entrances you but I think I failed to understand either the point of the movie or I just find it hard to enjoy specific endings. So yes okay the birds are attacking WHY??????? Until the last 5 minutes I was so sure it had something to do…

A delight, takes a good while to get going, there are some not too subtle Hitchcockian jabs (I go to linguistics class and learn four letter words), there is thankfully no explanation for the birds wrecking havoc (well it is suggested that the love birds brought the ruckus to town, but they obviously left and the birds stayed), and yeah, once it gets going it is all in, me and the 12year old were thrilled (and hell, it is a blueprint for all upcoming zombie and a quiet place flicks, apart from the obvious nature’s revenge theme), great stuff.

Birds are either wild creatures or undercover FBI operatives, both posing a threat to everyday society. I can understand how technically groundbreaking this must’ve been in the 60s, still I could’ve used more story. I can also appreciate the lack of soundtrack to help build suspense, I dug that.

Albert Hitchcock classic The Birds is a horror/thriller about a small California town that suddenly comes under attack from increasingly aggressive birds. It’s the horror before horror. Honestly, this wasn’t as tough of a sit through as I thought. I was going into this thinking it was going to be extremely outdated or overrated. But for a movie that came out in 1963, it was still somewhat scary and distressing. The uncertainty is what’s scary. You don’t know when the…

It was so cool to learn how technical this film really is, half of the background shots were painted, and the mass bird scenes were done using the yellow screen technique, but it didn’t surprise me that Hitchcock used actual birds for a lot of scenes instead of the mechanical ones that the actors though were going to be used. This resulted in the lead actress needing actual care from doctors. As cool as the technical aspects of the film…

“The Birds” (1963) is one of the most popular Hitchcock Movies that if I’m being honest isn’t that great. Don’t get me wrong, it’s definitely a Genre-Defining story, however even despite its Revolutionary Background and Pratical Effects it’s still a mild story with some great moments sprinkled between. The gore use here like on the Birds victims are stupidly real, and it uses the concept as silly as ‘The Attack of the Birds’ be genuinely such a terrifying idea. Some…

Mi okozta a támadásokat? Teljesen függőben hagy, kismillió teóriám lenne a végére.

Most Hitchcock movies are more or less timeless but this just didn’t quite work for me on this viewing. I think it’s the special effects which, innovative as they may have been at the time, distract from the plot too much. Also the pacing was a little too slow at times for my liking.
