100 The most persuasive argument for cocaine usage in the whole entire history of anything and everything. Moves like water, vibrates on its own level of existence.

A polite man is driven to murder. He becomes a prophet and screams manifestos on love, war, and the increasingly alarming impact of technology and progress. Driven to insanity by his own insights into the human condition, he travels to a river in an attempt to drown himself but instead is baptized and absolved of sin. He dies, crosseyed yet painless. This is the definitive fairytale of my generation, and the moral is “watch out, you might get what you’re after”. Jesus lives, and he’s wearing a giant suit.

sweat my ass off dancing from “slippery people” on in a big suit at a vidiots screening with the band (inc. ednah holt, lynn mabry, and steve scales) in attendance. lynn and ednah joined us and did laps around the audience. tina weymouth gave me a near empty glass of champagne and said my suit was nice. i took two gummies and drank a grapefruit radler. vidiots cofounder saw me hitting the choreo and asked “how many times have you seen this movie” and i just responded “haha.” writing this entry in case i ever trip and fall into the eternal sunshine machine and forget about it

A manifesto on how you and your friends (with the help of some instruments, a couple of lights, a few cameras and platforms, a cartoonishly oversized suit and a standard house lamp) can see the face of god. Opens with an anxious man alone in what looks like an abandoned factory hitting play on a tape and within the span of a few songs you are watching a transcendent celebration of pure music and art and collaboration where everyone and everything in its vicinity is possessed by the experimental punk and funk and art rock sounds for 80 minutes including the camera. Byrne’s body movements and vocal performance, Demme’s intense close-ups and stylized lighting, the raw, off-kilter sounds and organic moments between the band members. I can’t believe this was captured on film, and that I hadn’t seen it yet. I will be watching this a million more times.

The most joyous film ever made. The little moments where David Byrne is trying to perform stone-faced but can’t help but smile could power me for weeks. Nothing makes me feel so exuberant, happy, nostalgic, and full of love as “This Must Be The Place.” It breaks my heart that Talking Heads aren’t friends anymore because more than anything, this movie feels like it works as an ode to/view on their friendship and how they work so perfectly together as performers. I can’t wait to be in a room with my friends again. Hugging them and crying and smiling across the room as we wriggle our stupid, sweaty little limbs around to this movie. Falling in love with all of…

Rewatched at the Hyland. I don’t know how they did it but they captured real magic on that stage. Grabs you from the start and doesn’t let you go for almost 2 hours straight. I was in a trance from slippery people to making flippy floppy. Nothing will ever top this performance ever

Stop Making Sense when you’re happy. Stop Making Sense when you’re sad. It always feel like the right time to watch. Every time I watch I’m impressed by the set dec, the track list, and the lighting; but this time watching I really loved focusing on how everyone is moving. It feels so naturalistic and freeing to just let your body move how it wants to when it hears music playing. It’s all nonsense and it all makes sense

Went to a watch party for this one (hosted by Microplx) where we all were part of a live group chat and had the best time. The energy is electric and I cannot wait to watch again

In this life you get to choose your flavor of autism. David Lynch or David Byrne. Sometimes I wonder if I wish I should’ve chosen Byrne. Just call me Judy the way I be in the bedroom inventing situations.

i love david byrne and talking heads but it was outside and people were singing and dancing and clapping and i hated them all, it was a cinema experience doing all that is wrong and i had to block my ears at one point because i couldn’t handle people singing along to it, also i spent the rest of the time contemplating everything ever and highkey nearly cried because i was thinking too much. I really like talking heads and…

🎶 Home is where I want to be, but I guess I’m already there / I come home, she lifted up her wings / I guess that this must be the place 🎶 Just an indelible joy. Courses with so much primally infectious energy. That little two-step move Tina Weymouth keeps hitting is groove personified.

Holy fuck — what a revelation to watch this on 35mm. As soon as David Byrne busts out the boombox with a recording of a Roland TR-808 drum machine for “Psycho Killer”, it immediately tells you this won’t be a regular concert. Really great mix of songs; the little intermission where Tom Tom Club gets to perform remains my favorite moment. A meticulously crafted explosion of art and funk.

Great concert. I don’t know how to rate live concerts, so I’m just going to leave it as liked for now. The emotions I got from it were precious.

Good. That’s about the long and short of it for this one, it’s really quite good. I think the only thing stopping me from rating this any higher is simply my propensity for disliking anything non-fiction. But I like Talking Heads and I like Jonathan Demme so it wasn’t that hard to get into. The music’s great, unsurprisingly. David Byrne is a phenomenal front man and commands the screen with a wildly idiosyncratic presence (the things he manages to do…
