There is no reason for this to be set in Houston. Basically everything about the setting is wrong. Why would they shoehorn the location in just to not put any effort into being accurate or authentic. There’s more continuity errors than Obsession. There were some bright points. Jason Schwartzman was not one of them. Zac Oyama was though. Also, why is every text message the first text message each person has ever sent to each other?

Formulaic rich white family in a big house christmas movie that doesn’t do anything new with the formula, but is made watchable by an excellent cast. And it has a dance number with Havana Rose Liu and Dominic Sessa, so there is that. Also, the premise is unbelievable because how could you possibly forget Michelle Pfeiffer?

Honestly, this is really fun and the comedy is great. I quite like the story it has that heartwarming, cozy Christmas vibe. I do feel sorry for the mother, though, it really seems like she’s treated differently. Honestly, I completely understand why she left, I think it’s a form of self-care when life gets tough, we need something calming that we truly love and desire.

Oh. What. Crap. Arguably one of the worst holiday themed movies I’ve ever seen. What could have been a fun premise turns into a vehicle where even the forgotten mother becomes unlikable. In a movie like this, naturally even the bad characters have redeeming qualities about them at the end. It tries here but it ends up being superficial and fake, a way of going through the motions.
