⋆˙.ᐟ✮ “hey cos! do something! call me a cab!” “ok, you’re a cab.” 𓂃˖₊⊹ singin’ in the rain always makes me feel good. the stunning technicolor visuals, the incredible musical numbers, the uplifting comedy, the hollywood setting, and the beautiful love story are all so perfectly captured. by far my favorite moment from this movie is the scene where gene kelly and cyd charisse dance together, where her angelic white dress trails behind in the calm wind as he inches closer…

the movie musical ever!!! i can’t even string a sentence together, i’m just going to list my favourite things – awfullllll terrible jokes “alright, you’re a cab!” – absolutely jaw dropping costumes – tap dancing! – “i don’t- joe bring me a tarantula!” – whatever the fuck gene kelly spiked donald o’connor’s weetbix with. that man was going nuts! – enemies to lovers, with character growth à la pride and prejudice style – enemies to lovers couple plus their comic relief third

Summer Binge 2026 #88 Singing in the Rain is an outstanding film, the visuals were great, the whole film had a dreamlike aesthetic that captures old Hollywood. The whole film is uplifting, the story is entertaining, the music and dance routines are incredible and Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds and Jean Hagen deliver phenomenal performances.

I love how every era has nostalgia for 3 decades prior. The 50s nostalgia for the 20s, the 80s nostalgia for the 50s, the 2010s nostalgia for the 80s etc. I’m excited to see what 2020s nostalgia looks like in the 2050s.

“‘You mean l’m not an actor? Pantomime on the screen isn’t acting?’” “‘Of course not. Acting means great parts, wonderful lines, words. Shakespeare! lbsen!’” This movie was crazy!! Back then you had to be able to sing, dance, and act or you wouldn’t be in a movie. It’s crazy how in this movie people would just burst into a 5 minute long tap dance, it must have been so difficult! The “Singin’ in the Rain” song was so nice and…

Truly if you truly hate musicals like, I can always hear and respect someone’s opinions on them especially with modern musicals but if you deeply hate every single one of them, you lowkey might just be miserable because this was nothing but fun and whimsical. The film’s magic comes from the breathtaking staging and an overwhelming sense of life imo, every single musical number is kinetic energy and vibrates with color especially with “Good Morning” which made me wanna leap…

I’ve been listening the song from it for years. This month I decided to watch it because of the song and a lot of famous actor’s recommendations. It is a wonderful movie that is perfect for the ending summer and beginning of autumn. It was fascinating to see how people coped with such problems that they had then. I hadn’t thought about it until I watched this movie. Baring (in my opinion) not well shown love story, this movie is incredible with cozy atmosphere and positive energy!

He only sang in the rain for 2 minutes… 84/100 All jokes aside, I appreciated the title’s double meaning: they chose to sing while the rain poured down, and doom and gloom set in as the industry changed, and it looked like they couldn’t keep up. This film was phenomenal at masking itself as a comedy/romance/musical all while being a drama about the trouble many studios and actors faced as sound became a demand in cinema. Jean Hagen gives an…

It’s clear to see why this is a classic. Sort of meta in its approach that a musical about the making of movies, where the leads excel in musical performances playing characters who have a real passion for musicals while the plot takes a backseat in the movies the characters are in, just like the movie we are watching, all to make room for the show stealing numbers and committed showmanship. Bravo. Gorgeous production and a true joy to watch.

it doesn’t get much better than this. wow. i love what the big three do in this movie, but gene kelly man wow this guy’s awesome. the whole broadway melody sequence is one of the most impressive things i’ve seen in a movie. so grand and sweeping, some of the biggest dance numbers ever, all for a seen that honestly didn’t need to be in the movie lol. it’s so obvious this was made by someone who loves theater. also there are few characters i love as much as i love cosmo
-
S
Maybe one of the most atheistically pleasing movies ever. Dance sequences were also just so beautiful. Also one of the best shot movies i’ve seen from the 50s era. I feel so jolly after watching this. You could say it makes me want to sing in the rain 😏. Chef’s kiss!

(It’s very satisfying when a movie that’s known as one of the greats is actually good to me🎉) I went in completely blind besides knowing the title song and that Debbie Reynolds was in it. And wow it was not at all what I expected. I didn’t know it was funny (and even having a dark sense of humor in moments LOL it makes me get where 90s/2000s comedies get their weird side characters and sight gags from) . And…

If I attempted to do anything physical performed in this movie my spine would promptly combust. Donald O’Connor brings an electric performance, he’s incredibly charming, and moves in a way I’m not sure anyone ever has before and since. Or maybe I just need to watch more ’50s musicals. Everyone’s outfits look so damn good it almost started to piss me off.
-
P
-
M
This movie was WAY ahead of its time. They did every possible thing in this movie. The dancing, choreography, singing, set design, cinematography, story, 1920’s Hollywood aesthetic. Everything. I wasn’t expecting to like it this much, but my theater kid biases just took over during this. During really complicated dancing scenes like when Cosmo sings Make ‘Em Laugh, I was so amazed how they managed to pull that off. Plus, the visuals are just plain beautiful to watch to. I recommend this movie to anyone who is interested in watching more musicals or expanding their classic musical knowledge.
3 -
B
You can tell that La La Land took a lot of Inspiration from this movie. But for me thag doesn’t make this film better. And honestly I think I genuinely just don’t like older movies, they’re ok but there’s a point it can’t get to like it can only be so good. But uhh yeah la la land is still the only musical in my heart
-
N
If Letterboxd ever decide to make it five favorites, Singin’ in the Rain will be straight in there for me. Honestly it could go in the top four. It’s in my heart, and that’s what matters. I think Gene Kelly has the most contagious smile on the planet. Can’t wait for the next joyful rewatch!

It’s beautiful in retrospective, I can’t even imagine what it must’ve been like to go to the theatre and watch this in current time. Nowaydays we glamorize old Hollywood so much, I wonder if they were as enchanted with it as we are now. I’ve had one motto which I’ve always lived by: Dignity. Always, dignity. Eye popping technicolor vibrance featured with some of the most catchy musical numbers. Singin’ in the Rain is a colossal achievement both in its large scale and how much joy it’s able to infect on its audience. The perfectly synchronised mixture of vaudeville, ballet, tap or jazz dancing and the fully committed trio of Kelly-O’Connor-Reynolds is a timeless phenomenon in every single musical acts, a piece of film…

I think the most surprising thing about this film to me is that it’s still culturally relevant. People still talk about this as a classic film everyone needs to see. And it’s not a bad film. It’s mostly enjoyable. But it does feel of the 50s. Outside of Singin’ in the Rain, I’d guess most people aren’t familiar with these songs as they would have been in the 50s. And the film is built around the musical numbers more than the…
