    right this made me bloody confused. so confused in fact, that i spoiled the whole plot twist for myself, because i searched up how the hell the plot i thought this movie was following was supposed to make any sense. i was then told by google that i was actually a stupid piece of shit and that i fell for the intentional red herring, or something along those lines. all of this happened before the actually plot twist was revealed…

    Feels like a David Fincher detective thriller trying to solve a murder mystery. The twist was pretty predictable, and I already saw it coming from a mile away, but of course Angelina Jolie and Ethan Hawke gave great performances.

    Taking Lives had a killer concept and then absolutely fumbled the corpse. 🔪😭 Ethan Hawke? Great psycho. Jolie? Powerful, magnetic, untouchable… until she discovers the truth and suddenly turns into a Victorian widow with low blood sugar. Zero chemistry between them, so the sex scene felt less “dangerous attraction” and more “contractually obligated nudity.” 💀 The twists were so predictable I basically solved the case before the FBI did. Still, the final trap was satisfying. Not memorable. Not rewatchable. Unless, apparently, you’re conducting very specific Angelina Jolie research. 👀

    Vraiment pas fou, un thiller américain typique avec du male gaze. Une enquête policière où on peut preshot 3/4 des plots twist. L’histoire est bof, le scénario est nul, J’ai appris que Angelina Jolie ne savait pas jouer. Mention spécial pour le vertigo effect très sympa mais le reste c’est du cliché sur du cliché c’est ridicule, frr à quel moment tu manges devant des photos de cadavres parce que l’enquête te tiens à cœur

    A solid thriller premise that Felt a bit like a patchwork thriller though, pulling pieces from other notable films in the genre and thus making it somewhat predicable. A strong cold opening that then leads us into our investigation. Jolie is established as almost like a Clarice Starling figure, holding her own amount men which is always nice to see despite never being fully executed in as thoughtful a way. Not really sure I like Hawk’s performance here which alway…

    a good ensemble of talent; and the supporting characters all offer performances for a film that doesn’t deserve it. the casting of a young dano seems to be the perfect precursor for his inevitable flourishing as an unassuming villain. the misdirection works to an extent, however, such deft legerdemain struggled to sustain itself which showed in the final sequences of the film: the closer we get to the denouement, the messier it got. the conclusion ought to have been darker; the villain’s undoing was not consistent with such a pragmatic, cautious, and seasoned pro that hawke depicted throughout.

    It’s decent enough,keeps you engaged throughout,nothing really special though to hit the higher level of thrillers. I think my biggest issue is Ethan hawk in this film,the fact jolies character,the way she is,ends up with him,just doesn’t ‘flow’ well for me,just isn’t believable.and also,I do love a good pyscho character,and the character and what he’s done is terrifying,he just doesn’t pull it off in my opinion. But overall,it’s an easy watch,would never watch it again tho

    Sincèrement, je ne sais pas si j’étais fatiguée ou quoi car je n’ai absolument rien compris à ce film. Je n’ai vraiment pas accroché, j’ai trouvé l’histoire trop “chaotique”. Même si de bons acteurs y jouent telles que Angelina Jolie et Ethan Hawke, le film n’était pas terrible.

    Was set up for an interesting character study on a Paul Dano based character which I never got. Instead, red herrings too on the nose or too tenuous. Some weird decisions and confusing motives drag this film to an end.
