I was starting to worry he had been locked away in cinema prison, and whoever threw away the key meant we wouldn’t see another film from him after his Predator movie. A mediocre heist action thriller from Shane Black that is entertaining in bits and pieces. His trademark witty banters, some well written dialogues and fun stylish actions keep the show rolling in an otherwise messy forgettable outing.

I could happily listen to Rosa Salazar’s history lessons for the rest of my life… Marky Mark is stupid. Also what just happened in the beginning?! I love it. ..I actually didn’t love this. But Black turns it into such a chaotic mess that its entertainment value never really drops, but at the same time, it feels strangely artificial in its own way. The dialogue comes off like it’s rolling off an assembly line, Wahlberg’s eyebrows are permanently twisted, so the emotional side is completely lost. And overall, there’s this weird sense of indifference radiating from it, which really drags it down, even though the action and twists, through their sheer implausibility, manage to be at least somewhat better. Sitting at this world premiere with an audience cheering and laughing as the actors shot and killed body after body in the most disassociated manner like they were playing a video game must be what it was like to watch in horror as people cheered while tigers ripped gladiators apart. It’s the morally bankrupt, soulless, blood thirsty imperialist spectacle that we deserve. This is the communal decay Coppola is depicting in Megalopolis. I felt so bad after this screening I literally had a panic attack and had to sit on some random stoop in the rain for about ten minutes before I could even walk again.

When you find out your goat washed. 💔 I wanted to like this so badly… love me some Richard Stark and even though I knew Shane Black was going to bend the ruthlessly efficient and brutal material into one of his silly crime capers (rather than say, another Point Blank or The Outfit), I had some hope that he could pull it off. Unfortunately, he never figures out the tonal balance between the two, Wahlberg is a genuinely terrible Parker, this script is one of the weakest and laziest he’s ever written (at times playing more like a diet Mission Impossible movie than a Stark adaptation, and the jokes are so bad!), and it looks like bland streaming CG dog shit. LaKeith Stanfield and Rosa Salazar innocent, they would’ve been awesome in one of the Tony Scott or Renny Harlin directed scripts he wrote like 30 years.

I can’t pinpoint why it doesn’t work. Sometimes it feels like it’s trying too hard. Other times it feels like it isn’t trying hard enough. I don’t think it’s a matter of Mark Wahlberg being miscast, but I don’t think the “Parker” series lends itself to Shane Black’s style of crime caper. Then he decided to switch things up and make a bafflingly bad movie with The Predator. Then, for seven years Shane waited, he bided his time until he was ready for his boldest move yet: what if he made a movie that was both incredibly boring and very expensive? as much as I dislike Marky Mark, he kinda rips in this movie. an extreme “dudes rock” performance if I’ve ever seen one. does a really good job of threading tension and humor and mark wahlbergs rugged everyman shtick is a huge part of it.

Too much cgi mess for the action but it’s genuinely funny. Never read the novels so I can’t speak for how the comedy blends with the source material’s violent sensibility. Best Marky Mark has been in years.

Tons of fun. Love a good Shane Black flick. Wahlberg was great. I like that Parker was really not a good person. I was worried they were gonna chicken out at the end but I’m glad they didn’t. This has a really fun cast. The heists were fun and the dialogue was snappy. I will definitely watch this one more often.

Painful to watch. Could be the worst movie I’ve ever seen. Hated every second I was alive during this viewing. Pitiful acting and cornballs left and right. Ai generated directing. If there was a way to do zero stars I would give this a zero. I’m angry just thinking about this movie.

Shane Black has written some brilliant screenplays. He’s also written some absolute stinkers. This is not a total disaster, but it’s not far off. It’s got a couple of wild action sequences that mildly entertain, but the script is a mess and it’s mostly a flat misfire. It’s all very dopey. Wahlberg is poor and miscast. Lakeith deserved better. Hope Black can find his mojo again.

Pretty good take on a heist movie, with some interesting twists that I’m sure would have been more riveting if I was sober. A random bystander in the first scene makes like the dumbest decision possible when he sees people robbing a bank, and decides to rob the robbers.
