up to you whether or not the White People Save Africa plot is cancelled out by McConaughey/Zahn teamup (it is though). otherwise not spectacular or anything but as sturdy as any mid-tier Bond, which isn’t as easy as it sounds.

Feels like an adventure movie from a million years ago… starting off as a search for a mysterious lost confederate ship filled with gold somewhere in Africa before turning into a Plot involving the WHO and stopping a crazy Bond Villain from contaminating the oceans with toxic sludge waste. Theres even a Bond villain’s evil lair in the desert complete with solar panels and jaws like heavy character as well as Thunderball-esque bond music horns lol. Reminds me of the action adventure movies we would get before the oversaturation of big comic book blockbusters happened—This doofy shit is way more my speed than that stuff and I would have watched every sequel to this if they existed. Plus Steve Zahn and Rainn Wilson so like wtf is this Indiana Jones/James Bond/live action Uncharted-esque action adventure movie? Dumb, but fun.

Sahara is a stupid adventure movie composed almost entirely of tropes and ridiculous plot coincidences. Like most treasure hunting movies, it’s pretty orientalist, and also sexist and aggressively pro-American. It’s also a ton of fun. The action set pieces, while absurd, are well-crafted and nice to look at. The musical score, somehow both generic and notably above-average, elevates the entire movie by a wide margin. The main characters (played by an exceptional trio — Matthew McConaughey, Penelope Cruz, and Steve Zahn) are all inexplicably experts at everything, and never make any mistakes, but their chemistry is undeniable and very fun to watch. Definitely one of the better non-Indiana Jones treasure hunts.

I’ve watched this movie a few times in my life but this is the first time its clicked. I could watch a bunch more of these movies with McConaughey and Zahn globetrotting on their next adventure as a buddy duo.

I’ve seen this before and this time only watched the end of it, but they don’t make movies like this now. This is an actual adventure movie, and the last time we saw that was that Sandy B movie? Steve Zahn is throwing his back out carrying this movie and its laughs. William H Macy is acting like he’d rather be anywhere but onscreen. Mcconaughey and Cruz have zilch chemistry (I don’t think she’s well suited for dumb action romps).…

L’histoire est classique, les cascades nombreuses, la quête, les courses poursuites, les gentils, les méchants, rien qui ne sorte de l’ordinaire. Vite vu, vite oublié

Very fun. If uncharted vibed and Bond villain and set pieces met you’d get this fun ride. Love this trio and their quirks. Could’ve leaned into the fun or non seriousness a bit more. But a good fun watch.

Phone was dead at Critchfield Family Meat Market in Lexington, KY. Of course Sahara was on the TV. No other score would be acceptable for one of our childhood favorites. Thousandth time watching – this time alongside construction workers on their lunch over Kentucky fried chicken, biscuits, green beans and mac n cheese.

Fun, turn your brain off movie. Cool action scenes and funny bits, the romance doesn’t feel earned and the plot is stretched past what logic allows, but that’s not what you watch this for. It’s to see shirtless Matthew McConaughey run away from explosions and Steve Zahn drop one-liners.

Takes me back to the old Indiana Jones movie., itsThis movie deserves a place on the Universal Pictures roster alongside top-tier action-adventure franchises. It’s a thrilling, popcorn-style spectacle that proves the classic treasure-hunting genre is still alive and kicking. A must-watch for anyone who grew up loving whip-smart heroes and perilous quests!

A Soulless Indiana Jones/Uncharted fun adventure…….very forgettable and totally has the vibe of a messy production. Barely passes as a good time waster popcorny action/adventure flick.

A meh experience of an action comedy. Very basic, very paint-by-numbers. McConaughey is fine in it and Rainn Wilson is always a joy to watch. Lennie James is incredible as the warlord villain. Otherwise? It’s fine to play in the background if you’re doing something more important.

I actually really like this film. It is a fun action adventure film with a fun cast. Matthew McConaughey, Penelope Cruz and Steve Zahn are good here, with a fun supporting performance by William H Macey.
