As someone who’s old enough to have seen the likes of “Superbad” and “Youth in Revolt” when they first opened in theaters, it’s hard not to feel a little unstuck in time as I watch millennial teen icon Michael Cera make the gradual transition towards dad roles (no, the “Juno” loophole doesn’t help). I was completely unfazed by the fact that he became a father in real life, but there’s something kind of fourth-dimensional about watching an actor grow up on screen while their most famous characters stay the same age forever. It’s an uncannily vivid illustration of the vertigo we all experience as we get older — how can you be on the brink of 40 when you’re also…

I was having a mild panic attack through much of this movie (unrelated) which was so goddamn funny once I realized what it was about. I burst into tears of catharsis. But also, exhausted tears. If you liked Sideways and A Real Pain, (and like, maybe Swingers), you’ll like this. Just know it’s not as good as any of those. My haters will say I just love everything Kristen Stewart is in. And they’re not wrong.

“Lunch? At noon?” Fantastic. Really undersold by its poster, because it’s soooo fucking funny. I genuinely think every single joke worked for me. Huge kudos to Michael Angarano and Michael Cera. Love when the straight man in a comedy is not-so-secretly even more insane. Also, really sweet and so beautifully shot! I do think having Maya Erskine in your movie is like a cheat code, she is just so unbelievably charming and funny and cool.

8.7/10 A great movie that was overshadoed by A Real Pain, which just so happens to be very similar and they both released in the same year. GREAT humor which really hits every time. Lacks the final cohesion i felt from a real pain.

Ironically the movie reminded me of Sacramento. Nobody sought out to be there but you have a pretty good time while you’re there. But then after a while you’re like “oh yea I went to Sacramento”.

I had to see this movie as Michael Cera, Kristen Stewart and Michael Angarano were in it. I really liked its emotional depth. I can’t believe how fast time goes by; I remember seeing these actors in teen roles (Zathura, Superbad, Sky High, Adventureland …), and now they’re adults approaching their 40’s.

Such a good fucking comedy. I think a lot of today’s comedy films emphasize the dark aspects of what can and cannot be considered as humorous to the point that a good chunk of people have straight up forgotten what it’s like to feel good, to laugh at something without the guilt that dark comedy often relies on in a contemporary sense. This movie reminded me of how good that feels, to sit back and enjoy what I’m watching, shamelessly.…

Sacramento delivered a few laughs while telling a solid coming-of-age story for men. It also shows that growing up isn’t just something that’s relegated to someone’s teen years. Scavenger Hunt 137 Progress: 24/31 Prompt: A movie featuring a father as the protagonist.

I feel like Sideways, Real Pain, and this are all part of the same “two dudes go on a road trip and hang out while also being super depressed” trilogy And like the godfather, the third one sucked

Really enjoyed this from a purely filmmaking perspective. Loved how vibrant it was, the cinematography captured the beauty of California in a really striking way, and there were some great needle drops. I wish I could say the same about the script. It wasn’t bad, and I definitely wasn’t the target audience, but it felt like there was a lack of charge in the writing. Certainly didn’t help that the two leads were really annoying and unlikable. I understand that…

Kristen stewart is so good at this what the hell. Maya erksine’s character was the best one. I honestly expected it to be more funny but comedy movies are always a risk

These men were insufferable lol. I love seeing Sac rep in movies but this wasn’t it. Lol I do think these crusty awkward white guys were a good rep for these modern men we contend with. Dudes that really just fucking struggle with growing up and make it everyone else’s problem.

The A Real Pain similarities are definitely there and have been mentioned a ton in conversation around this movie, but this really just feels like a very lukewarm version of it. I found our two main guys to be really annoying, Michael Cera somewhat understandably, but still unreasonably callous and mean. I wanted to see more of Kristen Stewart if I’m being honest because she was the star of the show in her few scenes. I never connected with the…

can see where they tried to go with this but not sure it really got there, more importantly i’m sorry but you can’t make kristen stewart a side character bc i was so distracted waiting for her to be back whenever she wasn’t on screen that i probably missed half the movie

A tender, charming movie that goes down smooth. Watched this to keep up with K Stew, but she didn’t have a whole lot going on here—the real standout was Maya Erskine, happy to see more of her. No surprises, nothing blew me away, but one extremely funny quick joke that will stick with me, may have even been improv from Michael Cera: he makes a call to his old friend while pacing in a gas station parking lot, and while leaving a voicemail he says “got an anthill over here.” Stellar bit.

“lunch? at noon?” — michael cera as glenn i kept waiting for sacramento to announce itself as a movie about men learning to grow up. thankfully, it mostly avoids doing that. michael angarano is working with material that could easily become unbearable in the wrong hands: two thirtysomething men, one road trip, a baby on the way, unresolved grief, and several conversations about where their lives are headed. the sundance starter pack, basically. what saves it is how casually the film…

Wish I read the reviews beforehand and knew this was being compared to A Real Pain because I was not a huge fan of that one and similarly found this one trying. Did not like spending time with these two and found it baffling that Kristen Stewart’s character would have married, let alone agreed to have a baby with Michael Cera’s character! Did love seeing Maya Erskine though.

Finding out right after finishing that Michael Angarano used to be in a relationship with Kristen Stewart and is now married and has two kids with Maya Erskine has blown my mind and made that ending even sweeter, respectively. Definitely one of the best films that flew under the radar last year. I also forget at times that Michael Cera is a very fucking funny human being.

Maya Erskine vc continua perfeita!
