One of the most essential, profoundly moving & powerfully affecting films to ever grace the silver screen, Schindler’s List is the crowning achievement in the remarkable film career of Steven Spielberg and finds the master storyteller at the pinnacle of his artistry. Crafted with painstaking care & dedication, it is rightfully acknowledged as one of the most honoured & significant films of all time. Set during World War II, the story follows Oskar Schindler, a war profiteer & Nazi party member who arrives in Poland after its invasion by Germany in 1939 to make easy money but gradually undergoes a transformation after witnessing the barbaric acts committed by the Nazis against Jews and then begins to do all in his power to save as…

This is not just a movie, rather a lesson. A lesson that shows us how terrible we can be. How terrible we can treat our fellow man. How terrible a person can be when power is involved. A lesson that every school should teach young and old.

A red coat. That’s all it is. It’s used to keep warm, a shelter against the blistering cold. Gusts of wind tatter and billow, threatening the gentle glow that results from the little red coat. In all the horror, the absolute Hell, the devastation, the inhumanity; a simple color evokes so much more than the thought of gentle compliments and a tender smile. Steven Spielberg’s Schindler’s List is simply one of the greatest films committed to celluloid. Bar none. No exaggeration. It is as essential, historical, vibrant, emotional, magnificent, harrowing, and impeccably orchestrated as anything that’s ever been released in the cinematic medium. And like the red coat of the little girl, the film will never fade, only growing in distinct majesty and singular clarity.

100 Schindler’s List is often hypocritical. It tugs at the heartstrings while stripping its formal mechanics of sentiment. It portrays the truth of history while often succumbing to cheap suspense tactics (the shower scene). It provides a snapshot of the industrialized functions of the holocaust while rarely moving beyond the story at hand, which would be fine if it didn’t sway into broader digressions. Spielberg’s pride in making it, and deciding *this* story is the one to tell has always ruffled feathers, but it is still an honorable act of remembrance. One that is so unbearably moving that its role as a reminder, an evocation, and a depiction seemingly blend together. To create an accessible hollywood depiction of the holocaust in all its inhumanity and yet not push for an overview of its history is powerful. The list is the life of these faces, these people, and of this masterpiece. Spielberg will forever be one of the greatest filmmakers.

This is one of the greatest films of all time. The historical accuracy and raw impact of this story are immersive, the characters feel as believable as you or I. Setting aside for a moment how impactful holocaust films can feel, this film orchestrates the story it was seeking to tell brilliantly, the story design and direction is immaculate. The powerful emotional use of color perfectly lands in the black and white film, the girl in the red dress and…

A film that hollows your heart entirely, as you reflect on the innumerable cost of hatred, and the unspeakable difference of compassion. If it weren’t for candles in the dark like Oskar Schindler, what hope would there be for humanity at all. Spielberg pays homage to him, and the millions murdered by the Nazi regime, with a depiction that painfully pans across man made horrors. Monochrome vignettes. Tender splashes of colour. Performances that encapsulate broken goodness, and malformed evil. A…

I don’t even know what to say about this one. This wasn’t a movie I enjoyed. It was a movie I just sat there and watched, and by the end I felt fucking empty. The way Spielberg shows all of this without trying to make it feel beautiful or entertaining is what hit me the most. The black and white, the silence, the brutality… everything feels so real. And Oskar Schindler’s change didn’t feel forced to me. Watching this selfish,…

One of the best WW2 movies, if it isn’t the best. I’ve never seen a movie that felt so real, you could imagine how cruel was the holocaust. Liam nesson and Ralph had an amazing performance, for me the character Oskar Schindler was the best, he was charismatic and he made the film better. The main theme was great John William is unique and Itzhak Perlman plays the violin like an angel, although I would like if they had more than one theme.

Some films are watched. This one is endured. Spielberg turns one of humanity’s darkest chapters into something painfully intimate, never reducing the Holocaust to spectacle. The black and white photography, Williams’ haunting score, Liam Neeson’s performance and that final breakdown of Schindler make the whole thing feel less like a historical film and more like a wound that cinema somehow managed to preserve. That little girl in the red coat still destroys me

Letterboxd should include 6 stars for movies like this . It covers the holocaust during world war 2 , and direction of Spielberg showing perspective of both Jews and those fucking murders Nazi was incredible. The Jew had hope and whenever they were moved they said that “ The worst is over” but it was not, to see that shatters you completely . The scene where a man was hiding underneath the bed and nazis shoot him or when little…

The movie put me off for a long time because it’s in black and white and just incredibly long. But eventually, I had some free time and watched it with a friend on a random day during the holidays. And the movie is genuinely great. The movie is just beautiful, with a gorgeous ending, while also being incredibly sad. I’d definitely watch it again, even though it’s a movie you really have to let yourself get into. I honestly don’t think you could have made this kind of movie much better.

Masterpiece doesn’t even feel like a big enough word for a film this visceral. The image of the little girl in the red coat cutting through a sea of black and white altered my brain chemistry, making the realization of her outcome an intolerable level of grief to process. OH and the part where Oskar breaks down sobbing, wishing he’d saved more while the survivors hugged him, I don’t think I’ve ever cried more in my life. Showing the real-life survivors visiting his grave at the end brought the entire experience to a close that left me sobbing. Absolutely GUTWRENCHING.

“…war brings out the worst in people. Never the good, always the bad. Always the bad.” of all the movies i have ever watched, this is one of the best. “Stern, if this factory ever produces a shell that can actually be fired, I’ll be very unhappy—” a big salute to Mr. Schindler 🫡 “Whoever saves one life, saves the world entire.” then, how about 1200 lives? so, in a situation that brings out the worst in us, people, i know that we still have choice. we, people, can still choose to be good.

Despite the length, this was an engaging story for most of its runtime. Schindler is characterized well in many early scenes, and it’s satisfying to see his positive development through the story, rather than presenting him as a flat altruistic man at the beginning. Amon is also characterized well, it’s very easy to dislike his character. The scene where he initially gave forgiveness only to change his mind made him particularly despicable. Helen is also a great addition to…

There are simply not many words that I can or really anybody can say about this film other than that Steven Spielberg is one of the greatest directors of all time and this well deservedly won him his best director Oscar. Acting that is some of the best you will ever see on screen, great score, cinematography and great storytelling at its finest. A movie that will leave you emotionally drained and leave you just sitting there with a visceral reaction to some of the scenes. How Spielberg released this back to back with Jurassic park is simply amazing.

Well, this was certainly not the cheerful movie night I had in mind. The film is about a man named Oskar Schindler, who starts out as a businessman trying to make money during the war and somehow ends up saving Jewish people from the Nazis. Character development: 10/10. Timing: absolutely terrible. The movie is incredibly sad, but also powerful. I especially liked how it showed that even in the middle of something horrible, individual people could still choose to do…

I’ve heard some people say that making a film, a piece of entertainment, about the Holocaust, is not a good thing. Maybe. One could say that a crime that ghastly shouldn’t be something you go to a theater and pay $12 to see, maybe with popcorn and a soda. It’s a legitimate point, I think. But also, let’s face it, films have emotional power, make things *real* in a way that books or documentaries might struggle to do. Most people…

schindler’s list is filmmaking stripped down to its most devastating form. spielberg uses black and white not simply as an aesthetic choice, but to create the feeling of watching history through a photograph that somehow came alive. the camera observes rather than sensationalises, allowing silence, faces and small gestures to carry the weight. liam neeson gives schindler an incredible transformation, while ben kingsley brings a quiet humanity to stern and ralph fiennes is terrifying precisely because his violence feels disturbingly…

I hope my history teacher knows how life changing this movie was. Everything you see out there is true what a masterpiece, the girl in the red jacket is a once in a lifetime scene

Someone who is so full of child-like wonder can be the one most adept at creating such a dismal and nearly hopeless tapestry of human disparagement. I heard that Spielberg was so depressed that he called on Robin Williams to cheer him, someone who is unironically also cut from the same mold of inner turmoil.
