Totally forgot this movie existed. I saw it in the theatre back when it came out and never thought of it again until I stumbled upon it on Netflix this time around. Not a bad movie by any means but just very average and run-of-the-mill. There are some thrills to be had here and Ryan Reynolds plays pretty well off of Denzel, who is so effortlessly charismatic, clearly commands the screen, and is acting circles around everybody else. Safe House will definitely hit the spot if you’re looking for a little excitement on a rainy sunday afternoon. Good cast, decent enough action, predictable twists and turns but very watchable nevertheless. It also has some pretty good-looking cinematography as well! Safe House is a safe choice. 🇿🇦🔐🏠👦🎾🧱🧔🏿💉🚹🔗😰🧺💧🪣🏟🕴⚔️🕴🔫👦🏿🪒

Starring: King Kong Ain’t Got Sh!t On Denzel Denzel’s stint as an action hero and man on the run continues, and this time he’s joined by Ryan Reynolds, who, for a change, tones down his usual quips and plays it straight. The end product is a film that is generic in some ways, predictable, and not quite as entertaining as it could have been. Daniel Espinosa, before his best picture in Life and the meme disaster that was Morbius, does a great work with the action. Scenes like the car chase where Reynolds was struggling to avoid being strangled stood out as high points, but overall the film was less exciting and more like visual cacophony. Again, the premise doesn’t…

Safe House — about a turncoat operative taking shelter in a Cape Town safe house while possessing intelligence hunted by mercenaries — is a political thriller with enough big-time gun fights, explosions, and actors to satisfy the blockbuster-oriented viewer. Denzel Washington (like Will Smith or Liam Neeson or Russell Crowe or Mel Gibson or Samuel Jackson) is one of those action stars who seems to have a very savvy agent who always finds scripts with a central character that perfectly typecasts his personality & career trajectory. (The other part of this equation, of course, is that each of these actors know how to embody disparate roles in a manner that showcases their unique charm and flair.) In the film, Denzel plays…

I might have [zoom in] been able to [pan out, veer towards left] forgive Denzel’s [shake camera] lacklustre performance [extreme close up] and see past [zoom out] the humongous plot holes [zoom in, zoom out, sharp right] if the camera work [nudge cameraman] hadn’t been so [pan left, pan right, zoom out] friggin’ annoying!!! [fade to black]

The cliched action thriller carries a thin script with familiar generic tropes, yet is made enjoyable and entertaining, thanks to the terrific duo of Denzel freakin Washington and Ryan Reynolds.

“I only kill professionals” cold bar. I see why they gave Ryan that Deadpool gig later on. Them boys after Frost were WICKED. Denzel earned every penny he received for this film.

Going to Cape Town 🇿🇦 tomorrow and had to give this a rewatch for preparation. 1. Cape Town as a setting is so cool. More movies need to be made there. Enough of the “every movie needs to be set in NYC”. 2. Denzel carries this movie. Every scene with him is so good and every scene with Ryan Reynolds is mid (queue black scientist holding perfectly mid vial meme). 3. Wish they played No Church in the Wild in the movie instead of the credits…

Still a rock solid action thriller. Easily the best of the Bourne clones, with Espinosa doing the best job understanding the style of action and delivering a few really strong fight sequences, a badass car chase and some great shootouts. Reynolds’ final fight in particular still whips ass. Denzel is the GOAT, his charisma and physicality is always so on point, and he plays off of Reynolds beautifully.

Paint by numbers action thriller with predictable double crosses, one dimensional characters, and star power. Not that it’s a bad thing, Safe House is plenty entertaining and has solid replay value. This is exactly the type of movie that you see playing on TNT as you’re channel surfing be and you’d stop to check it out, and end up watching to the end.

Spy thriller with a strange and vague conspiracy in the middle. Safe house follows a CIA agent that is the “housekeeper” of a safehouse in South Africa(?) as an extremely wanted traitor turns himself in after stumbling into a wasp’s nest with his latest endeavor. The film sort of is a classic spy story with a vague organization that is using government resources and leaks to frustrate the spy caught in the middle, which is the safe house guy. As…

Tobin Frost (Oscarr winner Denzel Washington), one of the CIA’s most dangerous traitors, resurfaces in South Africa after eluding capture for almost a decade. During his interrogation, the safe house he’s being held in is attacked by brutal mercenaries forcing rookie agent, Matt Weston (Ryan Reynolds) to take the infamous Frost on the run. As the masterful manipulator toys with his reluctant prot‚g‚, shaking the young operative’s morality and idealism, the unlikely allies must fight to stay alive long enough…

They’re going to isolate you Matt. They’re going to be real nice to you at first. They’re going to put their arm around you and tell you things like, “You did a decent job, son. We’ll take it from here.” That’s when you know you’re screwed. I saw this when it originally came out in the theater, and it didn’t make much of an impression. Revisiting all these years later, I enjoyed it much more. It’s an intense action thriller…

I like the part at the end when Ryan Reynolds says to Denzel “I never got your name” and then Denzel says “You can call me… The Equalizer.” And then a guitar wails and then it plays the signature Equalizer riff and then Ryan Reynolds says “This is the last movie where you’ll be able to watch me as an actor.”

The writing of the film honestly could have been executed a bit better. The choices that Weston makes throughout the movie never make any sense. It feels like he’s flailing the whole time and is constantly being outwitted. I also think it would’ve been more interesting if the audience understood Frost’s motive a bit sooner. Denzel and Ryan Reynolds didn’t seem to be great scene partners and I don’t think the director used Denzel to his full capability.

A high level rogue CIA agent Tobin Frost (Denzel) turns himself into a U.S. Embassy after a deal selling stolen intel goes bad. While being ‘debriefed’ at a CIA Safe House it is raided by Frost’s unsatisfied buyers and an inexperienced agent (Reynolds) is forced to flee with Frost in his custody. Denzel plays it cool as a disgruntled ex-employee/spy who knows the shadier side of the spy-game. Reynolds is strangely enough quite serious as a low level Safe House…

Cast is grand, storyline typical and nothing original at all, car chase is sick but I don’t know if I missed some important dialogue about why a safe house keeper can drive like that, also people kept miraculously recovering from suffering seemingly life ending injuries. 54/100 Safe House is a perfectly watchable action thriller that never quite rises above its familiar premise. It keeps the tension up, moves at a solid pace, and has enough twists to stay engaging, but it rarely does anything that makes it stand out from the many spy films that came before it. The biggest strength is the chemistry between the two leads. Denzel Washington brings a level of charisma and unpredictability that instantly makes every scene more interesting, while…

Un thriller d’action centré sur un jeune agent de la CIA chargé de surveiller un fugitif dangereux, dans une course-poursuite où les alliances et les vérités sont constamment remises en question. I have always been a fan of Denzel Washington so I was really eager to check this movie. On top of that, he seemed to be playing something else than his usual righteous lead character so I was definitely intrigued. Eventually, it turned out to be a decent action movie with some really good ideas which were, unfortunately, not always properly developed. First of all, even though the movie was called ‘Safe House’, the action took place only 15 minutes…
