There are great ideas in this, and I generally like what Lucas was going for, but the execution of said ideas is where this somewhat fails for me. TPM is a mid movie. I have some childhood nostalgia for this movie but at the end of the day it’s pretty flawed TPM is quite boring except for the pod-racing scenes and the Darth Maul duels. George Lucas’ dialogue writing wasn’t great, Jar Jar Binks was in too many scenes, and the Midichlorian stuff made no sense. The only reason why I rewatch TPM is for the nostalgia. This movie is quite a disappointment but it’s still 2.5 stars

I still refuse to believe the studio thought this was the best product they could put out there. Assumo que não tinha visto esse filme antes por puro preconceito com as prequels. Nos últimos dias, no entanto, deu vontade de maratonar a franquia, e decidi começar com elas. Eu me arrependo de não ter visto antes, pois George Lucas mostra que mesmo não dirigindo filmes por mais de 20 anos (Star Wars IV é de 1977), ele ainda é um ótimo diretor. Pode se argumentar que os efeitos de computação gráfica não envelheceram bem, como o Yoda que foi trocado de boneco pra cgi duvidoso, mas isso é detalhe. Não atrapalhou minha experiência. With twenty-seven years worth of perspective this official opening chapter to the entire saga is better than some of us initially thought back in 1999. The entire handmaiden / princess decoy subplot would actually surprise any viewers who did not know who Natalie Portman was and of course the foreshadowing is catnip for us fanboys. George Lucas always had characters who were there for comedic effect and that is how I can forgive what Jar Jar Binks represents…

Oh young Anakin, what will you become This part was good, it’s overhated imo, it establishes the world nicely, introduces Obi-Wan and the Jedi, explores the relationship between Jedi’s and Qui-gon’s character was great. Also Padme is very pretty. And I know I’m not following the release order but I decided on this order since I saw the orginal 2 movies and knew about what was to become and now I get to know all the backstory before witnessing the epic conclusion.

What can I say? The CGI looks terrible, and the movie has its flaws, but I still love it. I love the world-building from George Lucas and the design of everything, including the ships, Naboo, Queen Amidala, and, of course, Darth Maul. This movie also introduced the B1 battle droids, and I love everything about them. The droidekas are also badass, but nothing beats the B1. Roger Roger 🫡 The Duel of the Fates, in the end, is also worth watching every time. It’s just so well-choreographed, and I love the theme. It’s probably the best in the franchise, along with the Imperial March.🙏🏻

A lot of elements seem like retreads of the original, but overdone. Lightsaber duels are back, but now they’re over-the-top choreographies instead of more traditional-looking fencing.
