I’m honestly confused how to rate political action thriller Olympus Has Fallen. It’s top commendable aspect is Gerald Butler’s immense effort to be THE hardened action man. The desensitized and realistic storytelling with cutthroat visuals is a breath of fresh air from recent squeaky clean action films too. Oscar winners/nominees Angela Bassett, Morgan Freeman and Aaron Eckhart are also beneficial in the acting department. Even so, the first arc is unbelievably slow, the final battle is dismal and short, and the screenplay needs pruning. Overall, Olympus Has Fallen is good but nothing to rave about it. I have White House Down downloaded (legally, if I may add). Let’s see who made the better “attack the president on his home office” movie.

Down to its soul this is an ugly movie. Plays right into every gross aspect of American action films with a lovely streak of nationalism added into the mix. I also can’t emphasize enough how shitty this is on a visual level. Everything looks artificial. Not a single image here is believable. I can’t even call anything here a setpiece cause you either can’t see it from how terribly lit it is or you can’t follow the action because it’s cut to shit. This wants to be Die Hard in the White House so bad. Fuck off. Gerard Butler innocent.

While it is complete action slop with no real meaning, it still manages to be an entertaining and semi believable premise. The acting is solid which really helps sell the movies semi ridiculous ideas. The action is very solid and the R rating allows the movie the room it needs to be brutal in its action which really elevates it in a meaningful way. It’s mindless for sure don’t go in expecting much but for brainless action it’s quite good.

This film is barmy. Action is elite almost throughout the whole film in every scene. Still has that mystery vibe. I love a POTUS film/ terror attack on the WH type film so this is perfect for me. Gerald Butler or Jason Statham? Both of them scratch that itch of movies-for-guys-who-like-movies energy of dumb, bombastic, prejudice fueled action movies. This is a guilty pleasure and one that when it was made came after a drought of action movies because Bourne made everything grounded and gritty for the over a decade. I feel like this helped ensure the genre would stay alive and R rated action could still exist post the 00s realism and the growing superhero epidemic.

Sparatorie, esplosioni e Gerard Butler che sembra poter sopravvivere a qualsiasi cosa gli venga lanciata contro. Come film d’azione fa il suo e qualche scena intrattiene, ma è talmente esagerato e prevedibile che a un certo punto ho smesso di prenderlo sul serio. Actually, gua nonton film ini waktu masih SD, sama bokap. Kelas berapa juga udah lupa, pokoknya masih kecil banget wkwkwk. Dan somehow film ini jadi salah satu core memory gua. Serius, ini juga salah satu film yang bikin gua akhirnya nggak terlalu takut sama darah. Apalagi penggunaan senjata kaliber besar di sini, blood splashing everywhere. Brutal banget kalau dipikir-pikir gua nontonnya masih kecil. Tapi honestly, saya suka banget film ini. Premisnya literally “terjebak”, dan waktu kecil gua inget banget nontonnya tegang setengah mati. Sampai keringet dingin mikirin gimana caranya mereka bisa keluar dari situasi tersebut. Good old action movie. Masih punya tempat sendiri di memori gua.
