   This is the first film in the series to feel almost entirely artificial, with lots of unnatural landscapes peopled by CGI automatons alongside people acting like automatons. In retrospect, the Army of Millas (one of the top five coolest things in cinema this decade) is the pivot point of the entire series, the moment at which we go through the looking glass from a real world beset by technological-biological catastrophe to the overwriting of our now dead planet by ever-fungible technological-biological simulacra.

   the scene where the disgusting human man tries to peep on milla in the shower and then immediately gets his face ate by a mutant zombie when he gets caught is the most feminist moment in all of film herstory. may all peepers and rapers get bit and dragged into the sewers by the undead

   Captain Cold?🥶 What are you doing here?😨 This Franchise’s idea of a sequel is to do the exact same plot as the previous one with a new location🌏 and even wackier looking Zombie dogs🦷. They’re getting harder to differentiate but I’m still having fun with this dumb nonsense🤷‍♀️. I just like to watch a women kick ass🤜🏻. The tease at the end got me excited for the next one😜. What will Alice do when her 2 Girlfriends meet?💋

   Of the three Resident Evil films Paul WS directed, this is probably the least interesting – save for a scumbag movie producer, it’s virtually apolitical. Yet, there’s still an astounding formal cohesion & furthermore a rueful melancholy which to my eyes seem unmatched before or since. In many ways it’s the most similar film to the original – where that film was set almost entirely in one location, this one brings it up to two! This structural tightness however also allows WS to diverge/experiment formally – nothing in WS’s films prior (or movies in general?) has looked quite like this – action sequences become a complete sensorial overload – total digital cinema!     76/100 Oddly the most conventional Resident Evil film, relying on a simple story with a group of survivors affected by Alice’s presence. With W.S. Anderson, any sense of hope is torn away, and Afterlife begins with the process of rebuilding after a climatic sequence is shoved right at the beginning. The grounded realities of Extinction no longer apply, with Big Corporations disguising artificiality as safety to lure vulnerable remnants of the old world towards their endless bases of numerous corridors. Above all, it’s a tale of humans looking for something resembling their fading memories, utilizing a prison location as a space for refuge against the swarms of hungry zombies just itching to get back in. The opening credits, a montage of rain, umbrellas, and passerby, are as entrancing as cinema gets.

    Sexy Pose! Bullet Time Somersaults! CGI zombies! Bullet Time Dialogue! Sexy Pose! No Plot! Bullet Time Time! Sexy Pose!!! Like the zombies in it, this franchise refuses to die. I wonder why? Sexy Pose!!!!!!

    “thank you for making me human again” w.s. anderson is back – finally – and so is his acute control of space & movement. the opening sequence, an obvious nod to the wachowski sisters, is some of anderson’s finest work to date as he gets to use his stylish chaos to revel in a superpowered alice (and some clones) as she slices, kicks, shoots & decapitates the faceless men of umbrella corp; milla flying & ripping through goons like bullets, leaving a trail of chunks… and yet, there’s an undertone of sadness to it as he highlights the artifice of the sequence — something isn’t right. thanks to the events of Extinction alice has a purpose again, but what is that purpose without…
