“Her first baby… came out sideways. She didn’t scream or nothin” To be honest I never really connected with this growing up (Steve Martin’s family seemed like a bunch of losers so I didn’t get why he was so dead set on getting back to them) but, like, John Candy is one of a kind. Undeniable. They don’t let guys like that get famous anymore. Was about to say they don’t make ’em like that but I just flew into Chicago to see family and yeah they do. Sure they’re not as talented but strictly speaking we never stopped making em like that. I love the way this movie looks. Just completely brown. One of our brownest non-prestige horror movies.…

You know they’re really not on the train long enough for it to have such high billing in the title.

The Jerk and Uncle Buck as the oldest looking teenagers to ever star in a John Hughes coming-of-age-road-trip film. A taxi race with Kevin fuckin’ Bacon. The first time you see John Candy’s facial expressions. A bitchy flight attendant. A semi-boring sounding Ben Stein. Shower-curtain-rings are fuckin’ cool. A million bucks short of being a millionaire. Hypoallergenic pillows. Extreme-sinus-cleaning. Waking up next to Del. Those aren’t fuckin’ pillows! A broken train. A yabba dabba doo bus ride. The invisible automobile. The fuckin’ rental-car counter. You’re fucked! An autographed Daryl Strawberry earring. Being grabbed by your dick. Precious moments don’t come back. Almost hitting a deer. A car-honking contest. You’re going the wrong fuckin’ way! Two dollars and a Casio watch. A melted speedometer. Del knows a lot of fuckers. Realizing family is everything. Funny as fuck. Steve Martin is gold. John Candy is fuckin’ hilarious. Fuck, I miss him. RIP Mr. Candy. RIP Mr. Hughes.

Guys, I’m feeling all warm and fuzzy inside. I love a good freeze frame ending. Let it be known that turning into a screaming skeleton is always funny.

PTA film There are some movies that get Oscar’s, and then there are some that get referenced on family guy, in which said reference gets more popular than the original movie itself… Like seriously the family guy writers room really thought Del Griffith=Peter Griffin, We can make a joke out of this. “Haha movie references”. Anyways… One the all-time laugh-out-loud, piss-your-pants-laughing romps of the 1980s. I couldn’t help but exclaim “That just happened!” Or “They just did a thing” every…

two men, one journey, absolutely zero ability to get home normally 😭 planes? delayed. trains? cancelled. automobiles? probably on fire. steve martin spent the entire film trying not to kill john candy and honestly i felt his pain. holiday spirit achieved. sanity absolutely not.

That thing about John Hughes writing complete screenplays in one weekend makes a lot of sense now because most of the time this movie feels aimless and rambling, and not in a good way. It genuinely feels like the story is being made up as it goes. And for some reason the score is kind of awful and distracting? Really this movie is only carried by the genuinely creative and funny set pieces, and the performances by Martin and Candy.

I saw this many years ago on tv, I didn’t think much of it. The only things I disliked was the music and I didn’t think it was all that funny. I still have that opinion but it’s sweet and Martin and Candy have amazing chemistry together.

reviewing my favs tonight. the humor in this movie for some reason has stuck with my entire family for like 20 years. This movie was quoted at least once a day in my house growing up. “it’s the only Thanksgiving movie,” my mom always said, so we watched this every Thanksgiving, and we’d laugh at all the same parts. I love when the car explodes and they just start laughing (I’ve actually been in this situation before). Del’s blue windbreaker…

This is a great and very fun road trip buddy comedy with a lot of funny and heartfelt moments throughout. I have been interested in this film for a while as it is the go to film for people to watch during Thanksgiving and because its stars are actors that I haven’t really watched a whole lot of. John Candy and Steve Martin are people that are comedy legends, so watching a film with both of them as a lead…
